Sabrina hitting the exact score that Dame won with, losing to Steph, and the immediate commentary being “welp, she should’ve shot from the women’s line 🤷♂️” pretty much sums up our experience if ya’ll are wondering 😂

The Raptors will become the 10th NBA team with a female assistant coach this season, only Brittni Donaldson's journey there is a little different. Plus Masai Ujiri on when the league will see a female head coach or GM:

This is what we currently call ‘equal opportunity’.
Even though these ladies are unfortunately used to it by now, there is absolutely no excuse. Be better,

Dear news sources,
Please consider whether or not you’d ever include “a man” as your only descriptor when sharing information about a qualified person accepting a cool job offer.
- a woman
The Pistons add Keith Bogans, Rashard Lewis and Brandon Bailey as Assistant Coach/Player Development Coach and Brittni Donaldson as Assistant Coach/Director of Coaching Analytics. George David elevated to Associate GM. Kevin Grigg elevated to SVP & Chief Communications Officer.
Anyone who is eager to break into the sports analytics realm (data scientists, analysts, engineers, and the like), DM me.
I know some fantastic people/orgs who are hiring, and I will forward the postings to you.
I've gotten a lot of questions regarding my career status.
I left the Toronto Raptors organization at the end of last season. During my 4 years there, I learned, developed, & was able to work with some exceptional people.
Grateful for the experience, & excited for what's ahead.
A historic broadcast crew featuring women in every on-air role will call tonight's Raptors game on TSN. 👏
Watch the Raptors-Nuggets game LIVE starting with Raptors Game Day at 7pm et/4pm pt.
Something that isn't talked about enough in the coaching world is the drastic differences in responsibilities between being a Head Coach vs. an Assistant Coach.
Many HC's are hired based off of their AC "experience". But in most cases, being an AC doesn't prepare you to be a HC.
Since playing high-level sport, I've had a really hard time distinguishing "rest" from "laziness".
I'm still learning how to allow myself rest (physically & mentally) without feeling immense shame or guilt.
How can we help athletes have a healthier relationship with rest?
3yrs ago, I attended a sports analytics conference and there were 8 women out of 3000+ attendees working in pro 🏀 (1st photo).
Yesterday
@WinSportsData
, I spoke to 200+ incredible women either already working in or eager to work in the sports analytics space (2nd photo).
Wow.
This is an excerpt from an article titled “Are You Tough Enough?” that was given to me to read - from a coach - when I was a collegiate athlete.
I want to to share a few thoughts around using the concept of “toughness” as a cornerstone to coaching (& playing) success.
🧵THREAD:
I should add: I began my career outside of sports.
I worked as an Intern for an investment firm as well as a Business Analyst at a call center. Both kept my technical skills sharp & provided me experience analyzing large amounts of data/presenting insights. Super transferable!
Women often need that “played the game at a high level” credibility to even be allowed into the coaching space. Men do not. Why? 💭
Let me know your thoughts ⬇️
(Thread): I took this photo in February of 2016. It was your retirement year. I’d just moved to Chicago, alone, was working a minimum-wage job, but bought a nosebleed ticket to this game because I knew I had to see you play.

Having been a “translator” of 🏀 data for almost a decade now, I’m often asked if coaches/players are resistant to analytics. To me, its less about others’ “resistance” & more about my approach - data is a tool, not a weapon!
So much love & appreciation for this org that gave me my first NBA opportunity and for this city that was my home for 5 years.
Also - LOVE seeing
@MeryAndrade23
kill it! 💪
Inclusion = who gets a seat at the table
Influence = who has the ability to contribute, decide, & change
When evaluating an org or a system, let us not confuse the 2.
Have any NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB/MLS teams acknowledged/made a statement/shown allyship re: the Supreme Court’s attack on reproductive rights? Seems awfully quiet…
The narrative around the volume of NCAA athletes entering the transfer portal needs to shift from “Kids are just not tough/committed these days!” to “I wonder how we can get more athletes to develop & feel belonging no matter what their role is.”
Game 5. East Finals. Tonight.

Hawks fans! I have a few tickets to tomorrow’s home game that I’m looking to give away to families with young girls that love 🏀
DM me a pic/story of your daughter/granddaughter/sister/niece/etc. getting buckets or cheering on the Hawks!

Locker rooms & other basic amenities are the tip of the iceberg when it comes to disparities between a woman’s experience & a man’s experience working in sports.
We must not simply “hire women”, but ensure that the structures & policies are built and enforced with women in mind.
Daughters. Mothers. Friends. Athletes. Rockstars. Teachers. Coaches. Doctors. Astronauts. Engineers. Politicians. Scientists. Creators. Storytellers. Entrepreneurs. NBA CHAMPIONS. And more...
Women are multifaceted.
Women are everywhere.
Women are everything.
The most impactful educators aren’t simply subject matter experts, but also intentional teachers that:
- promote critical thinking (‘what do you see?’)
- make learning fun & engaging
- create safe spaces to ask questions & make mistakes
Why should coaches be viewed differently?
Kerr could’ve been closed, defensive, & threatened by Draymond’s feedback. Instead, he was open, curious, & willing to learn.
We need more leaders leading in this way, creating safe spaces for these conversations to happen.
The cameras caught a pretty animated Steve Kerr fist pump tonight. Kerr said it came after Draymond Green told him he was pouting too much in the first half. Wanted to change his energy.

(1) I’ve never believed that “data” and “feel” should act independently of (or against) 1 another. Data should not solely be used for surveillance - rather, it should be carefully woven into the fabric of each decision, each consideration. In other words, “the numbers” don’t say-

chatting about how far we’ve come in the 🏀 world using tech & data-driven insights to uncover an edge in many areas - & more importantly, discussing areas we can still go.
Excited to see this evolution continue to impact everyone in/around the game I love!
Loved the end of game coaching decisions by BOS.
1) Pursuing a layup (“good” 2for1) down 3 with 40s
2) Sending a double-team to opponent’s most threatening player down 1 on last D possession
3) Not calling timeout down 1 with 12s

LOL so we’ve gone from “you’re not a sportscaster, you’re just a Black woman” to “you’re not a Black woman, you’re just a sportscaster” 😂😂😂

Believe it or not, this is just a sample of the women representing the basketball operations side of the NBA/WNBA/G-League. What an awesome time I had getting to know these incredibly inspiring, intelligent, and fearless ladies.

I love talking to coaches about how to better structure their practices & training sessions in order to slow their athletes' rate of forgetting.

for founding the Global Women In Basketball Coaching Network and organizing these webinars!
Many NBA teams didn’t get charter flights until the early 90’s (45+ years after the league was founded). The NBA as a league didn’t start growing exponentially until its 4th decade.
The WNBA just began its 28th season.
Incredible growth in such a short amount of time.
WNBA is on the precipice of announcing charter travel for games “as soon as we can get the planes in place,” commissioner Cathy Englebert tells sports editors at league meeting.

I strongly believe the narratives & the language around “toughness” needs to change - and that body awareness, recovery, and injury prevention education should be encouraged & prioritized for athletes WELL BEFORE they reach the pro level (because remember, 98% of them never do.)

Have really enjoyed reading
@SethPartnow
’s new book.
His thoughts on where to take ‘analytics’ next especially resonates w/ me, including:
- player development
- measuring decision-making
- audio (measuring communication)
- people analytics (evaluating intra/interpersonal EQ)
If you are ever feeling stuck or deflated, put yourself in a position & give yourself an angle to see how far you've come. You're a rockstar. Keep going.

“Yes, I brought a unique perspective - as a woman, as a coach, as a former player - to the sport. But empathy, the ability to play a game in someone else’s cleats, is neither a uniquely female nor male trait; it is a leadership trait. Period.”

Look - end of game management is TOUGH. Like, should almost be an assistant’s sole responsibility. So many factors & probabilities to consider & act upon in very little time. But it matters.
Loved this conversation at last Fall’s

conference about “the next big thing” in sports tech & analytics. I have my thoughts 💭 what are yours?
Alongside providing student-athletes with more practical & accessible mental health resources, the
@NCAA
must put more energy into deconstructing the environments that student-athletes are expected to operate (& perform) within & understanding why many do not feel safe/supported.
100%. If I were interviewing for a HC, I would spend FAR more time learning about things like a candidates's management style, conflict resolution philosophies, understanding of behavioral psychology, & level of self-awareness vs. their strategies on how to attack a zone press.
@brittni__d
@LRowlandData
I think you can add, in generalized terms, ACs are/can be specialists: guard coach, recruiting coordinator, video, etc., whereas HC must be generalists because they’re involved with everything and create the philosophy/standards for every part of the program.
