European VC: oh! I will imagine you will find that we are quite fast! Our investment committee meets every 6 weeks

EU VC: I see. How about next Tuesday?

Living on the peninsula means stopping by a house 15 minutes away and there there are two founders comparing notes because they're both building humanoid robot companies in garages within walking distance of one another.
I've talked with thousands of people over the years about the moment they decided to make the jump into the space industry.
This past week I've seen many posts of people not working on space making the trip to Starbase to witness this launch.
I hope for them this moment was it.
What the Gundo guys have done this week is so much more than a hackathon.
Guarantee that there are 1000s of founders-to-be across the country who now see the Gundo as a place to pilgrimage.
If housing is cheap & capital isn't risk averse then SF might actually have competition.
Hackathons are mostly a waste of time. Basically nothing created there goes on to become a success (with undoubtedly a handful of exceptions).
If there’s value there, it’s merely introducing future co-founders to each other, with the hackathon being a selection filter.
"Your tech won't work"
It does
"Nobody will buy it"
They do
"Nobody important will buy it"

Once we get through "your global factory network will never scale" & "you'll never have factories on multiple worlds" it'll all become "we supported them from day one"
Just watch

Just look at me- I had no idea what I was doing.

I hope someone this person knows and loves is saved by one some day and they can see the error of their ways.
hardware is hard? no hardware is a process of knowing how to design products just like software is knowing how to make working code. a part that used to cost us $3,500 to make now costs $400 because we know what we're doing. hardware is hard? skill issue.

I need more radical human expansionists in my life. There are enough "Nooo, leave the space rocks aloone" people already. Where's the nexus of "We won't be happy until we are personally mining the Apophis asteroid with rocket-powered exoskeletons."?
Every time in our events we have someone say they are anti-space if you scratch the surface those that aren’t convinced by data are deeply anti-human. They see us, & by extension themselves, as a cancer on the universe.
We say “Without space humanity is doomed”
They reply, “Good”
Since this Guardian writer has recycled the super-uninformed claim "we ought to be spending the money on Earth instead," it is now time to recycle the informed responses. (1) Hardly *any* money is spent on space. E.g., the US spends 4X as much on tobacco as on space. 1/n

How will our world change when a bright idea for an object can be thought of in the morning and by the afternoon be in the hands of millions around the globe? We can't wait to find out.
The overwhelming positive reaction to this video shows a deep seated desire for our physical environment to change in magical ways like our digital environment does.

Surprisingly the “nobody wants to go to space, it’s a frozen hellscape” people and the “leave space alone every rock is precious and contains cuddly aliens” people are often one in the same.
Seriously. For our entire history as a species we have lived around things that can kill us. We have proceeded to eat those things.
If we don't go after the first space danger that passes so close to earth it will be within the orbits of some satellites what are we even doing?
So a S-type asteroid with nickel and iron is going to fly closer than geostationary satellites in 2029, and that seems perfect for demonstrating some prospecting/mining prototype equipment.
Happy July 4th everyone 🦅

Hardware founders after they go to one of the machine shops in San Jose that is used to charging Apple, Google, and Facebook absurd markups for simple fabrication because none of the FAANG engineers know how physical products are made.
Look, I'm a simple man. I just want to decouple consumption from extraction by perfecting in-situ resource utilization and defeating the very idea of scarce resources.
If you’re doing cool stuff in space or working to get more people excited about space shoot me a DM. I’m actively building the space community on a new app that’s been in the news and I’m looking for folks to bring the “ad astra” mindset.
The current "drone fly-through of factory" trend is an incredible boon for society and a direct memetic descendant of the BBC Eyewitness intro animation. In this paper I will..
Ever wonder what it takes to build a space station?
Take a tour at our Long Beach facility. Six months ago, this was a mostly empty building. Now we are designing, manufacturing, assembling and testing the world’s first commercial station. All under one roof.
For those keeping score at home this investment would be 5% of the Vision Fund. Such an investment could fail completely five times over and be less than the VF's 2022 losses ($27B).

This is why increasing hardware iteration speed is important. Software already iterates fast, but a fast brain in a feeble body does not a future make.
We must push hardware iteration to hours/days, not months/years.
Our reward will be a world that keeps pace with the future.

What 'limits to growth' folks don't get is just how little we actually know about the resources available to us. Hopefully with the second age of exploration ahead we will, as a species, get a better sense of the abundance of our world and the cosmos.
The U.S. Department of Energy confirmed its discovery of a 3,400-kiloton reserve of lithium in California's Salton Sea, making it one of the largest exploitable lithium deposits in the world.
Working in manufacturing is the closest thing we have to building a bridge between universes.
Make the bridge as easy to cross as possible and make it simple to transfer goods between the digital and physical worlds and people will be happy to open their wallets.
