Delighted to share that we
@WeaveGrid
have raised a Series B led by
@SalesforceVC
that's going to help us accelerate our tremendous growth! This is an historic moment for utilities, automakers, and of course drivers, in this once in a century transition to
#ElectricVehicles
🚘⚡Electric Vehicles are the future!⚡🚘
Learn how
@WeaveGrid
solves the power grid challenges facing utilities and automakers and why we’re leading their Series B ➡️
Congrats
@apoorv_bh89
, John Taggart + team! 🎉
This is pretty insane.
@RailMinIndia
has done incredible work in electrifying the Indian Railways over the last few years. It’s gone from 24% in 2000 to 90% this year! And as India’s energy keeps getting cleaner, this’ll be incredible for emissions!
I’m tired of this. Skilled workers like me have done nothing but create more value & jobs for this country. And this is the treatment. Some day the US will remember that its entire modern existence has depended on the sweat of immigrants. So much for being the party of business.
JUST IN: President Trump plans to sign an executive order extending to January a pause on issuing “green cards” to new immigrants -- and will also halt temporary work visas for skilled workers, managers and au pairs in the H-1B, H-4, H-2B, L-1 and J categories.
Thanks to the amazing
@AkshatRathi
over at
@business
@climate
we'd like to share some exciting news about
@WeaveGrid
, our Series A financing, and how we're working on furthering a decarbonized transportation & energy future...1/12
My take on the
@IPCC_CH
report:
Folks working on
#climate
solutions in any capacity - get back to work. We’re making an impact.
Folks not working on climate solutions - no better time than now.
I’m not going to obsess over doomerism. I don’t have that luxury and neither do you
Holy shit this might be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever seen. The chemical engineer in me is SCREAMING. I can’t even. THIS IS WHY YOU CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS CAUSE THEN YOU MAKE STUPID VIDEOS LIKE THIS. Ok I’m done.
Wow it’s like we could call this happening and like this funny thing called immigration could fix it…meanwhile 10,000 H-1Bs just left to Canada cause it’s so much less crappy to go through the process there.
All the major battery factories are about to go through the same
I interrupt my usual
#energy
programming to say...THIS. IS. BAD. This kind of thing will literally lead to the fall of the US college system as
@Noahpinion
has talked about. I started a company on my OPT and have already created multiple high paying AMERICAN JOBS. This is awful.
Pretty wild day yesterday to have the chance to debrief
@BillGates
on the amazing work we’re doing
@WeaveGrid
with our utility & automotive partners
@Edison_Electric
. He was really engaged on what impacts EVs create on the grid especially DISTRIBUTION & how DISCO 🪩can solve it!
Ahh America. What a joke of an immigration system. Chatting with my lawyer, I found out that even for an alien of extraordinary ability green card (I’m on the visa equivalent already) it’ll take me at least 4 years cause I was born in India.
@Noahpinion
here’s another one for you
I want to make sure everyone understands this. 50% aka half of the emissions reductions came from energy efficiency and the policies and technologies that enabled it. The true unsung hero of the fight against climate change.
US power sector CO2 emissions have declined 28% since 2005, and are now at the lowest level since 1987.
About 75% of the decrease in power sector CO2 emissions comes from energy efficiency + renewable energy. Only 25% from switching coal -> natural gas.
Yup.
@debarghya_das
is exactly right. After 15+ years of being in the US, creating a pretty incredible company, 4 degrees, and hiring many amazing people, I’m going to be waiting indefinitely 🫠. Oh I’m also an expert on several topics of national security…whomp whomp
There's a real possibility that Indians of extraordinary ability must wait indefinitely to get a US green card.
If the huge spike in applicants continues, when we get back to pre-pandemic EB-1 issue rates, demand far exceeds supply.
🇺🇸 does not want 🇮🇳 of extraordinary ability!
Woah. It’s happening. All these years later we’re finally seeing Na ion batteries at density enough. Apparently Prussian blue in there too. Well well. This race is just getting started. Comparable density to LFP means LFG!!!
Our first sodium-ion battery will power the Chery EV models. The award-winning technology breaks the bottleneck of limited raw materials and provides a cost-effective solution.
⚡️⚡️⚡️ HI TWITTER ⚡️⚡️⚡️
I’m hiring a Chief Of Staff
@WeaveGrid
!!! Yes, this role has to (sadly) work closely with me…I’m not that bad, I promise! Come scale up decarbonization across
#energy
&
#EVs
with us!
We’re also hiring across a bunch of roles!
This is the hellhole that I’m about to be in. Every year I have to keep justifying why I’m an expert in my field and renewing my visa and will eventually get stuck in a place where I can’t see my family, because USCIS lacks the institutional capacity to stamp a bunch of pasaports
1/9 Indians in the US on a work visa can't go home. There’s NO appointments.
The now ~200k H-1B Telegram group is growing by 13,000 per month.
Even with ~$40m in fees, the 5 VACs process ~10,000 a month. The next availability is ~2024!
Here’s 6 stories from hurting families:
I’m not sure I’m ready to share my
#ClimateWeekNYC
reflections yet (mostly not good - it’s wayyyy too much) but something that it forced me to finally say out loud is that I’ve never ever liked the term “climatetech”
The job at hand is to decarbonize the WHOLE global economy 1/
Someone asked me to list some hobbies today, and I realized that reading
#energy
and
#climate
reports and papers is what I’ve been doing in my free time. Shit. I think I need hobbies.
So I turn 30 today (slight panic), but I’m going to use this moment to share that CO2 was at 351.49 ppm in 11/89 & is now at 410.07 ppm (much more panic).
Great 3 decades with much to be thankful for, but
#energytwitter
&

let’s try to fix this before I’m 50? Kthx
Great question. Transformer manufacturing is basically not a free market thang. Often captured deeply by incumbents and with little innovation since Thomas Edison’s time and SOME OF US HAVE BEEN SCREAMING THAT WE NEED TO FIX THIS
My friend Ethan, who’s an incredible mechanical and nuclear engineer, is building an open source ventilator to support the impending shortage that’s going to happen across the world. Please help him!
Absolutely delighted to announce
@WeaveGrid
’s partnership with
@SouthernCompany
on enabling large scale electrification across Georgia & Alabama! Managing EVs to enable grid benefits is critical to affordability, reliability & decarbonization
#VPPs
This is insanely bad. We have no resiliency in our systems. Terrible heat levels are breaking down parts of India’s power system. This is why we need climate solutions NOW.
India is facing WEEKS of blackouts as a blistering heat wave fuels record power demand and coal stockpiles shrink 🇮🇳🚨
🪨 Coal production has failed to keep pace with demand
⚡ Electricity outages and curbs have spread across more than half of all states
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen from
@HarrisVotes
- 24 hour voting is democracy at its finest. No matter what job you work, you can still work. Well done!!
24-Hour Voting at eight locations on 10/29 is getting all of the attention, don't forget that we have extended hours on Tuesday and Wednesday as well! ALL Voting Centers will be open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. 10/27 and 10/28.

Truthfully, this is one of those moments (the last few weeks) that will go down in history as part of the series of moments when electrification really took off in North America

Yesterday my Nani (maternal grandma) passed away in India. She lived a great life & I’m grateful for all of my time spent with her. ❤️❤️
However, her health has been ailing for a few weeks & I’ve been tormented that traveling to India would subject me to the US’ travel ban… 1/
Honestly the number of people approaching me from oil & gas wanting to transition ACROSS ALL age groups is becoming a deluge! I can’t handle personalizing advice for so many folks. Halp? Ideas?

Overnight a new fast track visa category for afghans has been created. Frankly I’m skeptical that the US will follow (perhaps my jaded view from US immigration)
My biggest fear is we waste a bunch of money on chargers without understanding how people actually behave and forget that maintaining infrastructure is as important as building it
My greatest fear for the EV $$$ in the infrastructure bills is that we install a bunch of slow L2 chargers in public places instead of making sure there is a well identified fast charger at every highway exit and within ~xx miles of most Americans. Better if I can get coffee too
@Noahpinion
As someone who’s been on 2 F-1 visas, OPT, H-1B and now an O-1 in 11 years of living here, earning four degrees and being a productive member of society, let me know if you need me to rant to you about the broken legal immigration system.
"It has become clear that a competent, well-staffed, efficient bureaucracy is key to a nation’s ability to meet major threats."
This speaks to both

A legend in the battery and solid state communities.
100 years - may all of us give to the world even a tenth of what Prof Goodenough did in his 100 years. RIP.
Sad to hear the news of the passing of my colleague John Goodenough, who changed the world with his significant improvement of RAM (random access memory) and Lithium Ion batteries.
Feeling pretty inspired seeing all these incredible

folks going to the government to serve. Let some of us stragglers (and non citizens) know how we can help!
It was an absolute honor to meet

@WeaveGrid
. I was delighted to hear
@VP
‘s passion for clean energy & innovation - something we’re at the forefront of! Thank you for the wonderful opportunity.
Under our Administration, AA & NHPI entrepreneurship has grown at the fastest rate in over a decade.
I visited San Francisco to discuss the historic investments we are making to support this growth, including $12 billion in community banks to increase access to capital.
I love this story so much, but before folks get overly jubilant “this is why America is amazing” the one thing I want to caution is that several members of the the American team are NOT currently Americans because they’re stuck in the asinine immigration *hell* that we have here
Finally getting around to reading this truly excellent post from
@Noahpinion
on how the US is struggling to build things.
Another critical challenge though is to fix the abysmal immigration process in order to have the talent to “build” as
@AlecStapp
often talks about
The U.S. can't build housing. Or transit. Or solar power. Or transmission lines. Or semiconductor fabs.
We are the Build-Nothing Country.
And this needs to change, and it needs to change fast.
This is bad. ICE just told students here on student visas that if their school is going online-only this fall, the students must depart the United States and cannot remain through the fall semester.
Four years ago today, John & I built up enough conviction to start
@WeaveGrid
Even back then, I remember us talking about "how do we attract the best talent to solve these hairy problems in climate?"
And now we're doing it, as I say in
@washingtonpost
Bloom Energy and Samsung Heavy Industries are working together to develop fuel cell-powered ships, making strides toward sustainability for marine shipping:

Wow. New paper shows that excess solar power production in California ALONE could provide enough energy to sequester 1 million tons of CO2 via DAC currently and between 20-140 million tons between 2030-2050

THE GRID IS MORE THAN JUST GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION. BELIEVE IT OR NOT THERE’S ALSO THIS PIECE CALLED DISTRIBUTION. IT’S ALSO HELLA IMPORTANT. KIND OF LIKE THE GUY CHECKING TICKETS AT THE FRONT - IT MAKES SURE WE GET TO THE FRONT MOSH PIT
“Electric cars are quieter, more efficient, less polluting and easier to maintain and generally even accelerate more quickly than their gas counterparts,”
@fmanjoo
writes. “But boy, can they be dull.”
I’ve been conducting a LOT of interviews this week, and the imposter syndrome has been way too real...Definitely amazed by how many people who are smarter and more talented than me want to be in the climate sector and work with us.
Any advice founders?
“You could have all the renewable energy in the world. But if you don’t have the transmission lines, you have nothing,” Arnold Schwarzenegger once said.
Nobody likes looking at power lines, but they could be key to confronting climate change. My latest:
