Climbing at altitude taxes the human body. When life goes bad we have two “get out of jail” cards. O2 and Dex. May 1999 I participated in a rescue of a climber on the north ridge of Everest after the climber experienced an open bivouac.

Congratulations.

Kancha Sherpa, Namche, Nepal. At 86 Kancha is the last local man from the 29 May 1953 climb of Everest by Norgay and Hillary. Respect for all that he has done.
"So, if you cannot understand that there is something in man which responds to the challenge of this mountain and goes out to meet it, that the struggle is the struggle of life itself upward and forever upward, then you won’t see why we go."
With respect for George Mallory.

is in the final stretch of his 14 x 8000m in 7 month project. Manaslu, Shishapangma & ChoOyu are the 3 remaining peaks. Nims and his team are Nepal strong. This we like.

So when the next tidal surge backs up the septic system at Mar A Lago will you blame it on a conspiracy of scientists?
Weather is not the same as climate. Being a stable genius, this should be super obvious
In this time of uncertainty please remember we are all in this together. We have one planet. Care for each other and the places that sustain us. All storms pass.

If they succeed Nims will have climbed all 14 8000 m peaks in 7 months.

Nims and team are at K2 basecamp waiting for a weather window and a stable snow pack. Let’s send him our collective good will for a safe and successful summit bid. #🇳🇵💪🏽
Climbing requires a positive outlook to uncertainty and risk. It is built upon experience and competence, honed over the years. We have to trust our systems and our partners, knowing panic is counterproductive.
Same foundation for the CV pandemic.
We will persevere.
What I was doing 30 years ago. Tent life in Alaska. The Walkman Outback was state of the art. We perfected the technique of coaxing every last electron out of the batteries.
The strength of this steroid was such that he stood up and became less of a burden for my friends and I. When President Trump boasts, “I feel better than I did 20 years ago!” , it’s not because of Covid 19, Diet Coke or cheeseburgers. It’s the Dex, dude.
Oh my

Dex is an incredibly effective drug when used at altitude. I would rather have President Trump on a 6 liter per minute flow of oxygen then jacked on ‘roids. The benefit of oxygen is increased mental acuity. Dex, on the other hand, can lead to aggression, agitation and anxiety.
Perhaps eliminating the Electoral College (one person - one vote), ending Citizens United and taxing the church might be a start to balance out power and representation in our nation, the United States.
Early winter at Denver International Airport. More snow moving equipment than jets. Thanks ground staff for the hard work that ensures the safety of travelers.
Aden has been climbing for 3 months. He is a regular at Memphis Rox and earns his pass by volunteering. Amazing to see the level of mentorship and motivation at this gym. Kudos to Tom Shadyac for the vision.

This is Hugo. He is 24 years old, which in horse time is getting on. We don't ride him no more. He likes carrots and is a connection to my late father. Gentle thoughts amidst a busy and chaotic world.
If we have a few camping nights each year we sail through the doldrums. This campsite is worth of lifetime of sailing through the doldrums.

Climbing Everest takes time and dedication. It requires teamwork. And its a humbling experience. Perhaps if
#potus
learned to climb he would have more empathy. Arrogance is not a value the climbing community embodies.

The summit is a source of power. The long view gives one knowledge. The summit, by
virtue of the dizzying exposure, leaves one vulnerable. A bit of confidence and a dash of humility is all we get for our work. To share these moments with friends is to be human.

The electoral college voted today, the 14th of November 2020. Will you recognize

as President Elect or will you continue to pour sugar in the gas tank of democracy? Voting is the basis of our nation. It is the fuel for democracy. Get with it.

It’s not just Spring Break revelers that dismiss the severity of Covid-19. Climbers visiting rural communities run the risk of accelerating the infection rate.

Are Montana values tax breaks for the ultra wealthy, updendibg health care and eviscerating the environment swathed in lies and deceit? Didn’t think so. There is more at stake than 2A. Trump value are NOT Montana values.
