Repaying the favor to LA. First day of Harvey was one of the worst days of my life.
I sat and my office and cried the first time I got a call from someone with a Cajun accent I could barely understand talking about boats. I knew my city was saved then.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
My family can breathe after 6 days of absolute chaos.
My parents, stepsister and her husband were trapped along with their neighbors in Bat Cave
On a personal note, my 98 year old grandmother was picked up from Houma today by my parents.
Family tried to evacuate her, but couldn't because of traffic.
Not everybody has family who can pick them up, which is exactly one of the reason CSR exists.

Is it rude to ask multi-billion dollar media companies for a donation when they ask for rights to videos volunteers took?
Asking for a... friend. 🙂
We always just say yes; but, like, y'all know most volunteers pay their own way, supply their own boats/equipment, right?
No major notes in Port Charlotte area, in terms of life safety.
Plenty of debris, no cell, no power. 2 - 4 feet of water, but receding fast.
Biggest thing was some initially pissed off residents that we woke up to let them know their friends & family were worried 🙈.
#Ian
Photo of the agencies responding. Glad they were there, thankful they responded.
Yet, low income seniors, still remain in the street overheating.
More resources than you can shake a stick at in LA.
So why is it up to underfunded VOADs and volunteers to solve these problems?
CrowdSource Rescue was founded when Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017. Now, the group is coordinating volunteer search and rescue efforts in areas hit hard by Hurricane Helene.

Variety of agencies respond. Say residents will be taken to shelters in buses.
2 hours later... no buses. No responses.
Somebody get this fixed. Raise more hell.
Crews worked through the night, but we are definitely backlogged.
Hoping day break brings a little bit of hope, as roads start to clear and systems come back online.
We get it. Really do. Not our first rodeo - disasters are complicated.
But honestly? This is some bullshit. On a lot of different fronts.
Where are the buses? Why weren't they evacuated to begin with?
Photo of team making an attempt for Laplace, back in 2019 during TS Imelda.
They flooded their trucks to get Winnie TX and rescued 125.
Not saying they'll make it; winds weren't a factor in Imelda. But by God they'll try.
Cling fiercely to hope; so many people are trying❤️
There is a popular belief that people who don't evacuate are stubborn or stupid.
Research doesn't bear that out though; financial reasons are by far and away the
#1
reason for not evacuating.
Be helpful in your calls to evacuate. Yelling at people doesn't work.
