@HN_Schlottman He legally can't name it after Braxton Bragg. This isn't a compromise, it's the best he can do.

@JohnDixonJr1972 @Wsoxfnj1Soxfan4 @RarelyTolerated Any money spent by FEMA on housing immigrants was money given to them by Congress from Customs and Border Patrol's budget. None of that money was taken from FEMA's pool. That's always been fully transparent.

@DefenseBaron Trump and Hegseth did as much as they could. Congress prevented anything further back in 2019.

@sitt_ezra @RyanPortland2 @damintoell I think the only reason he didn't change it back to the original name is that it would be against the law

@61CygnaiSN1987A @30YearVeteran @DeptofDefense @SecDef Yeah, a year before the renames happened congress prohibited any military names related to the Confederacy, so this is the only way they could get the old name back without getting congress to change the law.

@WM57241914 @Ranger_Up That would require congress to change the law that prevents bases being named after Confederates

@JoshFerdelman @SonnyBunch Tbh he probably wanted a straight up reversal, but that would require congress to change the law. This gets around the law.

@ElCapitanMurica @SonnyBunch The bases were renamed by a bipartisan bill that had enough support to override Trump's veto. This is political football too. It'll cost another 2 million to change it back. Tbh Hegseth probably wanted to name it after the original Bragg, but Congress prohibited that.

@dillonrpayton @Doha104p3 It cost 2 million the first time too. I agree the rename is stupid though.

@johnnygunower @cbloor @EODHappyCaptain No, Congress will have to allocate funds for the name change, DoD cannot take money from USAID

@JimLaPorta Someone should ask DOGE how they feel about spending over 2 million dollars on this name change

@61CygnaiSN1987A @30YearVeteran @DeptofDefense @SecDef Changing it back to Bragg is stupid, but now it's named after a different Bragg, not the Confederate general

@JohnDixonJr1972 @Wsoxfnj1Soxfan4 @RarelyTolerated That's because Congress gives budgets to different departments. FEMA cant take USAIDs money, USAID can't take FEMAs money. Budgets are a good thing, we don't want departments to have unlimited money. If a FEMA budget isn't enough for hurricane season then Congress can increase it

@PaniMatsuda @itsmedanielfc @geogvma @BBC It was an Australian Broadcasting Corporation documentary released last year, its creation wasn't linked to the BBC from anything I've found. Though I agree that the BBC shouldn't be streaming it on their site.
