God bless them all! In 2017, I visited Baghdeda (Qaraqosh) right after ISIS was forced out, the destruction in the town was heartbreaking. The revival of this Syriac Catholic town - even after the residents have faced so many tragedies- is beautiful to see.❤️✝️

A correction: There’s no such thing as “Assyrian language.” This term was created in last 50 years. The correct name of indigenous language of East Mesopotamia is “Chaldean” (mix of Akkadian & Aramaic). Chaldean was the language of the last native ruling empire of Mesopotamia.

The first empire of Mesopotamia & in the entire world was the Akkadian Empire (ca. 2350–2150 B.C.), founded by Sargon the Great. Akkadian Empire encompassed all of Mesopotamia & Levant. Chaldeans are the Akkadians. Modern “Assyrians” derive from Persia & the Caucuses.
The Assyrians are the only original people of the area that is known by Assyriologists as the ‘Assyrian Triangle’ or ‘Central Assyria’. There’s not any other ethnicity that can claim legitimate historical ties to it besides the Assyrian people.

Even in modern times, the symbolic Cross used by both the Chaldean Church and the Assyrian Church is the Chaldean Cross. This further reinforces that the original founders of the original Church of the East (just outside Babylon, Iraq) were Chaldeans.

None of these are Assyrian monasteries. Mar Mattai is Syriac, Rabban Hormizd is a Chaldean monastery. Assyrians have no monasteries in Iraq because modern Assyrians are from Turkey & Iran, not Iraq. You are an Assyrian pretending to be Armenian.
