Which seminary class teaches pastors to open sermons with sex jokes about women, jokes about women’s appearances + female drivers? Why are the current elders at Lakepointe called elders when they are truly cowards? Josh Howerton is not fit to lead or preach. This is disgraceful.

If a pastor holds the frequent use of his sex jokes more dear than the wellbeing of SA victims + survivors in the church he’s paid to lead, then he’s not fulfilling his job requirement to shepherd the flock. He’s doing the opposite—defiling body of Christ + dividing the church.

In retrospect, maybe all the talk about sex in sermons is more of a tell than a topic for many pastors. Predators say weird things. They test how much edginess the congregation will tolerate. They verbalize & normalize the bizarre & perverse.

There is no “demonic cancel mob”—no woke, liberal, feminist, jezebels attacking this pastor or this church. Enough with the lies about me + women who love God. “No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.” Psalms 101:7

“False equivalency” is a manipulation tactic used by #narcissists . It involves drawing comparisons between two things that are not truly comparable, in order to mislead, confuse, or downplay their own behavior. This tactic is used to shift blame, avoid responsibility, or diminish

Serious question (re: advice/“joke”) How many women would it take for men to listen to us? How many current members would it take? I’m contact with many women who are deeply hurt, including myself. If it’s all about numbers, tell me: what number it would take to get some respect?

@racheljwelcher They are common for him. And if a member in his church tries to hold him accountable, they are ignored, comments are deleted, blocked, etc. The elders and staff are silent unless someone needs help canceling their membership, then staff are swift to show them the door.

“The fallout of these MLM strategies have hurt not only friendships, but relationships within the church. ‘I’ve grown very suspicious of Christian women,’ Tanya shared. ‘I’m always aware that they could be becoming my friend only with the intent for me to become their customer.’”

For this issue of @Fathom_Mag , I wrote about the ways MLM strategies can fracture friendships both inside and outside the church. To those who shared your stories with me: thank you. You made this piece possible.

Hey “real Christian men”, “Spiritual leaders of the home”, “heads of the church,” the answer is: ONE. It should only take 1 woman in your congregation to say they were hurt by an OPINION spoken through a false mask of authority in a sermon for you to listen, apologize, + repent.

I’ve made new friends here because I spoke up about what my recent church is doing to the church body + to our community, for the sake of division and deception. Time for me to shake the dust off my feet and get back to normal content: Women who love to read books are my people.

If you’re still here, bless you! THANK YOU for listening! Josh, his staff, and the elders ARE NOT LISTENING to the women in their church, definitely not reading their Bibles or seeking healing from sexual sin in their own lives, and they aren’t done tearing our community apart…

@JoelWBerry This from 2019 is his favorite sex joke he tells regularly (but now without disclaimer or admitting he refuses to answer private rebukes via email) in front of thousands children and teens. We have had enough vulgarity and heard more than enough about the desires of his flesh.

@pmcdill @_MommyIsALawyer @howertonjosh @tx_pilgrim Are you honestly asking the women at his church? Because I am in contact with many of them and they are not ok. Neither am I. This is abhorrent behavior for a lead pastor of a multi-sit mega church engaged in missions, church-planting, and training people for ministry. Period.

Not him telling on himself, “What wise people do is love correction.” Not church leadership concealing the truth in deleted and then disabled comments. PHEW. Shine all your light, Lord.

Here, Josh Howerton explains that pastors must correct bad and ungodly women, and how important it is that all of us accept correction. (This is responding to people's criticism about an earlier clip telling women to give unrespectable men "a crown, and he'll become a king.")

@sheilagregoire I dove in on my instagram stories and saved them as “just ‘jokes’” in my highlights. Women are ANGRY at his advice (he framed it as advice), his fauxpology and his villainizing victims. It’s completely unacceptable behavior from a pastor on so many levels and is hurting so many!!

@racheljwelcher The BMI scale, from my understanding, was created and based upon white Europeans and therefore does not give a full picture of what a healthy weight means for different body types of various races and ethnicities. I focus more on my heart and organ health than my weight now.

@sheilagregoire Thank you, Sheila. The way our women have been treated since 2020 has been largely ignored by leadership. We have watched a slow and calculated elimination of women’s ministry after a swift elimination of the women’s ministry leadership team immediately with new leadership.

@KatelynBeaty When @BethMooreLPM preached at our church (first time ever a woman preached in person on stage—Priscilla Shirer taught during weekend services before but only virtually because of the shut down) women gave a standing ovation to greet her. She didn’t seek it, just received it. ❤️

As women, we have enough men in the world trying to shame our bodies and label them with words Jesus would never use. To have “preachers” like Josh Howerton and Joby Martin adding to it, in the name of God, is what is truly gross. Do not conform to the patterns of the world, men.

Breastfeeding is "just gross." Josh Howerton admits he plagiarized his apology from Joby Martin, and many have asked me what Joby Martin was apologizing for. Several of his congregants have sent me this:

This couldn’t be more clear. His words are inexcusable. And the elders, the executive team, the campus pastors, ministry leaders, etc have said nothing to defend abused women. I can see now that what they sold me packaged as “spiritual covering” was nothing more than control.

You never really know why someone loses or gains weight unless they tell you. If they don’t tell you, then it’s none of your business. And people like Ashley Judd, deep in fresh grief who appear in the public eye looking different than you would expect, are worthy of grace.

When a megachurch “preacher” regurgitates an old sex joke, frames it as advice, then gaslights tens of thousands of people about who it upsets and calls them a “demonic cancel mob”, he should not have a place of spiritual authority anymore. Women experience enough abuse already.
