@IvisonJ @tylermeredith But it is poor analysis. $21.1 B of the 2023-24 deficit is clearly one time as outlined in the document.

@MikePMoffatt Here is the same table, including the USA . (BTW . why was that excluded?) Canada is ahead of the USA in every age catagory. So. I gotta ask. who is neglecting the data?

@mikalskuterud As a current academic and previous public servant, the premise is correct. The reason is simply that weighing in on policy matters either isn't interesting or does not help them get ahead in the academic world.

@stephenfgordon What Stephen said. Thier work is getting so bad that the office is losing any shred of credibility they have left.

@tylermeredith Haven't you heard. GDP is life. 😉 or a useful but massively over-rated statistic.

@spaikin @mattgurney Sich sad news. My parents had the kitchen radio glued to 900 CMHL when i was a kid. Local news weather and - most importantly - Tiger-Cats Football!.

@priorconfirmed @tylermeredith It goes back to the MacDonald Commission of the mid 1980s. Maybe that is why I find it so boring . :).

@jm_mcgrath It's an important finding, and a fairly intuitive answer to our alleged productivity crisis.

@CBCQueensPark @BlueJays I'm left handed and write right handed so don't find this totally surprising. Probably unusual to use a different hand for different things. Bet there is a term for that.

@MikePMoffatt Ignoring it is kinda harsh. but to your point, the gap between old and young is a common problem we share with the US, UK and a few others.

@maxfawcett @LindsayTedds Absolutely agree. I led similar work during my time with the province of Ontario and am quite disappointed by the quality of some PBO analysis and the corresponding explanations.

@tylermeredith Gotta ask. total revenue. own source revenue or tax revenue? I'd exclude fed transfers.

@AlexUsherHESA Probably the best denominator is hours worked. Regardless, there are issues with both the numerator and denominator of those calculations.

@KenBoessenkool There is a pretense that AGs are politically neutral. Increasingly, they have become attention seeking attack dogs.

@cathyacrowe @jeffreybgray How are they supposed to get a job when the unemployment rate is its highest in 8 years?.

@mikalskuterud I guess that is up to the reader. The article does say GDP is not irrelevant, but it shouldn’t be the only yardstick. A focus on incomes over GDP would be a good first step.

@MikePMoffatt With the right data on international students, employment and wages a calculation of gdp per capita with and without this population would be interesting.

@trevortombe At least taxpayers in the rest of the country won't be paying for a tax break in Ontario.

@andrew_leach On the plus side, if it were as bad as their work on carbon pricing or EV subsidies, it would just create disinformation.

@MikePMoffatt Hmm. The LTT rates have not materially changed over that time period. The government is simply benefitting from the rising resale $ (price and quantity). Also, a chunk of this is commercial property.
