The state of our City is an absolute disgrace. Labour members of COSLA that voted for 3.5% pay rise, including Edinburgh Council Leader
@cllrcammyday
have a lot to answer for. If you'd voted for 5% in the first instance like
@theSNP
reps this couldve been avoided
I just got stopped by 20 y/o Kelly in the street while out canvassing because she wanted to tell me and
@theSNP
thank you for free tuition fees and free bus pass which has allowed her to study psychology. She started a job today, and doesn't have to worry about the cost of travel
We need SNP MPs to keep independence on the agenda and hold Labour to account: they must end austerity, invest in public services and respect Scotland's right to decide it's future! Put Scotland first with a vote for the SNP. Support my campaign here👇🏻
I joined thousands today on Princes Street to demand that our political leaders add their voices to calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Some wonderful spoken contributions including from
@TommySheppard
✊🏻
Delighted to welcome
@theSNP
colleagues
@StephenFlynnSNP
@JohnSwinney
and others to Edinburgh West this morning for the launch of our manifesto. It's clear that the SNP are the only party that will stand up for Scotland's best interests.
I can't thank the people of Drum Brae/Gyle enough for putting faith in me and
@theSNP
to represent our communities over the coming years. I'm looking forward to getting started with the hard graft 💪🏻
Delighted to have this endorsement from
@themuslimvoteuk
It's no surprise that our Muslim communties are turning to
@theSNP
considering the principled stance from our party on the massacre of thousands of Muslim innocents in Gaza and our calls to end arms sales to Israel.
Westminster policies on reserved matters like Energy and the Economy are failing communities throughout 🏴 and Edinburgh. I look forward to highlighting my priorities for Edinburgh West over coming months as I stand for election here
#GeneralElectionN0W
Pleasant evening campaigning with
@EDWESTERNSNP
@EuanHyslop
Good conversations with voters about importance of voting
#SNP
on 23rd May. Think I only found 1 Leave Voter, everyone else voted to Remain in the EU & will make their voice heard on 23rd May
#StopBrexit
#EUElections2019
Out campaigning in Inverleith with these lovely ladies. Wonderful response because of all the brilliant work
@VicNicSNP
is doing as a local Councillor here
#ActiveSNP
I very much enjoy working constructively with Green Party colleagues at Council, and I'm confident that will continue. It is regrettable the way the BHA has ended, but FM had few options. To not act decisively would have put his political fate in hands of another party's members.
I've had to recuse myself from a vote on implications of Housing Bill/rent controls at Housing Committee rn because I'm a tenant. It's a failure of our political system that elected reps/tenants are excluded from discussion about the impact of high rents in this city 🤯
Simply because the vast majority of people looking to relocate prioritise quality of life, and are happy to pay more progressive income tax for better services. Let this draw a line under the fallacy of capital flight from diverging Scottish income tax bands.
BREAKING: Thousands more taxpayers moved to Scotland than left each year in the period after the Scottish Income Tax was brought in, new research has found.
The Scottish Government said it shows Scotland is 'an attractive place to live and work'.
Story to follow.
I've had a wonderful response on doors today with the
@theSNP
team in Drylaw. Residents and local businesses here are very excited about change and they know that an SNP MP will fight their corner, and get the change we all need here.
What a wonderful Bookbug session with
@HumzaYousaf
at our amazing local library
@DrumbraeL
this morning. Angus is smitten! I'm not sure that bedtime stories with Dad are going to impress anymore 😂
Really uplifting day on the doors today and a MASSIVE shift by our teams across the constituency putting out our GOTV leaflets. Just three days till polling day!
Solidarity with staff at Benitos Deli who have woken up to a smashed front door this morning. There's no place for these acts of mindless vandalism. To get a new business off the ground requires a lot of investment: your time, money and resilience. If you can, go show support 🍦
The
@ScotlandRHShow
is always a good reminder that Scotland's agriculture and food and drink sectors are absolutely world class, and a privilege to host here in Edinburgh West. Thanks to
@JimFairlieLogie
and
@JohnSwinney
for accompanying me along this year!
Really tough night for my
@theSNP
colleagues across country. Congratulations to
@cajardineMP
and a shout out to
@Michael4EdWest
,
@kvisleis
and others for a well fought campaign. Time for a well earned rest
There we have it then, a Lib Dem, Labour and Tory Coalition Administration in Edinburgh. Based on their irreconcilable policy stance, can't see how it will last any length of time
During the election campaign some of the ladies at Queensferry Parish Church told me about this lovely wee cafe/bakery in Queensferry, delicious brew from
@CairngormCoffee
and a tasty focaccia piece 🤌🏻 well worth the visit
Absolutely correct
@TommySheppard
I've had one eye on the market over the last year and the increase in rents is terrifying. Try finding a 2 bed flat for less than £1k pcm. Working class families being priced out of the City.
Thanks
@OpenUniversity
, it's been great. I'd like to say that I'm looking forward to all the free time... But study time is now consumed by a fiery wee one year old. Extra respect to the parents that recieved one of these through the post today 👏🏻👏🏻
When is a price 'cap' not a price cap
@UKLabour
?
- When you increase it so regularly that it ensures consumers pay the price for volatility that your energy policies have created as opposed to profiteering energy firms.
When is 'Change' not change
@ScottishLabour
?
I'd like to thank everyone
@theSNP
for a fantastic 89th National Annual Conference. It was engaging, uplifting and well organised.
@HumzaYousaf
's closing speech was incredibly moving, rousing and inspiring. What a leader he has shown himself to be these last number of days.
Westminster has failed young people with austerity, economic crisis and a failed Brexit that they most likely didn't vote for or didn't get a say on.
@theSNP
now offering the only route back into the EU 🏴🇪🇺
What an achievement 👏🏻👏🏻 I know that I wouldn't have studied if not for this policy. Let's continue to offer world class education and training opportunities to all without the burden of a lifetime of debt 💪🏻🏴
📢 690,000 Scots have benefited from the scrapping of tuition fees since 2007.
📚 This approach has widened access and allowed record numbers of students from the poorest backgrounds to attend university.
👉 Under the SNP, there will never be tuition fees in Scotland.
It seems that lifting one hundred million Brazilians out of poverty and bringing an end to illegal exploitation of the natural environment has the fash rattled. Solidarity
@LulaOficial
I took a walk through Queensferry with
@CllrNormanWork
to talk about the High Street. There's a lot of empty units as the Cost of Living bites. The Council doesn't recognise it as a Town Centre which puts it's vitality at further risk of long term decline 1/3
If this new Labour/Lib Dem administration is voted in with the Tories' support on Thursday the people of West Edinburgh will hold the Lib Dems to account on all their promises to the people of West Edinburgh. Time to hunt out all those leaflets
On Thursday, there will be two propositions before Edinburgh Council to form an administration; a SNP/Green coalition and a Labour minority.
The LibDem opposition group has agreed to back the option offering the best chance for change.
We’ll be voting for the Labour minority.
In the middle of a climate crisis in one of the most polluted parts of the city, a conservation area, and we're cutting down hundred year old trees? Is this really necessary?
This tree in the car park behind the empty shops on St Johns Road is being taken down today. It also happens to be directly outside the back window of the Manse. Does anyone know anything about it being taken down?
The cost of living is putting serious pressure on our local High Streets and it's time Queensferry was offered the same protections and support as the eight 'official' Town Centres
Gutted that this monkey puzzle is being felled. We need more Tree Protection Orders here in Drum Brae/ Gyle or we'll be left with a concrete barren wasteland
@jazzearthgirl
@Edinburgh_CC
@edinhelp
@CllrScottArthur
@edjthornley
@EdinPolNW
Lastly, I've submitted a motion to full Council on Thursday which hopes to initiate a culture change with regard to use of vehicles in parks, starting with Council staff/services. While also asking for a report into the full resources available now to stop this antisocial parking
We received confirmation today that these absolutely ridiculous changes have been implemented by the Tories. The £38,700 minimum is going to wreak havoc in hospitality, arts, construction, health, and social care sectors.
@PidginPosting
Toxic stuff and I hope his colleagues call him out for playing politics with the issue and trying to silence the voices of young women who face enough barriers without 'liberal' men railroading them
Nazis and racist thugs looting shops, setting fire to property, assaulting police officers and hunting down Black and Asian people to attack in the street. Absolutely horrific, and a big test for the new Labour Government. So far leadership is sorely lacking
@Keir_Starmer
It beggars belief that almost the entire Westminster Establishment is soo far off the mark on this in the face of such human cruelty, the killing of three British citizens and clear public opinion. UK political institutions are failing us.
Disgusted to hear from the parent council of Clermiston Primary School that their bike shed was broken into, and 3 bikes stolen. We need safe, secure bike storage to encourage more cycling. I'll work with the parent council to make sure it continues to be the best option
This is a miserable situation for small businesses. Many will be forced to close this winter if UK Govt continue to twiddle their thumbs. Small businesses and their employees paying the price for Tory party chaos
I've received a really welcome response from residents of Drylaw with my good friend local councillor
@VicNicSNP
and team. From the conversations I've had today, I don't see any sign of an uptick in labour support here
Condolences to Cathy, Hamish, Angus and Ben. Their loss will be felt across the Rugby community. What an incredible 5 years of tireless activism in the face of such a horrible disease
Nice to be out enjoying our new
@PathsforAll
funded paths with Minister for Public Health and Women's Health
@jenni_minto
and the Friends of Gyle Park to mark Mental Health Awareness Week 🌳
This is a step in the right direction but doesn't make up for the loss of the 41. I'll be pushing Lothian Buses to go further and extend it to all full week, all day service.
The Council's consultation document on the development of 7000 new homes in Gogar and Ingliston has been approved at Planning Committee today with a big win from SNP Councillors demanding more focus on the impacts on local traffic congestion
Edinburgh! Stand up to the rioting, racist thugs and far right ideologues preaching hate in our communities.
We mustn't be complacent about rioting spreading north of the border.
Diversity is strength.
Refugees welcome 🏴
