My child could tell you the plots of every cartoon on Netflix, and her analysis of their moral quality. She also reads in bed every night until I take away her flashlight. Media literacy is as effective at building literacy skills, and mediums don't inherently have moral value.
My 8 yr old is never given access to a mobile device.
She has, however, read Narnia, Harry Potter, Through the Looking Glass, and countless other books.
