"Jesus said 'Whatever you do to the least of these my brothers, you've done it to me.' This is what I've come to think. That if I want to identify fully w/ Jesus, who I claim to be my Savior & Lord, the best way that I can do that is to identify with the poor."
-Rich Mullins

"There were also women watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. In Galilee these women followed him and took care of him. Many other women had come up with him to Jerusalem. '
Mark 15:40-41

"Large areas of ‘The World’ will not hear us [Western Christians] till we have publicly disowned much of our past.
Why should they?
We have shouted the name of Christ and enacted the service of Moloch." - C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves
Pastors, we need to keep talking about racism & the church!

Hey
@DSBChurch
, tomorrow we'll explore one of the creation accounts in the Psalms & discover how ancient Israel understood the cosmos & their trust in God to bring order out of chaos.
Oh, & dragons. We'll talk about dragons.

I wonder if the number of documentaries & articles by non-evangelicals exposing evil within American Evangelicalism would be so high if we would have chosen to listen to our prophets instead of disfellowship them.
@brandonjobrien
Jason Fischer said something like "A lot of ppl talk about Christianity's influence on America, but very few talk about America's influence on the Christianity."
This piece by
@esaumccaulley
, is worthy of reflection.
"...it’s fine for us to debate the strengths and weaknesses of theories like CRT. No theory is above reproach. But that debate cannot be used to wish away the more pressing question of justice for the oppressed...
Well done
@esaumccaulley
Only in the context of racial injustice are we told to articulate the plan of salvation exclusively. When marriages are struggling, we don’t just preach the gospel to couples. We give them practical tools to love one another."
@bobstevenson
This seems to contradict Paul:
"to be specific, that the (ethne) are fellow heirs and fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel" - Eph 3:6
"Perhaps the most dangerous temptation to Christianity is to get itself officialized in some version by a government following... For want of a Pilate of their own, some Christians would accept a Constantine or whomever might be the current incarnation of Caesar.”
-Wendell Berry

I found out this week that the manuscript for my new book, Disarming Leviathan: Loving Your Christian Nationalist Neighbor, has been sent to the printer!
Levi is very happy.
"Diet was thrown into prison for possessing a false ID.
One day Diet took a bobby pin and scratched the words of Jesus into the prison’s brick wall: “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end.”
Don't expect those on the political Left or political Right who don't walk in our faith, but prostitute our faith for political power, to accurately represent our faith.
Meet Levi, the mascot for Disarming Leviathan, who is, in fact, a very disarming Leviathan.
Also, my book is now shipping if you purchase from

The MLK monument faces Jefferson.
I asked the ranger about it and he said the placement signified the Civil Rights Movement's call for the rights Jefferson guaranteed in the DOC.
Props to the designer(s) for that prophetic move.
"The foolish mixing of patriotism, war enthusiasm, and Christian faith could one day lead to the bitterest disappointment …
We will not join in drinking this intoxicating potion. We want to look steadfastly and unwaveringly here to God, who loves everyone equally, who is above
I was today years old when I learned that Urakami (Northern Nagasaki) housed thousands of Christians during the 1600-1800s ban on Christianity. In 1925 it was home to the largest cathedral in East Asia.
It was destroyed in 1945 by atomic bomb.
"Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name"

The ESV Study Bible, which you said was your

pick for a study bible, appears to categorize the commands in Exodus 20 as "Social Justice."
Is this "sin repackaged by prideful people?"
This has been one of the biggest shifts for me over the last 4 years. While this posture is a daily struggle, it has given me hope & a clear way forward.
This approach is anchored in Gal. 6:1-3 MSG "Live creatively, friends. If someone falls into sin, forgivingly restore him...
Reading about Uvalde, TX now as I watch my children play in the yard.
Hard to put into words the gut-wrench lament, pain, sadness, fear and longing for justice.
As that ancient seeker once dared, I too question: How long, o' Lord?

@ScottAniol
, to what does Rev 21:24-26 refer to?
The nations (ethne) will walk by its light, & the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it... & they will bring the glory & the honor of the nations (ethnon) into it.
Purveyors of American Christian Nationalism often argue that the ends justify the means. One of the most effective means, in their eyes, is the use of hostile, vulgar, and dehumanizing rhetoric sprinkled with god talk.
We need missionaries to reach this people group!
I can’t tell which is more bizarre—the fact that Trump said “bullshit” in the very same sentence that he said he wouldn’t say that word in front of children, or the fact that the crowd chanted “bullshit” afterward.

Agreed.
Christian Nationalism started with Peter in Gethsemane.
While Jesus was reaching towards his cross, Peter reached for his sword.
You cannot hold onto both.
Thank you for this

"Christians are invited to imitate Jesus, who was exceedingly generous with his time."
"When 'Christian' and 'Nation' are fused, Christianity inevitably takes on a secondary status as the legitimating mechanism for the goals of the state and ceases to be a prophetic voice to the nation" Wilkens and Sanford, Hidden Worldviews.
