Residents have been asking us why so many hydrants are red-bagged. This is an effort by the City of Chardon to protect them from corrosion from winter anti-icing agents. These hydrants ARE IN SERVICE, and the bags rip open easily for firefighters. Thank you for your inquiries.

Wildlife Assist!! Today, our “C” Shift personnel responded to a Court Street address for a unique situation. In pursuit of lunch, “Hank The Hawk” got stuck in a porch area. Chardon firefighters responded and safely caught and released Hank! We did set his lunch in a safer spot!

Chardon sent a tanker and ladder truck to Middlefield Twp for a structure fire at 13851 Station St. tonight. 21 additional departments also responded due to limited water. Our ambulances have also handled 5 EMS calls during this incident, so far.
We had a visit from Titan and Molly, two comfort / therapy dogs from NAMI of Geauga County. They were making the rounds through our department and the rest of the City of Chardon city hall offices. It’s always good to see our furry friends.

On Monday, 3/20/2023, Justin Geiss (right) was sworn in as fire chief at Chardon Fire Department. Chief Larry Gaspar (now 1st Asst Chief), swore him in, and he was pinned by his mother. Chief Geiss was joined by his family, although his wife joined him in spirit, due to illness.
We remember… $48,000 donated by Chardon area residents over the 3 weeks post 9/11. All funds went to help 9/11 first responder families get back on their feet.

Today, we announce the promotion of two new full-time firefighter/paramedics, Chris Kovacs and Ali Haefke. Both have been part-timers with CFD for awhile. Chris returns to us from Dallas Fire Department, while Ali has worked with Burton FD and a local ER. Congrats!
Congratulations to Chardon FD members Jeremy Marks, Austin Hejduk, and Zach Lawrence who graduated from Auburn Career Center’s Paramedic program tonight. They will now take the upgraded version of the National Registry of EMTs Paramedic exams.

Chardon Squad 3353 with Capt Blauch and FF/Paramedic Hejduk covered the demolition derby tonight at The Great Geauga County Fair with Montville FD’s engine crew. Huge crowd, great weather, and everyone went home safe & uninjured.

Here is a photo dump from yesterday’s mutual aid response to Windsor. Capt Homovec & Lt Davidson responded with our Brush Unit 3367 for 5 hours in 85° heat. During this time, all of our area fire departments were stretched thin due to this careless open burn gone wrong.

Chardon Fire Department supports our community! Today, we used funds from food booth to purchase the 3rd Place Dark Maple Syrup winner from Geauga County Maple Festival Blue Ribbon Syrup Auction. The funds from our food trailer sales go to our independent firefighters fund.
Today, Chardon & Munson Fire Departments set up a ladder arch with the American flag at the Veterans Memorial. The Middlefield-Burton Rotary then honored our veterans with a jeep parade.
