After almost two years at Game Informer, I’m looking for a new gig! Hit me up if you need a writer, video editor, or podcast guest. I’d also love to transition to PR or comms work.
Freelance, part time, full time — I’m down for anything. DMs are open, RTs appreciated!
I didn’t see it until now, but I made my IGN debut today! This piece was originally going to go in the last issue of Game Informer, so thanks
@LawofTD
for editing it and giving it a place to live
I think a lot of people grew up knowing game informer and assume that since we still get big cool exclusives that we must be well staffed. Nope! We’re down to six writers now, only five of which are full time. Our entire video team is Alex.
Imagine looking at the number of people on this masthead— who churn out weekly podcasts, videos, and daily online editorials in addition to shipping an 84-page print magazine every six weeks— and somehow justifying cutting it even more.
A lot of people have seen this tweet and not the quote tweet: I was laid off just minutes later! Slack access was gone mid-call, so I couldn’t respond to him, and now I can’t access my work email to follow up on a project I was working on. Great times!
Larian, creators of Baldur's Gate 3, share its thoughts on the game's unprecedented success, cancelling the Baldur's Gate 3 DLC, and working on its next game.
I’m super excited about this!!! This is honestly a dream gig for me, so I’m over the moon that I actually got it. One of the coolest things about the process is that they let us use a video as a cover letter. Here’s the ending of mine:
Every time I took a lunch break at Game Informer, I would announce it with a food-based song parody. Usually, they were text, but as shown in the outro of the latest episode of the MinnMax show, some were audio.
Here's a thread of the rest of them:
Excited to announce I’ll be contributing to the Indie Informer in the coming weeks! I’m excited to work with Jill, excited to cross paths with my old coworkers again, and most of all, I’m excited to play some sick indie games!
The Indie Informer is growing!

Hey guys, not sure if you noticed but I’m verified now! It’s super exciting and I’m glad that I’ll be verified forever and that there’s no reason it would ever go away. Anyways, that’s enough tweeting for today. I’m off to read the news!
This is finally live! It would really mean a ton to all of us over at Game Informer if you threw us a subscription.
Since this isn't a part of GameStop's rewards program, this is the first time in the history of the magazine that we've been able to have direct financial support.
We’re proud to announce the new standalone Game Informer magazine subscription. Get 10 issues of print in your mailbox, and also read the new issue digitally. All for just $19.91 for a full year. Please support us by signing up today.
In our final video interview with the Resident Evil 4 team, they told us about all the ways they've modernized the original's classic gameplay. Check out our exclusive interview here:
This was my first six pager (my longest print feature ever) AND my first time interviewing people in a different language. Sad that those “firsts” turned into “lasts,” but really happy with how it turned out!
Not knowing it was going to end up in the last issue of Game Informer 😭, I had the honor to work with the incredible
@chuckduck365
on this beautifully designed story for Visions of Mana.
Charles interviewed six legends on the dev team and did an *amazing* job. Please read it!
Microsoft flew me out to do a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon to promote the new edition of Flight Simulator! We’ll have a proper travelogue up soon, but if you want the abridged version, you can watch it in my chunk of the MinnMax show.
It… did not go as planned 🥴
Here's a great, new episode of The MinnMax Show with
@MichaelPHuber
joining us to rave about Dead Rising,
@kelslewin
to give Visions of Mana some love, and
@chuckduck365
to talk about his wild adventures with Microsoft Flight Simulator '24.
Now that it’s done, my SGF thoughts:
Such Great Fun! Smiled, Gamed, Forewent Sleep, Gobbled Food, & Shot Goofy Footage. Silly Gamer Fantasy Sometimes Got Frantic. Still, Group’s Fantastic.
Sincerely Grateful, Frankly.
@yacobg42
I don’t think saying “there’s a big twist in this game” up front is spoiler territory if that’s literally all you say. As long as you don’t spoil the nature of the twists or when they happen, I think that’s plenty of warning.
Wanted to imrove my D&D skills and meet some new people in the area I just moved to… so today is my first day of improv class! Super nervous, but I always thought it looked fun
Did two interviews today and got a “I’ve never gotten that question before” and two “that’s a really good question”s, so I think it’s safe to say I might be the best interviewer in the world.
@imranzomg
My favorite part about this is that the scammer’s go-to picture is just a person picking up orange slices at some kind of breakfast buffet, as if that’s a normal type of photo to have on hand
I made my brother an 8 minute video to show him how I make my breakfast sandwiches and kind of absentmindedly sang a few words in the last shot. He replied by remixing the audio into an actual song.
I haven’t announced it here yet, so…
I am officially going to Summer Game Fest!!! I’ll be going on behalf of MinnMax, but I’ll also be writing up some stuff for Game Informer while I’m there.
Let me know if you’ve got any cool games to show off!
Thanks again to the MinnMax community for sending me out to SGF — I had a really great time and everyone made me feel super welcome! Hopefully, I convey that in this travel vlog.
What's it like to attend
@SummerGameFest
? Thanks to your support on Patreon, we sent
@chuckduck365
to his first video game event. We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at Summer Game Fest 2024!
The latest Toaster update: he’s obsessed with this little green toy shaped like a dog. He brings it with him EVERYWHERE. Sometimes he just picks it up and sprints around the house.
We have decided to name it Crumbs.
Apartment Story's visuals aren't enough to distract from the fundamentally flawed relationship between its story and gameplay.

Was there ever an official release of the mashup of the orchestra with what’s up danger? That was definitely the coolest moment in the movie for me, musically or otherwise.
I never got to write a cover story and I never got to go full time, but I dont look back on my experience with an even ounce of regret. Goodbye, GI. You were the best job I ever had. (8/8)
Shout out to
@godsewa
and the Fanbyte internship program. I never would have come anywhere close to here without them, and it sucks that I’ll probably be the last intern the site ever had. I hope I make y’all proud!
Wanted to imrove my D&D skills and meet some new people in the area I just moved to… so today is my first day of improv class! Super nervous, but I always thought it looked fun
My latest, coolest piece! I got to talk to the whole music team behind Stray Gods about how they wrote this wild web of a musical. This is one of my favorite things I've gotten to write in a long time. Check it out!
We spoke with
@TroyBakerVA
,
@awintory
, and the rest of the team at
@summerfallgames
about how they made Stray Gods, a choice-based musical with millions of endings. Read the full story here:
A year ago today I started at fanbyte, which means it's my one-year anniversary in games media! To celebrate, this thread is gonna be a little trip down memory lane.
.
@chuckduck365
was hoping to use this preview trip to play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and fly over The Grand Canyon as a chance to cure his fear of flying.
It didn't go as planned. Enjoy this new travelogue!
In September of 2022, I got laid off (alongside most of the staff) the day before the last day of my internship at fanbyte. It crafted me into the beginnings of a writer, but I was worried about getting a real job somewhere in the space. I had to get lucky. (2/8)
There IS a lot of luck involved in this field, but solely crediting luck for your success minimizes the deliberate, kind actions of the people around you. I got lucky, but I also had so much help, both from people I knew at fanbyte and people I had never met before. (3/8)
In fact, I met nothing but kind, helpful people. It’s actually kind of weird how cool everyone there is. Even my BOSSES
@MatthewRMiller
@KyleMHilliard
and
@BrianPShea
were/are cool. That’s weird! (6/8)
I am lucky that I wound up at a place full of kindness, but luck doesn’t make people kind; you have to choose to be kind, and the folks at Game Informer made that choice every day. (7/8)
By some miracle, I actually got the job, and from day one, I was treated as an equal part of the team. Despite being younger and less experienced than everyone else, I still got codes for games, edited videos for the cover story, and appeared on the GI Show regularly (5/8)
When the GI position was posted, I applied, but due to some kind of technical error, it was completely lost in the system. It was ONLY because people advocated for me to the higher ups at the site that my application went through for consideration at all. (4/8)
Margaret was our incredible Production Director at Game Informer and I don’t know how anything in that organization would run without her. Endlessly capable, extremely smart, and one of the first people to welcome me to GI. Hire her!!!
Well, I am officially in the market for a new job. 12 years of print & digital magazine production work at GI plus another decade in journalism and tech. Would love to make some connections as I look ahead to my next thing.
Last week, I got the opportunity to interview the incredible
@insanerainmusic
! it was a fantastic conversation, and thanks to the folks over at
@HDminusworld
, it didn't have to die with the
#FanbyteLayoffs
. If you want to support me, check it out!
Sometimes I think “I should finish the games I start more often” but this week I finished both the games I was playing on the same day and now I have no idea what to do with myself
I can’t believe LinkedIn was harvesting my data to use for AI tools. Next I’m gonna find out that they lied about me being “on a roll” for the past ten consecutive months.
@Gameonysus
There are a lot of replies here saying they’ve never heard people say this but they 100% say wild stuff like this every time I’m at the drive thru.
I always want to say something back like “cock a doodle doo, here’s what imma do” but I forget every time
Casual reminder to any mutuals that (especially in my current state of unemployment) I’m almost always willing to DM a game of D&D, especially if you’ve never played it before and want to try it out
(I’m also down to be a player, if someone needs to fill out a party)
@Charalanahzard
I’m totally down for a Batman beyond movie, but I really don’t like the idea that it’s DC’s “answer” to Marvel. I want it to just be good for the sake of being good.
The new episode of The MinnMax Show is now live!
@chuckduck365
from
@gameinformer
joins us to talk about Assassin's Creed Mirage, Cocoon, El Paso Elsewhere, and
@leovader
begs us not to overlook Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.
