This is a general halberd design. The spear tip is more effective at piercing armor than a mace. The mace can crush and bludgeon but generally requires multiple hits to accomplish that.
Halberd's reach and piercing capabilities are solid versus armor.

Scale does impact some of it but there were some details on Zyra's costume that are absolutely fantastic craftsmanship. The scalework and accompanying facial pieces are very well done. I can understand why cosplay judges went with Zyra's if you're having to pour over details.
