this is not accurate. the thing that actually checks whether a signature is valid was not itself verified to be a trustworthy checker, so the hacker was able to substitute their own checker. the hacker noticed when they committed code fixing the bug and exploited before release.

This is just stubbornness. Having the exact risk spelled out in code is objectively better than having to make a judgement call about an opaque lender. You have to DYOR in both cases; DeFi is better because it’s transparent.
