WashU Law, Tulane grad, New Orleans and St. Louis sports fanatic, neuroscience and music nerd, amateur cook and marathon runner in a delicate balancing act.
So thankful for all the danger that Westlaw has protected me from by logging me out every 10 minutes. Someone could have snuck up and learned the 9th Circuit’s standard for abuse of discretion while my back was turned.
Hi I'm Blaine a 2L at WashU. I'm interested in patent and IP law with a background in neuroscience. I've been struggling to find many connections in the field so I wanted to put this out here to see if anyone would be willing to chat about their work

Registering for spring 3L classes is an intense battle between wow this is my last chance to learn cool new things and wow law school is exhausting and I only really need to take 1 class.
Gibson Hall: Randall Gibson was a brigadier general in the CSA who was thankfully terrible at his job, losing every single battle and campaign he was in charge of in his fight to uphold slavery. The View from Gibson was not one to emulate or celebrate.
There is no reason to continue to memorialize a bunch of men who didn't believe that members of the Tulane and New Orleans communities were equally human. There are innumerable people from Tulane and New Orleans that have made the world better.
Follow the lead of schools like LSU and Clemson and change the names of buildings dedicated to monsters. It's not erasing history it's putting them in the place they actually belong.
@TUFitts
@Tulane
Getting eliminated from the moot court competition the first day then realizing it means I get to go to the Smithsonian and explore DC on the school’s dime.
People like Anna Epps or Andrew Schally deserve to be honored. Not a bunch of racist assholes who just threw some money at the university. Tulane needs to do better at so many things but one of the simplest is to not memorialize these terrible people anymore.
Tilton Memorial Hall: Frederick W. Tilton was a slave owning Confederate supporter who went so far as to travel all the way to England to attempt to buy weapons for the CSA until Gen. Butler (not of dorm name) captured New Orleans and seized Tilton's property.
It’s weird to think that I’ll probably be in the midst of bar prep hell a year from now. It’s like the law school version of knowing the day you will die.
Hebert Hall: F. Edward Hébert was a staunch segregationist during his 36 years in Congress, signing the Southern Manifesto in opposition to the Supreme Court's ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. He proclaimed he was in a "war against Civil Rights".
Paul Tulane was the largest Confederate donor in New Orleans and donated post war to erect a Confederate monument in the Greenwood Cemetery but I don't think that that name is in contention for change unless University of Louisiana opens back up.
Howard-Tilton Memorial Library: Charles T. Howard maintained a lie that he fought in the Tennessee militia because that's something he saw as a positive thing to lie about and made his fortune bribing the Louisiana legislature to let him run a lottery.
This is not a novel discussion. In 2017 led by Sonali Chadha, Juharah Worku, and Shahamat Uddin USG passed legislation calling for Hebert Hall to be renamed. Administration has not done so.
Got immense respect for Coach Fritz what he’s done at Tulane and how he’s been a genuinely wonderful person in the community. Probably deserves a statue outside Yulman once he retires. But football is a sport for haters so I hope Houston goes 0-12 every year.
I hate when Word puts the little blue lines for conciseness when I'm quoting legal standards. Like I get that "actually innocent" shouldn't be any different then "innocent" but your beef is with Sandra Day O'Connor not me.
I don’t know if it’s just exhaustion or the knowledge that another test waits at the end of the summer but I thought I’d feel more submitting the last exam of law school. Just feels anticlimactic.
Just accepted an offer to do patent work this summer! Thanks to everyone on here who gave me advice and support through the whole 2L job search, it was deeply appreciated.
@janecoaston
My dad was an extra in this and he’s so excited to watch because he doesn’t know any of the story and I’m pretty sure thinks it’s an inspirational sports movie and I hate to break it to him.
This is a very first world football team problem, the kind of problem that Tulane has been dreaming of having for years but come on
@AP_Top25
use the correct logo. The people demand the Top 25 Angry Wave.
How do Tulane and Loyola have different ratings for "Best College City"? Like yeah Princeton Reviews rankings are kind of a scam but does being on the wrong side of Freret really count for -7 places?
Doubtful that Tulane or LSU’s will get to 6 wins this year so please give us the post season Battle for the Rag in an abandoned parking lot in Houma. It’s what both teams and Lousiana deserve.
I asked Brian Kelly about his comments on the difference in priorities between
#LSU
and Notre Dame in an ESPN interview, which drew immediate backlash. Now, he says academic excellence is part of what drew him to LSU

Found out about the amazing Chuck E. Cheese patriotic song “Oh I Think My Pride is Showing Again” from
@ShutdownFullcas
during a con law study break and wow the mouse takes a extremely expansive view on substantive due process.
Got a offer for a really exciting summer position but it’ll involve a lot of driving around rural Missouri so basically the question is how do I convince my boss to let me bring my dog to work. Need a roadtrip buddy.

Like I understand you're still mad that JBE whooped you but could you do it without pedaling crackpot conspiracies from fake doctors and actually try to stop a growing pandemic that's already killed twice as many Louisiana's as Katrina.
We're going over a case in Ethics tomorrow from the Eastern District of Louisiana with a Babineaux as the plaintiff and I am scared to hear how my classmates pronounce it.
Finally made the connection when law people on Twitter talk about working at Costco. Until now I just thought the in house job at actual Costco was brutal. Gotta keep those hot dog prices down.
Just wanted to thank everyone who's shared this or messaged me! I deeply appreciate the willingness of the LawTwitter community to help out and hope I can do the same for others when I get the opportunity. Y'all are all wonderful people making the legal world a better place.
Professors are always harping about not making formatting errors because the lack of care and attention casts doubt on your whole argument and then print a book with a bunch of “click here” hyperlinks
The person who previously had my Ethics textbook answered every single multiple choice question in the book incorrectly in pen and I cannot think of anything more unethical.
I feel like I’m supposed to have 3LOL disease by now but instead it’s choosing classes anxiety. I’m never gonna get a chance to take random classes again and what if it turns out I actually would have loved some random field like bankruptcy. 15 credits only goes so far.
The Mississippi State coach rode out on the field on an ATV and when asked why said “This is a life lesson” and 2 hours later I’m still trying to figure out what lesson he could be teaching.
@TulaneHistory
Is this official or are y'all going rogue? Either way glad that the building has a name of someone that those inside it can respect and look up to.
This is the same treatment Derrius got at Catholic. Admin would put up with all his bad behavior because he looked like the second coming of Warick Dunn minus all the off the field character that made Warick Dunn the man he became.
She says "the coach" at LSU (presumably Orgeron) called her after she reported it to the school and said "please forgive him because he's a troubled child." She requested he not be allowed to play in the Citrus bowl but Ausberry and Segar later told her "that would never happen"
@steve_vladeck
I like 11:59 deadlines to not take away time from people who are working, have kids, etc. things that prevent them from working during the day. It’s only a couple hours between 5 and 12 but when you’re finishing an assignment that can feel like a huge difference.
Always forget what the D in J.D. stands for as evidenced by my stammering when the lady at the bookstore asked if I needed "bachelor, master, or doctorate" regalia.

Louisiana's electoral system requires a simple majority to win. So everyone running for the seat is on the ballot on Nov 3rd and then in the likely case that no one gets over 50% of the vote there is another election on Dec 5th between the top 2 of the Nov 3rd election.
Got turned down for a job I really hoped for after I though the callback went really well so I apologize in advance to the tub of ice cream in my freezer. You had a good run sitting next to the dumplings but your watch has ended.
