. He doesn’t need walks any more - just a garden, love and a lap. I miss him terribly, but this picture made me so happy ❤️
10am update: still no mention of Mother’s Day. I’ve unloaded the dishwasher, and made my own breakfast. Husband’s on the rowing machine, teens still in bed but communicating via texts. Just another day 🙄
“A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction.” Virginia Woolf.
After years of writing at the kitchen table, I finally have a room of my own 😀
#WritingRoom
After a year of lockdown, it’s the little things that drive you crazy. Every morning, the husband leaves his marmalade knife poised over the sink like a diving board. Why not in the dishwasher? Why?!?!? Anyone else coping with daily torture like this?!? 😡🔪😡
🔥 I have 4 signed copies of the limited edition advance proof of my new novel - to give away! 🔥 2 here, and 2 on insta. To win a copy for you AND for a friend like, retweet, follow and tag your lucky friend! Winners selected at random on 29/1. UK only. GOOD LUCK! 🤞❤️📚
It’s exactly 6 years since I was diagnosed with breast cancer, so I wanted to share this really helpful box of lemons! We all know about lumps, but they’re not the only sign of cancer. Mine was top row, second from the left 🍋 Please share, and check your boobs!

🚨GIVEAWAY!!!🚨 To celebrate the paperback launch of The People on Platform 5 I’m giving away 4 signed and dedicated copies! To win a copy for you and a friend, just like, follow, tag your friend and retweet! Winners chosen at random on Wednesday 29th March 5pm. UK only 😀
All good news at the breast cancer clinic, and I’m signed off for another year 🎉🎉🎉 For anyone who wants to reduce their risk of primary, or secondary, breast cancer, here’s the latest info from my genius consultant,
@KefahMokbel
When I was about 25 years old, someone asked me how I’d know when I’d achieved my biggest dream in life.
I said “When I can say ‘today I’m having lunch with my literary agent.’”
Well, today I’m having lunch with my literary agent.
It never gets old. See you soon
@hayleyemmasteed
FINALLY! After years of writing, editing, agonising and then publishing in the middle of a pandemic, AT LAST I get to see my actual book in an actual shop. Thank you,
@sainsburys
! Dream achieved 😀🎉📗
#TheAuthenticityProject
It’s ONE WEEK TO PUBLICATION, so I have 2 hardbacks up for grabs (for you and a friend) Just like, retweet and tag a friend who might be interested in ageing disgracefully 😉 UK only. Can enter multiple times! Winner picked at random after midnight on Monday 17th June ❤️
Not sure what I find the most upsetting about this. The sight of books being burned? The patronising reference to ‘wimmins fiction’? The thought of the marketing team, who’d worked so hard on the reprints? Or fellow authors who’d love their backlist to get such attention🔥📗😡
I’m looking for some advice, lovely people of Twitter. Is 50-something too old to have a tattoo? And, if not, what do you think of a little book, something like this 👇👇👇?

I was rather sad that my book published in a pandemic, and I’ve still not seen it in a shop, so please forgive me having a little celebration today, as it’s NUMBER 18 in the kindle chart and sporting a nifty orange bestseller flag 😀💃🏻🎉 (And it’s Takeaway Friday!)
If you’ve ever had cancer, or know someone who has, you might have an inkling as to how I’m feeling as I type this: FIVE YEARS ALL CLEAR 🎉(.)(.)🎉

I woke up aching all over. IS THIS IT?!? I asked myself. Then I realised it’s the result of three days of doing

When I first quit drinking, I counted every hour. Then, for at least a year, every single day. Which is why it’s so extraordinary that I missed my Soberversary on March 2nd. I forgot. Because alcohol just isn’t a thing in my life anymore. And that’s such a gift 💝

The kids call this ‘Mummy’s ego bookcase’ since I wrote everything on it. I call it the antidote to my chronic Imposter Syndrome. Every time I think ‘I’m not a proper author’ I stare at it for a while…. 😀📗📚
OMG! When you’re sweating away at your laptop at 5am every morning, dredging a story out of your imagination, this is the moment you dream of but suspect will never happen. A box of books, hot off the press from New York has just landed at my house, with MY NAME on the cover. 😃
I have terrible imposter syndrome. When my memoir was published, 4 years ago, I didn’t feel like a ‘proper writer.’ Nor when my first novel made the New York Times Bestseller list. But then, just now, this happened 😀😀😀
I’m writing some scenes set in the 1980s, and it’s reminded me that back then we didn’t BUY TVs or video recorders, we rented them 🤯 Who’s old enough to remember

A 🧵 1/3
This was me, trying to look cheerful in a pic taken for my children just before my breast cancer op in 2015. I’d quit drinking 7 months previously, but for the decade before then I’d been drinking around a bottle of wine a day. I had no idea….
Would you have the courage, and insensitivity, to tell an author to their face that you didn’t like their book? If not, PLEASE don’t tag them on your negative reviews! To us, it feels exactly the same. Thank you 🙏
It’s exactly four years since I quit drinking 🎂🎉😄My life has totally transformed since then! Here’s a before and after pic. If you’re still struggling, keep on going and wait for the magic to happen, because it will 🌈⭐️💫
Hey Twitter, it’s four years since I finished breast cancer treatment, and I have blood tests and a check up with my oncologist tomorrow. Can you please send good thoughts? Thank you! 🙏🏻😘🙏🏻

I have escaped to Scotland to write, because

coming 2024.
It’s my birthday 🥳🎂💃🏻I thought about throwing a wild party, or maybe a going on a romantic getaway, but settled on Nando’s and Netflix with the husband, kids and dogs 😀
Want to keep a marriage alive? Marry a man who loves you just as much with no make-up on a bad hair day. It’s my 20 year anniversary this year 😀🎉👩❤️👨

💥NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER💥so incredibly proud of

- publishing your first novel is never easy, let alone it in a pandemic. And then to hit the NYT list... well, Clare you're simply a star💫
I was moaning to a girlfriend about my lockdown weight gain.
“Just wear a kaftan and tell them you’re a writer,” she said.
This is now my new philosophy on life. 😊
You know, I always had this dream that one day I’d be able to say ‘I’m just off to have lunch with my agent and my publisher.’ Well, on Wednesday I’m doing exactly that. Never give up on your dreams 😀

sent me THIS CAKE! Isn’t it incredible? Join me this evening on Insta live at 7.30pm to celebrate! Virtual cake all round (and real cake for me 😉)
…because it isn’t.
If you’d like to find out more about my year of quitting drinking and dealing with breast cancer, it’s all in my memoir, The Sober Diaries ❤️
I just heard that Daunt have, understandably, cancelled my book launch. I know that there are bigger issues right now, but I’m still gutted. And 😭😭😭. It’s been a dream of mine for so long. If you’d like to pre-order a copy, I’d be so grateful
I’m really fed up with telling people I ‘don’t drink.’ Of COURSE I drink. If I didn’t, I’d be dead. I just choose not to drink alcohol. So, from now on I’m calling myself a ‘Clean Drinker.’ Words matter. Please retweet if you’re with me! 😀💪🏻💦

As an ex-alcohol addict, this makes me really uncomfortable. It feels like victim blaming. As if it excuses the police not trying harder to find

. Is it just me?
Why is it that whenever I announce to my dog that we’re going on a walk, he has to do a full circuit of the kitchen table first? Is it a warm up? A lap of victory? Playing hard to get? Anyone else’s dog do the same?
#dogsoftwitter
So, I’ve just emailed the manuscript of novel

to my publishers, and I don’t know whether to celebrate, or to hide under my duvet for the next week or two 🤷🏻♀️
This is my dad, now aged 85. It turns out that his ‘suspected sarcoma’ is actually a benign tumour. I feel like we’ve been unexpectedly gifted some extra years 🎉🎉🎉
I just found out that this little book has sold over 115,000 copies. Thank you so much to everyone who’s bought and recommended it. I hope reading it has helped you as much as writing it helped me 🙏🏻❤️😀

You know how you see a book everywhere, and think HOW CAN THIS DESERVE SO MUCH HYPE? Then you start reading, and you think IT DESERVES THE HYPE. Then you finish, and know it NEEDS EVEN MORE HYPE! Brava
@jennieg_author
An extraordinary achievement 👏👏👏
Something I learned when battling alcohol addiction which might be helpful: Take it one day at a time. Just make it to the end of today, congratulate yourself heartily and go to bed. Don’t look ahead, because that’s when you start catastrophising. Stay safe ❤️

- a tiny indentation. Checking that out saved my life, and could save yours (.)(.) ❤️
I wanted to show every woman how to properly check her breasts. This is the first in a series of 4 videos. I’ll post them all as a thread on Friday. First we need to talk about looking in the mirror
I am so glad I no longer drink. By this point I’d be chucking out loo roll and pasta to make room in the cupboard for a giant stash of wine.
#SelfIsolating
#Hoarding
I’m loving all the ‘five things I’ve done since turning 40’ posts, so here’s mine:
1. Quit an out-of-control booze habit
2. Survived breast cancer
3. Published a memoir
4. Written a novel (out in 2020)
5. Kept 3 children alive and happy!
(2/3) …how closely alcohol is linked to breast cancer. In a study published today in The Lancet they claim that heavy drinking increases your risk of breast cancer by 60% 😱 So please, take it from someone who’s been there and don’t see your wine habit as harmless….
...but I plucked up my courage, and sent it to my agent and my editors. They’ve just got back to me.
THEY LOVE IT!
There’s months of editing to do, obviously. But I have the bones of a second novel. And now I’m going to eat cake and have an afternoon nap.
THE END.
I found this pic from my great backpacking adventure of 1988! That was my hut, on Chaweng Beach, Koh Samui. It was the inspiration for the place Hazard stayed in my novel - The Authenticity Project. It cost me 50p a night. It was paradise 😀🏝📗
When we get out the other side, I really hope we can use

as a reminder to always be grateful for the simple things - freedom, kindness, friends, family and hugs. ❤️❤️❤️
