I'm definitely in disbelief, but this is incredible, and an absolute honour. No organization had more influence on my baseball career than
@baseballcanada
and no individual has had more significance in my baseball life than
@elliottbaseball
, and I couldn't be prouder.🇨🇦❤️
Baseball Canada is thrilled to announce that London, Ontario’s Alexis Brudnicki (

Trevor Bauer was not cleared of wrongdoing. He was not "set up" or "kicked out" of Major League Baseball. A court found that Bauer engaged in acts with an unconscious person. The law does not recognize an unconscious person’s advance consent to rape.
I’m extremely excited to share news that I’ll be starting a new job with
@MLB
next month! I’m incredibly grateful for the people & organizations that have helped me piece the puzzle together forever but after nine years, am very happy to start my first full-time job in baseball.
When the
#BlueJays
increased minor league salaries by 50% this year, they felt it was a small gesture. But for the players, it was incredibly impactful and something they hope to see other clubs do:
I’m 35 today (big yikes!), and what a doozy of a year 34 was. I left baseball (or so I thought), I started law school, I ran another marathon, I paid off my car, and I gained a real opportunity to advocate for the change I want to see and the change I want to be a part of.
I thought I left baseball forever when I came to
@MizzouLaw
but then I proposed a set of policies to MLB hoping to leave the game better than I experienced. As it turns out MLB’s going to implement them & I’ll be working in the commissioner’s office next summer so here’s to 35 🥳
I love baseball, the game. But baseball, the industry, I've found difficult of late. The responses to racism and sexism are not enough, people are commodified, public labour disputes, the decimation of the minor leagues, literally everything Kevin Mather said. It's all bad.
After we both spoke at a
@PitchTalks
event a couple years ago, I told Zaun that I was offended by his comments, the way he viewed and talked about women in the industry, and on and on. This certainly isn’t something that hasn’t been raised before.
Zaun says this in one breath: "In the past, when brought to my attention that I demonstrated poor judgement or language and gave offence, I sought to change my behaviour and apologize for any hurt caused.”
Then, he says, last week’s complaints were "never raised before."
I just hit send on my final two stories for MLB dot com, making my departure officially official. I'm grateful to MLB for giving me my first full-time opportunity in the game after nearly a decade of being a struggling freelancer/contractor/dreamer.
Tacos, cheese balls, country music, Netflix, cartoons, smiles! On the diverse

Proud to share that yesterday, my doctoral dissertation in practice was officially published! 🥳 It took four years (the last two while in law school), but I will officially be a(n academic) doctor after convocation in October. For your reading pleasure:
When I read the Jared Porter story, I began experiencing insomnia.
When I read the first Mickey Callaway story, I deactivated Twitter.
I returned last week after some (not enough) reflection and work with my therapist on the organizational culture of baseball, and here we are.
Ryan Dempster: “I remember when I first showed up at spring training and all the guys were like, ‘Wow, you’re from Canada?! What’s that like?’ And I said, ‘Well, it’s different. There’s the pause in the middle of the game for the polar bears to run through.’”
I'm not completely leaving yet, either. But more on that later. The big news for now is that I'm headed to law school in the fall. I'll be 34 when I start and hopefully 37 when I finish, but I want to be the change I hope to see in the world, and that's how I aim to do it.
“He’s like the older brother who’s nice, not the one who beats you up.“
On sidelined
#BlueJays
infielder Devon Travis and the remarkable impact he continues to have on the organization:
Because of my own personal experiences, and mostly following up
@minakimes
&
@JeffPassan
's January story about Jared Porter, I shifted my doctoral focus to study the lack of sufficient structures in baseball to combat the power imbalance, affecting reporting of sexual harassment.
Super pumped and honoured to be part of an all-female baseball panel, and with a female moderator, the first I’ve heard of north of the border! 🇨🇦 Excited to chat with and hear from

Didn’t want to tell too many people I was doing this race because I wasn’t sure I’d survive, but now that I have I’d like to ANNOUNCE TO THE WORLD THAT I FINISHED THE IRONMAN 70.3 ATLANTIC CITY!

It is amazing and so encouraging to see

trending. As someone who hasn’t had the support of their father, raised by the best mom in the world who grew up without her own dad, there’s absolutely nothing I want more for future generations of girls than what I didn’t have.
After being sidelined from all activity, MLB clubs have been given permission to engage in remote scouting activities. They can now communicate electronically from home & ask players to complete assessments from their locations. In-person activities still not allowed, of course.
I can’t put into words how grateful I am to have been able to contribute (anything and everything I ever wanted to or could write) to this site, and to get to work with
@elliottbaseball
and
@coopincanada
, and to read these kind words from them. <3
Before I head to law school, I'm very excited for the chance to turn the clock back 10 years & rejoin the Canadian-started company that was home to my first baseball internship. I'm thrilled to help cover the draft with
@CarlosACollazo
& return to the amateur side of the game! 😊
We are THRILLED to have
@baseballexis
joining our team this spring.
Alexis will contribute to our ever-expanding MLB Draft coverage as well as all of our prospect coverage & analysis 😎
Welcome aboard 🙌
My way of wishing you a

is to share this incredibly nervous version of me (not unusual) singing the anthem from the best place to be on our country’s birthday! 🇨🇦
Veronica Alvarez is head coach of
@USABaseball
's women's national team, she's been a guest coach with the
@Athletics

#HispanicHeritageMonth
feature is her passion:
#Rangers
infielder Rougned Odor loves that
#BlueJays
fans boo him in Toronto, because the intensity and enthusiasm of the crowds remind him of playing back at home in Venezuela.
I got a chance to sit down with
#BlueJays
president & CEO
@MarkShapiro
and his son
@ShapiroCaden
, to talk about the game through their unique father-son lens, what they’ve learned about the Canadian baseball community, being portrayed in Moneyball & more:
Taking a tiny break from the

beat to act as the press officer for

’s Women’s National Team at the

qualifier in Aguascalientes, and couldn’t be more proud to accompany this amazing group of women representing the best country in the world. 🇨🇦
Most days,
#BlueJays
manager Charlie Montoyo runs four or five miles before games. I asked the skipper if I could join him for his jaunt one day and write about it, and after he said, "Of course! Anytime!" we set out on the Pinellas Trail yesterday:
Team Canada opens its Olympic qualifying tournament in West Palm Beach, Florida with a 7-0 combined no-hitter over Colombia. Andrew Albers is nearly perfect for seven, and an inning each from Brendan McGuigan and Ben Onysho get it done. Jacob Robson drives in three at the dish.🇨🇦
Fellas, sports ain’t going away ever. Start learning that women absolutely love them and play them incredibly well or find a way to accept the fact that ladies do not exist to conform to your lifestyle and do not need to like everything you like. Best of luck being the latter.
Congratulations to
@baseballcanada
’s Women’s National Team on a BRONZE MEDAL at this year’s

World Cup! Not only is this team amazing and full of incredible women, many of them are near and dear to my ❤️, after I got to spend (a very short) time with them four years ago.

I should mention the actual position is as MLB’s hybrid producer/reporter in Toronto so my home base will be the Blue Jays and you’ll never be rid of my Canadian content! 🇨🇦
In his return to Toronto,
#Giants
Kevin Pillar listed one of his proudest accomplishments as, "Revitalizing baseball in Canada, and just seeing the impact that the success that the team in 2015 and 2016 had on the youth movement of baseball across Canada.”
I’ve had the privilege of writing countless words about Amanda Asay for the last decade and there just don’t seem to be any good enough anymore. She made everyone around her better, including me, and I’m so grateful for that and so devastated by this immense loss. 💔
The Baseball Canada family is grieving following the tragic passing of longtime Women’s National Team member Amanda Asay.
Our hearts and thoughts are with Amanda’s family at this truly difficult time.

Jacob Waguespack earned his first big league win in his second appearance for the

I love baseball, the game. I do not love baseball, the industry. The
#WorldBaseballClassic
is about the game. If an electrician from Czech or a farmer from Canada throws more balls than strikes, he’s still passionate about the game and representing his country. It’s inspiring.
For this week’s
#BlueJays
@MLBPipeline
feature, I got to talk to new acquisition and No. 5 prospect Anthony Kay, who might still be in shock over the trade, and has learned a lot of very important information about Canada from his newest supporters:
Also these photos are from a series that will henceforth be called “In Vlad’s Shadow,” where I hover in the background of pics of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Highlight of the press conference with Shun Yamaguchi was when the
#BlueJays
hurler was asked why he chose baseball instead of following his dad's sumo wrestling footsteps & he said, "I started thinking about showing my butt in the public, so as I got older, I think that's why."
About last night, I’m super grateful to
@baseballcanada
for the emcee opportunity at its inaugural banquet & fundraiser for the WNT! It was an honour to acknowledge some of the amazing people in the program & share a stage with
@AAGPBL
legends Maybelle Blair & Shirley Burkovich
It certainly wasn’t a sprint, and it most definitely WAS a marathon.
I’m not going to say it was the best idea I ever had, but I’m glad to have my 11th full marathon under my belt, and first in almost two years.

It definitely wasn’t my best but this weekend I did my THIRTIETH half marathon, and got this awesome medal so it felt post-worthy.

Out with my mom, brother & grandmother.
Grandma starts, “When I was in my twenties, seeing all the women I knew married at 16, 17, 18, I felt like an old maid.
She then follows with, “What do you feel like Alexis?”
It took me to 32 to realize my grandma has the sickest burns.
Ahead of Father’s Day weekend, I had the privilege of talking to

outfielders (and two of the team’s newest dads)
