Today is a good day, we have taken control of the council and will use the platform and the opportunity to deliver our manifesto. It won’t be easy by any means but we will work our socks off to deliver for the people of Edinburgh.
£63 million pounds of SNP/Green cuts to Edinburgh’s budget and the SNP Finance Secretary isn’t even willing to be chauffeured 5 mins up the High Street to justify them. Shameful disrespect to Scotlands capital.
@mattforde
Hi Matt, the Scottish Government could end this strike tomorrow if they gave us the money to fairly pay our workers. Many of our visitors would be shocked to learn Edinburgh is the worst funded council in Scotland.
It is difficult to articulate what the NHS means to me and to my family. To everyone who helped save my daughters life yesterday and who have helped us through the last 24hrs. Thank you ❤️
The momentum is certainly with
@CllrScottArthur
and our positive campaign for Edinburgh South West. With now less than a week to go we will be out all over the constituency fighting for every vote and the the change this county needs 👏
Mrs Jenkinson was knocked off her bike tonight on Morningside Rd 🤬 ambulance arrived quickly and we are now at the ERI waiting assessment. She is battered and bruised but hopefully nothing broken 🙏
Great news for walkers and cyclists. Pretty much the whole of the Water of Leith walkway that runs through the Ward is being resurfaced. Work starts on the 6th June👏👏👏
I'm really proud of our Edinburgh Labour manifesto. This infographic details some of our main policies and priorities for Edinburgh over the next 5 years.
I’m in London this week during Council recess and it was great to meet up with my good friend
@IanMurrayMP
in Westminster, it’s been a while since we’ve put the world to rights!
The
@theSNP
can’t be trusted with our NHS. 17 years of abject failure with people now bankrolling their own treatment and pulling out their own teeth. It is a national disgrace.
In tomorrow's Daily Record: The NHS crisis is leaving desperate patients in debt as they turn to private healthcare for treatment

I did a TV interview with ITV yesterday & they let the cat out of the bag - the SNP would bring down a Labour govt, and usher in another Tory govt in the unlikely event of a hung parliament.
Not sure Scottish voters will be keen to hear that.
Change is coming with
@UKLabour
Out with
@FoysolChoudhury
this afternoon campaigning for
@CllrScottArthur
in Colinton Mains. Brilliant response on the doors for a really popular local Councillor.
The latest polls echo what we are hearing on the doorstep. ESW is now a two horse race between Labour and the SNP and the more people hear our positive message for the future of this country the narrower the polls get 👍
On the eve of poll it was great to hear from Keir and Anas today on their plans to deliver the change that Scotland and the UK needs.
If you want change you have to vote for it!
My old friend Henry Philip who passed away yesterday will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. A true stalwart of the Edinburgh South election winning machine, a mentor and a gentleman.
Absolutely delighted the local party members have selected my good friend and mentor Sheila Gilmore as our Labour Party candidate in the up and coming Colinton/Fairmilehead by-election 👏
Delighted my article has been published in today's Edinburgh Evening News. The Labour candidates are united. We must fight for fairer funding for Edinburgh and against SNP/Green cuts.
At Edinburgh Licensing Board today, SNP & Green members insisted on joining remotely to avoid crossing the
@UniteCECbranch
&
@GMB_union
picket line.
Some Labour, Tory & Lib Dem members crossed the picket line at City Chambers.
🤔
We had a real grown up debate on the NCS in the Chamber yesterday. I was really pleased to receive the support of all parties (except the SNP) for my NCS motion. Edinburgh is against the imposition of a NCS as proposed and will fight to protect local gov.
Our house is full of flags and placards!Mrs Jenkinson will be on the picket line this morning fighting for fair pay for Edinburgh’s School support staff and I couldn’t be prouder.
Things are afoot and the polls are moving towards us. This is why we have been out speaking to voters every week since the beginning of February and this is why we work hard for every single vote. With a Labour Government in Westminster Edinburgh South West deserves a Labour MP
@CllrDownie
@kevin_lang
That’s awful
@kevin_lang
I’m glad you are ok and I hope the police take this very seriously indeed. None of us should fear physical assault when doing our job.
What is being proposed here is assisted suicide not assisted dying. We already have assisted dying, it’s called palliative care. This is another terrible Scottish Parliament bill, the unintended consequences of which could be quite frightening if it actually became law.
Delighted my composite motion with
@EuanHyslop
passed with all party support today. Edinburgh’s Warm and Welcoming Spaces will make a real difference this winter as many struggle against the cost of living crisis.
Another big team out in Bonaly this evening working hard for a win in Edinburgh South West and for
@CllrScottArthur
If you want change you have to vote for it!
The successful candidate in Edinburgh South West now becomes one of the 412 Labour MPs just elected - and to his surprise it is
@CllrScottArthur
helped greatly by his agent
@cllr_jenkinson
Multiple teams out today campaigning for
@CllrScottArthur
in Bonaly and Chesser today. I wasn’t in Chesser but there is a real tactical swing to Labour in Bonaly.
Absolutely devastating gas explosion overnight in Baberton Mains. I’m working with the Council to support the community at this very difficult time for local residents.
My morning started with a community litter pick in Currie, down at the Water of Leith, followed by a visit to the Balerno Children’s Gala. Great to see it back after a 3 year absence.
No one will come out campaigning on a Friday night they said….well they don’t know Labour activists! Fantastic response on the doorsteps in Stenhouse tonight for
@CllrScottArthur
‘s campaign to win Edinburgh South West👏👏👏
It was great to spend this afternoon speaking to voters in Parkhead. One of my old work colleagues (who used to be a SNP member) was delighted to tell me he was now supporting Cllr Scott Arthur - Gets Stuff Done. In his words “the SNP are finished” 👍
I’m not sure I can think of anything much lower that setting fire to a War Memorial on Remembrance Day 😡Edinburgh's War Memorial set on fire by vandals - BBC News
It has been a pleasure organising Labours Edinburgh South West GE campaign.
@CllrScottArthur
has been a fantastic candidate and will make a wonderful MP for this area.
If you want change go out and vote for it! Vote Labour 🌹
A number of constituents have been in touch regarding these signs that have been appearing on the Water of Leith pathway. The signs aren’t approved by the Council and they could be damaging trees. Council Officers are arranging for them to be removed.
It’s polling day! I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me get here over the last six months, there are far too many to mention but you all know who you are and I couldn’t have done it without you. 🤞
Really enjoyed the experience of convening my first Transport & Environment committee meeting today. It was certainly eventful with a fire alarm half way through! although I got to meet this lovely couple who had just got married at the City Chambers which was wonderful.
Thanks for all the kind words. We believe she inadvertently ate cashews that were in a sauce. We had an epipen which wasn’t enough. I called 999 and A&E worked on her for 30mins to sort her breathing where she needed adrenaline via an IV. In HDU now and she is doing well 🙏
Personally I’m very much FOR a WPL for Edinburgh. The money to invest in active travel and public transport has to come from somewhere and with shrinking budgets for Edinburgh it doesn’t seem to be coming from Holyrood does it?
Putting our differences aside I never thought
@rsmcksg
would vote for a Tory budget to bring down a Labour budget. If he has any integrity he will resign as a Councillor and fight a by-election as an independent.
What a beautiful day for the Balerno Farmers Market. I enjoyed learning all about Pentland Hills Gin and their plans for the future. A bottle was purchased for Mrs Jenkinson for putting up with an election campaign for the last six months 😳
Great news 👏 our public transport network has a huge role to play in helping us cut emissions, improve air quality and helping us achieve Edinburgh’s 2030 net zero targets. These new buses look great too.
From tomorrow (Sunday 8 September), the first of our brand-new double-deck electric buses will enter service!
Keep your eyes peeled on Services 8 and 9 to catch a glimpse of the new additions to our fleet on our road to net zero.

Back in Balerno this afternoon. We had lots of great conversations on the doors. Main issues are transport into town and the state of the roads and pavements.
I was delighted to be invited by the Currie Riding of the Marches Committee to attend the investiture of the new Ensign Jenny and new Equerry Aimee this afternoon in my first community event as one of Curries local Councillors. We’ll done everyone 👍
The ASB displayed last night around Gracemout was awful. LB were 100% right to stop services whilst the police managed the incident and I fully support LB’s zero-tolerance approach to ASB which let not forget exists to protect their workforce and passengers alike.
🚨I’m excited to announce I’m standing for selection to be the Labour Party candidate for the Pentland Hills Ward in next years Council elections. Looking forward to discussing my plans and priorities with the local members over the next few weeks.
@EdPentlandsCLP
The bus service in Ratho is awful. The residents were constantly let down by
@FirstBusnews
and now it seems
@mcgillswest
are no better. I will continue to press the Council to find a solution to this ongoing problem.
Fantastic
@EdPentlandsCLP
fund raising event tonight with Alistair Darling. I somehow managed to buy a bottle of
@Keir_Starmer
HoC whisky at an auction I was hosting. Stitched up again by the members 😂
My message to Scottish voters at
#Lab22
:
"If you want rid of this Tory govt then help us remove them.
If you want a UK govt that works for Scotland then help us elect one.
If you want away from the binary choice of separation v the broken status quo, help us deliver it."
Hurling abuse at journalists is never acceptable. Their job is vital to our democracy & it is to report & scrutinise, not support any viewpoint.
@BBCJamesCook
is a journalist of the highest quality and a total pro - the behaviour he was subjected to last night was disgraceful
As I said all along (and got stick for doing so) it was only ever the Scottish Government that could have ended this strike. Very frustrating that they did nothing constructive for weeks while workers lost pay and our city was turned into a midden.
The new “Green Bridge” across the Bravelaw Burn in Balerno has been installed. I would like to thank the Balerno Community Council for their leadership on this project. A great example of a community coming together to tackle an issue and enhancing their local environment.
New: Congrats to the Labour MPs just elected on to the transport select committee:
Scott Arthur, Catherine Atkinson, Elsie Blundell, Alex Mayer, Baggy Shanker, Laurence Turner
Full list of all Labour committee members here:
Important intervention from
@TransformScot
here 👇
“Transform Scotland said its report had found that the Scottish government had failed to meet seven out of 10 key commitments made over the past five years to invest in, and prioritise, sustainable transport.”
I went for a walk in Juniper Green yesterday with David and Hilda from
@LivingStreetsEd
. Really informative. There is a lot to do to improve the pedestrian experience (and our pavements) in Edinburgh.
@GMacdonaldSNP
“However, spending per pupil in Scotland has been higher than in the rest of the UK for a long period and educational outcomes have continued to disappoint over the last decade.” 😳
It was a privilege to spend this afternoon with members of the Pentlands Ukrainian Support Group at Currie Community Centre today. The way the local community have opened their hearts and their homes to those fleeing the war is just wonderful.
@MhairiHunter
I think you’ll find the main barrier to Scottish independence is the fact that the majority of people living here don’t actually want it.
The problem Adam has is that no one is falling for this crap anymore. He knows the next Labour Government will be transformational. The SNP need the Tories, we want or need neither of them.
Austerity is a political choice which has been hugely damaging for Edinburgh.
With Labour now fully signed up to the Tory ideology,
@theSNP
& independence are the only alternative on offer. 👇
