With the acknowledgment that my D’s weight is ‘critical’, she has been discharged from services! She can come back if she wants to engage! I really dislike the rhetoric. Her fault because she doesn’t want to recover. This upsets me so much! Left to die, but it’s her own fault! 😢

I didn’t leave teaching because of the pay. I left to improve the quality of my life. I now earn over £25K less money, my every move is not scrutinised, I feel respected as a worker & don’t feel guilty for spending time with my family. It broke my heart to leave teaching!

Unfortunately ‘engagement’ is used as a tool to gaslight patients. Services find it easier to blame the patient rather than seek to support them further. If you are mentally ill, engaging with anybody is difficult, but it’s easy for services to use it as a tool to discharge.

I don’t understand the thinking behind admitting a sufferer to an ED Unit with no psychological therapy. No therapists available at all to support patients. No wonder they are all revolving door patients. Feed them up, kick them out and give it a while and they return. 🤷♀️

Plenty of gaslighting from services today. D said that her Care Coordinator said she is ‘not engaging’ about 10 times. We live in the middle of nowhere on no bus route. How do they expect her to get to appointments? I said I would take her if they had a meeting with us both! 🧵

With a daughter, failed by MH services, about to be sent to one of these units, I actually want to cry. This illness is heartbreaking enough without making her unsafe. We need to trust that care will be given. How does this help? 😢

So, daughter discharged from SEDU with no follow up, no plan & no health checks. Trying to move to a different CMHT as they have given up on her as a SEED patient. She is struggling so much. BMI back in the 13s. Selfishly, I am exhausted with the revolving door policy.🥺

Just spent an hour with services who have basically justified my D’s discharge. In red zone for MEED. There is no offer of hospital or treatment. End of the road with a BMI of 13.3. She’s 26! Back to GP if support is needed! Apparently CTR only involved if she goes to hospital!😳

I completely agree with Hope here. Services need to stop the ‘not engaging’ comments both verbally and documented. It’s damaging and unhelpful. It also doesn’t absolve them of responsibility to find the right support and treatment for patients.
People with eating disorders who are not responding to treatment are NOT being difficult but we need to see what other treatments we can try.
With other illnesses we would try other avenues without giving up so quickly so why aren’t we doing that with eating disorders?

D emailed her blood test results by her CMHT yesterday. No commentary to go with them. She has had to interpret them herself & they don’t look great. Quite a few out of range. So much for MEED! So much for palliative care for eating disorders. Get on with it yourself!

Daughter home from ED Unit today. Far too soon, but her distress was untenable. Community said they can’t really help her anymore. Good. Let’s discharge and get on with our lives. Too much trauma caused by this shower. Not happy with me, but if I don’t advocate for her, who does?

This is a positive, but there also needs to be a

change too. My local Crisis Team’s response is to phone the Police for my anorexic daughter, who has lost all hope. It’s not the Police she needs! I just hope it’s not too late for my daughter.

I am extremely concerned about the lack of treatment for my anorexic daughter. BMI was too high, no treatment. BMI is now too low for treatment. The impact on her mental health is devastating. It is left to families to manage & we are not experts. I doubt there is any treatment.

Of course it is! Just spent the last 3 hours dealing with the trauma caused. You don’t practise recovering from cancer. They try something else if the treatment doesn’t work. Not with mental health services though. They boot you out the door!

Discharge planning for D. She has hardly gained any weight, not seen a psychologist in 4 months. Limited dietetic support. Plan increased with no support & they wonder why there are revolving door patients! Staffing issues & craft room closed due to a mouse. Not good enough!
