@evornithology @baldymomx2 @2wsphotography @ja_tobias @Au_Erithacus Many possibilities. November-December is when I usually go to South Africa during the spring there. You can rent a car and do your own thing. Elsewhere you’ll need something more organised. Uganda is a good option for much of the year. Lots of facilities for tourists.

A nice promotional video of our study on the genomics of vocal rhythm in @NatureComms. #SongGene @ResearchCy
Whilst some aspects of bird song are learnt, rhythm is thought to be an innate trait in most species and plays an important role in sexual selection and species recognition. However, little is known about the genetic basis of song rhythm. Matteo Sebastianelli and colleagues

Devastating loss for the community, friends and family. Martin studied for his PhD in my lab at the University of Cyprus, was a friend and collaborator. May he rest in peace.
Today the entire BirdLife global family sends its deepest condolences, love & solidarity to everyone at @birdlifecyprus on the devastating loss of their Director Martin Hellicar. No finer man has walked among us.

So disappointing. Just as we were about to submit a manuscript to it. Back to the drawing board for that one.
Our journal @FunEcology is making a change… From Jan 2025 it will be fully #OpenAccess & researchers around the world will be able to read about the latest research on ecological patterns and processes. Find out what this means for authors & readers👇

Our study also shows that rhythmic stability differences increase between species in a tinkerbird hybrid zone and assortative mating occurs only in the species with faster, more stable song! #SongGene @ResearchCy
