I-10 East remains closed at Mile Marker 72 due to an accident. Motorists are still being diverted onto LA 91 (Egan Highway) from I-10 West at Exit 76 (Estherwood Highway). Congestion has now reached 7 miles.

Temperatures today will range from the lower to mid 90s across the region. A weak cold front that moved through the area will at least keep heat index values at bay for today and remain below critical thresholds.

We'll keep an eye on the tropical wave way out in the east Atlantic which has a medium (40%) chance to develop, but any impacts to the U.S. are well beyond 7 days away.

Another day of oppressive heat is on tap for south Mississippi and southeast Louisiana today. A Heat Advisory will be in effect from 10 AM CDT to 7 PM CDT. Heat index values are expected to be as high as 112 degrees F this afternoon. No significant relief in sight.

Stay weather aware and prepared as we head into the peak of hurricane season.
We are quickly moving into the time of year when tropical cyclones begin to peak as far their numbers go. Even though there is no immediate concerns to the local area, it's always a good idea to go over your "to do" list of preparations.
