Today I spoke to someone who said how suicidal they were when they had acne and how accutane changed their life. It reminded me why I’m so passionate about derm and acne. I love this field. We have so much power to make a change in patients’ live.

I witnessed a patients’ results to laser for hair loss and there are no words to describe the feeling it is to see the face of an alopecia patient who has regrown a full head of hair. No words.

So much changing so fast. I am moving out of my hometown for the first time in my life (essentially) and living elsewhere for 4 years. There are so many emotions coming from this. Will I make friends, will I be happy,where will I find Cuban food??
But I’m also excited.

I was accepted as a peer tutor for my school. I am so happy!
I remember I didn’t apply as a second-year because I thought I wasn’t smart enough/ had the grades to be a tutor. I regretted not applying so much that this year-my last year, I told myself I would apply!

These past few months have been stressful (applications, aways, etc.), but I must say that I’ve met some of the most genuinely supportive people in the derm field, which has made this so much easier to navigate. I am eternally grateful. I can’t wait to do the same for others 🥹

At my restaurant job I think I’m the only person who does not vape. I *somewhat* understand it if it’s your alt to cigarettes but young adults who have never touched a cigarette are resorting to them like they’re benign

The hardest part about rotations being so short is forming really strong relationships with patients and investing so much time into their care and suddenly you have to switch and never see them again. Breaks my HEARTTTTT and this is why I can’t do hospital medicine

Working at a pigmented lesions clinic and with oncologists really makes me realize how common melanoma is in young patients. Everyday we see at least one patient (that is Hispanic btw) with metastatic melanoma!! It is incredibly sad.

The fact that some programs have 24 hour call is absurd. I worked my regular call after 5 days of no day off and l immediately could notice the difference between my attention span on my non-call day vs call day.

Practice scrubbing in as much as you can. Some attendings are very particular- with good reason, about this. Know how to put the gown, gloves, washing (the whole process) in a sterile manner. Seems easy but it can be stressful when the attending is just there staring at you lol
