Nikki Haley's son goes to Villanova. It's one of the whitest, wealthiest zip codes in the state, in the suburbs on the Main Line. The worst thing that could possibly happen is a bar fight at Kelly's.
My son goes to school here in Pennsylvania. And as a mom, I worry about his safety every single time he steps foot off campus.
I know
@DrOz
will have the backs of law enforcement and keep our kids safe—and that's why I'm asking you all to vote for him on Election Day.
Incredibly impressive how
@giselefetterman
has basically stepped into the role of candidate for the home stretch. John Fetterman’s greatest asset isn’t his shorts or his size it’s her.
just because you stopped paying attention to someone/never heard of them before doesn't mean they don't exist or aren't prominent. It just means that you dont know who they are
I'm not talking about the OZ/NRSC ghouls either. Normies, even Democrats. The notion that a US Senator is too prominent a job for someone with no cognitive impairment but a noticeable disability is an idea that belongs in the dustbin of history.
Worth noting that Pennsylvania elected Arlen Specter twice after major brain surgery, re-elected Tom Wolf after he beat cancer, elected Bob Casey Sr. after a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery…
Oftentimes a disabled person will be able to do a job just as well as anyone else but it might look a little different with some accommodations, which aren't "special treatment" but actually the bare minimum required by law.
Pennsylvania's Governorship will transfer from one Democrat to another today for the first time since 1959. This will be the first time in history that Pennsylvania has a Democratic governor for 3 consecutive terms.
Tom Wolf is the only governor in the re-election era to have a same-party successor elected. He’s also the only Governor of said era to see his LG win another office…any office. None of this would’ve been possible without his 8 years of steady leadership
Gov. Tom Wolf, 74, leaves office with positive approval ratings from leading in-state polls and his endorsed successor, AG Josh Shapiro, succeeding him — marks the first time since 1966 that a Pa. governor has been succeeded by a member of the same party.
Excited to announce that I’m going to be joining the Voter Protection team for
@PADems
and
@KamalaHarris
in WESTERN(!!!!) Pennsylvania for the rest of the campaign. This has been an area of interest for some time and I couldn’t be more excited. Pittsburgh-area friends hit me up!
John Fetterman and his radical friends AOC and Elizabeth Warren want to defund the police. As violent crime surges in our cities, the last thing we need is to defund our law enforcement.
Barack Obama is 61 today, which means we're due for our annual reminder that the 22nd amendment is crap (limit should be consecutive, not lifetime) that they wrote because they couldn't beat FDR.
It's primary night in Ohio, which means one of This Website's most time honored traditions- Nina Turner supporters coping with her loss by saying wildly anti-semitic shit.
Media MELT DOWN that Mastriano apparently once posed as a civil war historical figure for a photo. And? He has a Ph.D in HISTORY. The left wants to erase history.
@dougmastriano
wants us to learn from it. I invite
@Reuters
to go on a Gettysburg tour with Doug. You’ll learn a lot!
Pat Toomey is the worst Senator from Pennsylvania in my lifetime. Rick Santorum at least was attentive to local issues. Toomey didn't bring one red cent of federal money to PA in his entire congressional career. There's almost no evidence of his service in the entire Commonwealth
A lot of folks were wondering who the 5 senators were who voted against guaranteeing workers reasonable break time to pump breast milk. (It passed 92-5.) They were:
--John Cornyn (R-Tex.)
--Mike Lee (R-Utah)
--Pat Toomey (R-Penn.)
--Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.)
--Rand Paul (R-Ky.)
🚨 Durbin, No. 2 Senate Dem leader, breaks w/ Schumer on loosening Senate dress code:
“The senator in question from Pennsylvania is a personal friend but I think we need to have standards when it comes to what we’re wearing on the floor of the Senate.”
People who are obsessively hating on Giselle Fetterman, one of the most generous people I’ve ever met, should probably find a healthier coping mechanism, and this type of behavior is emblematic of why her husband is currently a US. Senator
Approximately zero chance this happens if Doug Jones is (somehow) re-elected. Elections have consequences. Congratulations, Alabama voters, on yet another good decision
Right now the 4 most important cities for Democrats are, in rough order, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Detroit and Las Vegas and you can probably through Pittsburgh and Milwaukee in and none of them touch an ocean
The narrative that the Dobbs decision is a hard earned victory for activists who nobly worked within the political process leaves out:
7 murders
17 attempted murders
153 assaults
41 bombings
173 arsons.
Pro-Lifers won their "victory" on the backs of violent ideological criminals
this is a Rohrschach on my timeline rn. Everyone is describing this moment in a way that just so happens to comport with their personal ideological preferences.
Harris to protesters repeatedly heckling at Michigan rally (about Gaza war):
“Everyone’s voice matters. But I am speaking now…
“You know what? If you want Donald Trump to win say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”
Donald Trump was the only President to preside over a net loss of jobs in 90 years it wasn't just "mean tweets" his presidency was an operational disaster
Ever notice how you never read about kids getting mauled to death by Golden Retrievers or German Shepherds or literally any other kind of dog other than a Pit bull?
Anyone remember how Jon Ossoff blew that senate race by eating at a vegan restaurant while former CEO David Purdue went to the all-American establishment known as Denny’s on the same day
Joe Biden was elected to the US Senate in 1972. Who are the best and worst Governors and Senators from your own state elected since. I'll go first
Pennsylvania
Best Senator: Arlen Specter
Worst Senator: Rick Santorum
Best Governor: Ed Rendell
Worst Governor: Tom Corbett
For all the attention PA gets you’d think that national media types would take time to learn basic political realities of the Commonwealth. Ex: The vast majority of voters in PA have no economic interest in fracking. There are less than 2,000 coal miners here. Etc
In 2000 it was Florida, Florida, Florida. In 2024 it's Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania.
Both sides are treating Pennsylvania like the Ohio or Floridas of old — states where the winner is also the likely winner of the White House.
Because you’re random losers and John Fetterman is a United States Senator. He got this job by winning an election over a polished, well dressed opponent by 270,000 votes. You’re the one who’s demonstrably wrong here
Tbh the idea that Shapiro is DOA in Michigan is equal parts anti-Semitic, islamophobic and a massive misread of Michigans electoral map.
If someone isn’t going to vote for Harris because of her VP’s Israel policy then none of the available options will be acceptable.
So looks like Doug Mastriano's running mate is going to be someone who actively campaigned against him. That's probably a more chaotic result from him than being paired with a fellow Capitol Riot attendee like Rick Saccone or Teddy Daniels
For all of journalism's flaws, the tendency to focus on literally anything but the implications of the policy differences between candidates is the worst, particularly on abortion. "Mark Uterus" wasn't a creation of the NRSC or even a columnist...
Yeah almost everyone I know who's like, 100% certain to vote for the Democratic nominee but would prefer it not be Biden are all people who would strongly prefer Biden to any alternative once you start naming them.
Bob Casey and John Fetterman should be ashamed pushing these garbage stories.
Unlike Casey and Fetterman,
@DaveMcCormickPA
proudly served our country in combat having been nominated to West Point by a Pennsylvania Senator. (1/3)
While it probably didn't impact the outcome of the primary, feels like a good time to recognize that the Shapiro campaign knew what they were doing in wanting Mastriano as an opponent. I'm glad they're focused on winning this race and not making contingencies if we don't.
Anyone arguing that picking Shapiro guarantees PA (or not picking him makes it unwinnable) doesn’t know ball. The argument is just that a 0.5%-2% bonus in PA in a Presidential year goes really damn far.
Everyone get ready for round 2 of "pile on the rich guy who only moved here to run for office"
Except even Dr. Oz never pissed away state teacher pensions.
Salena Zito (who I would ignore otherwise but was McCormick's de facto spox in 2022) tells Hugh Hewitt that Dave McCormick is likely going to run and run early.
In 2018/20, ‘electability’ was key for Dem voters. Today, that message is falling flat as Dems want ‘fighters’ not unifiers. Best example of this change in priorities is PA, where ‘electability’ poster-child Conor Lamb has flopped.
The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head.
It is un-American.
The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct. Yet, now he is
This (and PA, and WI) wasn't a fluke, it was a byproduct of an unusually high amount of 3rd party support. It could happen again under similar circumstances. But the GOP (and a lot of MSM types) really misread this, much to their own detriment.
A lot of people are going to project what they want onto Josh Shapiro- he's a moderate (only in aesthetics), he's just lucky to be running against a bad candidate etc. But he is where he is because he's been a tremendous public official and has excelled at every job he's had.
NGL I love that Democrats made a point to demonstrate that they aren’t taking these specials for granted even though the seats are so safe a dead man won by 60 points
My take on the Never-Never Trumpers is that Obama just broke their brains. At no point in, or since his tenure has a comparable figure emerged. They nominated 2 people to win persuadable against him which failed because anyone who could be persuaded to vote for Obama did.
This piece gets it backwards. Having a large, full time, well paid legislature is one of the best features of PA government. The problem is that many legislators have side jobs where the only value they bring is their official position
Scott Stringer and Eric Adams probably put 50 years of work combined into getting this endorsement and Yang just shows up and takes it. Like him or not he's got game
This is the first time that the Hasidic sects have rolled out a joint endorsement and so early in the race (usually its a week ahead of primary). The coalition represents at least 10,000 votes in the primary, if not more
As someone who likes Conor Lamb, but didn’t vote for him in the Senate primary, I’m far more puzzled by why has so many haters On Here. People like him because he won a dark red seat and then he retired Keith Rothfus
Ok legitimately can someone explain why Conor Lamb, a random backbencher who served two (2) terms, and has an ideology roughly in line with the mainstream of the democratic party, has so many stans on twitter
A bunch of national profiles as a rising star, an RNC prime time speech and key AG job and he gives it all up to get cooked statewide in Kentucky lmfao
I think its a pretty safe bet that youre not gonna see Phil Murphy play the game people want him to where he pretends he's learned a lesson and talks about scaling back his agenda etc. The way he sees it he's back and Sweeney's gone. He will act on the mandate he earned.
NEWS: Pennsylvania House Speaker Mark Rozzi (D., Berks) is stepping down as speaker effective immediatley, he told
@SpotlightPA
this morning. He plans to back Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton to replace him, making her the first woman to lead the 200+ year old chamber.
Donald Trump just talked at some length at his rally in Pennsylvania about a prosecutor he really hates and views as soft on crime. Philly DA Larry Krasner? No. Pennsylvania AG Josh Shapiro? No. The prosecutor discussed was Fulton County (GA) DA Fanni Willis.
@Albydelphia
Of course not. People should be judged on their merits independent of their disability status. That's not what the Oz campaign is arguing, they are saying he can't serve because he's disabled.
@Redistrict
would think the bigger error would be by any republican assuming that they'd get Democrat votes without a very concentrated effort to get them!
People really can’t handle the thought that the public might view a politician wildly differently than they do personally. Then they style themselves as people who understand politics.
Bill Clinton and Barack Obama either championed or allowed massive federal spending cuts. Changes to border policy, a project in Alaska and the DC crime code just don't impact very many voters lives and each action takes air out of a salient GOP attack.
I think it’s really obvious why Shapiro wasn’t picked and it has nothing to do with him being Jewish.
But the campaign against him was unnecessarily ugly and alienating to a lot of Jews who perceive that Shapiro was being held to a different standard because of his religion.
it's going to be unthinkably frustrating, especially given the DSCC's extremely cursed history with this particular seat, if Oz wins because national Democrats spent money on lost causes instead of Pennsylvania.
@KatiSipp
He's not saying NJ is a bad state or anything he's just emphasizing that its very weird and unusual to run for public office in a state you have almost no relationship with.
I for one wouldn’t write off Kamala Harris in large part because I remember the things they wrote about Biden from when he was VP all the way up to the second he was declared the winner in 2020
@McKay4Senate
There’s absolutely a tantalizing story here but Josh Shapiro doesn’t really have anything to do with it. Doug Mastriano tried making an issue of this. This case was screwed up long before Josh Shapiro got anywhere near it
Abortion is legal in Pennsylvania because we've had a pro-choice governor for 24 of the last 28 years. If Josh Shapiro wins it will remain unchanged. If Doug Mastriano wins he will pass a law that will ban all abortion and lead to aggressive DA's prosecuting miscarriages.
A lot of women from New York and L.A. on this site lamenting that their votes and donations didn't work, yet women from Philadelphia and Detroit are right now depending on votes and donations to protect their abortion rights in November. Do it for them
One minor problem with this: The Attorney General doesn’t determine the manner of death in Pennsylvania. Only a Coroner or Medical Examiner can do that.
In spite of testimony from the medical examiner that at least two of the stab wounds were likely made after she was dead, Shapiro's office still upheld the suicide determination and essentially sat on the case.
A not-super-political friend pointed this out to me, but beyond being distasteful its really creepy that people feel personally upset that a woman in a different state can legally get a medical procedure.
Same with Pennsylvania. The really good news is the GOP can't switch to a convention without a legislative fix requiring the signature of the Governor. Why would he do that?
