We met at a bar in 2004. He was 2x divorced. I was getting divorced. After welcoming two daughters 23 mos apart, we started attending church “for the girls.” Both turned our lives over to Christ in one conversation on our back porch in 2012. Today is our 17th wedding anniversary.
We met on August 1, 2000 on a dirt road in a tiny Albanian village in Kosovo, 2 km from the Serbian border. It was fresh from the Milosevic dictatorship + genocide, and I was there to teach English to teenagers and he was there to be rebuild widows’ houses.

I dove in on my instagram stories and saved them as “just ‘jokes’” in my highlights. Women are ANGRY at his advice (he framed it as advice), his fauxpology and his villainizing victims. It’s completely unacceptable behavior from a pastor on so many levels and is hurting so many!!

The BMI scale, from my understanding, was created and based upon white Europeans and therefore does not give a full picture of what a healthy weight means for different body types of various races and ethnicities. I focus more on my heart and organ health than my weight now.

Thank you, Sheila. The way our women have been treated since 2020 has been largely ignored by leadership. We have watched a slow and calculated elimination of women’s ministry after a swift elimination of the women’s ministry leadership team immediately with new leadership.

As women, we have enough men in the world trying to shame our bodies and label them with words Jesus would never use. To have “preachers” like Josh Howerton and Joby Martin adding to it, in the name of God, is what is truly gross. Do not conform to the patterns of the world, men.
Breastfeeding is "just gross."

This couldn’t be more clear. His words are inexcusable. And the elders, the executive team, the campus pastors, ministry leaders, etc have said nothing to defend abused women. I can see now that what they sold me packaged as “spiritual covering” was nothing more than control.

When a megachurch “preacher” regurgitates an old sex joke, frames it as advice, then gaslights tens of thousands of people about who it upsets and calls them a “demonic cancel mob”, he should not have a place of spiritual authority anymore. Women experience enough abuse already.
