I was really happy to see this plant at

Today a friend & I went off to see the Lizard, the wonderful Lizard of... Leicestershire!
He lives on a road verge.
I asked my friend, is it true that the Lizard smells like an old billy goat? Judging by her face, yes he does.
#ThatsWhatFriendsAreFor
Have you noticed people here on Twitter recently discussing the relative merits of traditional hay meadows and wildflower-rich verges vs pictorial meadows from "wildflower" seed mixes? The thread below from
@nervousbotanist
sets out the
#thisisameadow
arguments really clearly.
Whenever I see a post on here with a photo of a road verge, or other open space, covered in brightly coloured sown annual flowers, along with fulsome praise for whichever LA or other authority is responsible, for creating such a wonderful expanse of "wildflowers" or "meadow" ...

I am obsessed with hogweed, it’s becoming a problem. I can’t walk past it without examining every flower head and taking a picture! It may be common but it really is a beautiful plant that keeps on giving. Not to mention it’s great for invertebrates too.

Thread - What is a wildflower meadow and why are native species important?
Wildflower meadows contain flowering plants which were not sown or planted there & occur naturally. They're important because of how other species interact with them. These relationships are often complex
