The media instigates hate by asking if queer people deserve to live. The question is violent, folks respond out of fear. This man refused to be afraid and spoke his truth. Everyone deserves to live. The reporter did not expect that because he came prepared to extend violence.

As someone whose primary school curriculum included the idea that colonialism benefited the nation, I am intimately familiar with the consequences of this discourse re slavery. The goal is to produce a populace so far disconnected from itself they long for days of colonial rule.

I see efforts to classify slavery as a benefit to Black Americans similarly. The goal is to discount the violence of slavery & its ongoing effects, and instead suggest that slavery’s afterlife is the fault of Black people who haven’t internalized the benefits of being enslaved.

A few times now, I’ve seen the ɔ in twi written as ) in published works. I find that disrespectful. Twi is a language with its on letters and it is only right that when written, that orthography is followed. In my book, I made sure that Twi and Ga words were correctly written.

Ghanaian churches are the biggest drivers of homophobia in the country. AND Ghanaian churches conduct development projects that benefit many people the government ignores. So the state is silent on religious homophobia and the populace, knowing who feeds them, also remains silent

It is especially important for those of us abroad to join the fight for queer freedom in Ghana. Due to state terrorism and fear of reprisal, stakes are especially high for queer Ghanaians and allies to speak out. But we can.

That time of year when Ghanaians and other Africans return to Accra is upon us. How will orgs like @Ahaspora and @Afrochella help visitors make sense of the current political moment, including the state’s repression, police violence, and anti-LGBTIQ climate.

When the state uses your private life to threaten your livelihood it challenges your autonomy. This does not only happen to queer Ghanaians, but enforced homophobia is used to redirect anger and silence dissent. This is why queer freedom must be central to #OccupyJulorbiHouse

This claim that queer people are recruiting students is wild. It’s in the bill and…where does it come from?. Who first claimed it? Why? Who provides the funds? Why are the alleged recruiters doing this? What is the benefit for those willing to be recruited? So many questions!

LGBTQ Bill: They are setting up recruitment drives in our secondary schools. It is widespread. It's not only in Ola Girls. Now people are being paid to recruit young people to engage in the act - MP, Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam George. #Newsfile

There is a circus on Ghanaian media where journalists are shamelessly promoting their homophobic stance by asking whether the majority doesn’t have a right to live in Ghana without homosexuals. And therein these journalists let us know that they truly do not think we are human.

The goal of this violence, these harassing emails, physical and political attacks, is to silence all of us, to create conditions in which a repressive regime remains entrenched. But we who believe in freedom will not rest until it comes.

I’m sure folks are sad about this news. The important thing is that the billboards went up. It was bold and brave. It was a refusal to be cowed by the oppressive voices that will silence us. What is so offensive about calling for true freedom in a democracy? #WeAreAllGhana

Apparently, in response to queries about her hosting the lead MP on that homophobic bill in Ghana, the French ambassador has this to say. Her words demonstrate a morally bankrupt and cynical position that hides behind procedure conventions to subvert respect for all peoples.

In response to queer Ghanaians' fight to be afforded the same basic human recognition as everyone else, some people are demanding that polygamy be legalized. These people think there are saying something meaningful but are merely showing off their bigotry in broad strokes.

I wrote about how that question to the Moroccan captain helps evade sexual harassment. “the hyperfocus on whether female footballers are lesbians evades a much larger issue for players – the everyday forms of workplace sexual harassment that they face.”

One way the state gets away with oppression is by hiding behind bureaucracy, which anonymizes. But there is a judge handling this case, deciding how to execute “justice.” The circuit court judge at Ho is Roberta E. Otriso. #ReleaseAllThe21

Ask yourself why you’re afraid of being lured. What is so beautiful and enticing about queer life that it can draw you in? Is it because you see queers living in ways that affirm the music of our souls? Is this freedom alluring? It should be. Freedom is beautiful.

The global debt industry administered by the IMF and World Bank is an extension of colonialism. Citizens are packaged and sold to world economic powers while politicians and corporations take a cut. History repeats itself. Na wa for Ghanaians. Being sold at every turn.

Privileged Ghanaians love to disavow the violence that police suffer on marginalized others. Queer people have been yelling from the rooftops about their experiences of violence from police yet, based on vibes, someone claims that the police are “protecting.” This is complicity.
