@LarryPanozzo @perrymetzger @theojaffee "the comparative advantage humans with jobs involving manual labor will still temporarily have over AI & robotics" Sorry, but you are completely confusing comparative advantage and absolute advantage. Paste your quote above into GPT; it diagnoses it quite well.

@MiddleOfMayhem @michaelshermer Per @geraldposner in Case Closed, that was likely from the 1st shot c. Z160.

@perrymetzger @tegmark It's a fascinating case study for the mistake of anthropomorphizing AI. Just replace "U3" with "the Anti-Christ" or "the Illuminati" or "the global smartphone hive mind". It hallucinates monolithic agency where none exists.

@TamarHaspel This! Alas, nutrition discourse is hobbled by the cognitive biases of people who * ignore effect magnitudes in a quest for silver bullets, and * have an Amish/puritanical disgust for anything modern or pleasurable.

@robinhanson Go to Dealy Plaza. Stand where Zapruder stood. He would have seen any grassy knoll shooter. And read Case Closed by @geraldposner. Any serious discourse on this case must begin by engaging this text.

Unless this someone gets hooked or reversed, I predict this will within ten years be widely seen as unexpectedly successful.
I can’t believe it - after years of advocacy, exclusionary zoning has ended in Cambridge. We just passed the single most comprehensive rezoning in the US—legalizing multifamily housing up to 6 stories citywide in a Paris style Here’s the details 🧵

@friederrrr @DimitrisPapail @mbalunovic @ni_jovanovic @GaryMarcus should call this the "No. 2 Pencil Rut", where LLMs are saturating exams instead of being evaluated on productive work.
It's time for AI to graduate from academic problems solved with a No. 2 pencil, and get a grownup job. Quiz evals are done. HackerRank interviews are done. Start assessing AGI on economic evals like these:

@So8res True for the first two. The latter two are post-Roman titles meaning "Caesar". Similar to "palace", which is derived from the Palatine hill in Rome, where the emperor lived.

@joshua_clymer Seems like the usual anthropomorphizing mistake, assuming all U3 copies could/would conspire without us noticing. What is the best argument that this will happen? What is the best empirical evidence that anything like this has occurred?

@GrantSlatton @TheZvi @ESYudkowsky @MTabarrok @jonatanpallesen @MatthewJBar A min wage of $2/day (1800s child coal miner in 2025 $) wouldn't cause unemployment today. A wage floor only causes unemployment for those whose marginal product is less than the floor. @MTabarrok's argument implies human marginal product will be >100W.

@dwarkesh_sp Significant novel human insights are needles in the vast haystack of banal thoughts. You can't just prompt them from humans or AI. To generate & surface them requires a huge search space and institutional/social incentives. Need an AI civilization.

@diegocaleiro @RemindMe_OfThis Doomers over-index on splashy recent advances in genAI. A brilliant neural net outsmarting humanity would be like a brilliant neuron outsmarting a brain. It can only work if a part emulates the whole, e.g. via a virtual civilization, perhaps needing physical feedback/friction.
