The current message from both Labour and their supporters whenever they come under any kind of scrutiny is, "yeah we're bad but not as bad as the Conservatives". This ethos of simply not being the worst is not a solid foundation for a prosperous nation. I think it's time to accept that they are both awful and have been for the past 30 years. All self serving, belligerent in the face of criticism and enthralled by global politics, to the detriment of their own country.

Exactly. We already have socialism and it is already paid for primarily by high earners. Wealth creators build the economy. The radical socialism you suggest removes the incentive to create. Nationalisation also creates a paradigm whereby power is concentrated to an ever dwindling few. All centralised in the hope that our elected officials will do what is best for everyone. But unfortunately power corrupts. What you describe, the means of production owned by the state, is communism. Which has been repeatedly proven to fail. Unfortunately it relies on politicians that have no personal ambition. Ideally an honest politician. An oxymoron if ever there was one.
