It’s now been over 24 hours since the awful violence erupted in Israel & Palestine and not a word from Ireland’s likely next PM about what she has claimed would be 🇮🇪 top foreign policy priority, a cause she feels so strongly about that she displays the flag on her social media.

A healthy property market has a diverse range of offerings to meet peoples’ needs at different stages of their lives. 1 bedroom units are important to stop people in their 20s taking semi-d’s off families. The tone of the below tweet is nauseating to people of my Gen.

Another high-rise housing scheme bites the dust - in this case 1,600 apartments, over 70% one-bedroom units or studios, on the site of historic Clonliffe College in Drumcondra is to have its Paul Hyde-led planning permission quashed by the High Court

Inserting a “right to housing” into Bunreacht na hÉireann will not lead to a single additional house being built. It is a daft proposal being pushed by ideologues that will create a legal mess similar to the 8th Amendment.

For years, people in the south have largely refrained from engaging in debates around 11th bonfires for fear of destabilising a fragile peace. That time has surely passed and it needs to be made clear to Unionist leaders that the communal burning of our national flag + posters

Brussels has the best rental market of any city I’ve lived in & this is because the city has an abundance of 1 bedroom units available to people living & working in the city for 1 or 2 years. Dublin has virtually none meaning people get stuck in houseshares way into their 30s.

@frankmcdonald60 I know exactly what’s going on, thanks. Bxl has more stable rents because BTR 1 beds exist in large quantities together with secure lease arrangements. Dub’s market is largely accidental landlords who inherited a property & don’t know what to do with it.

As an indicator of what you’re up against in the Dub property market, an 🇺🇸 wan sitting next to me at lunch just casually mentioned how her husband - a programmer with a Dub-based tech firm - designed a programme that auto contacts & bids on properties once they appear on Daft.

@frankmcdonald60 Rents will only adjust when the market reflects the demands of population over time & this will mean more BTR properties. You’ve been objecting for properties for years, has this helped?

Hard to think of a more impressive politician than Naomi Long in UK or Irish politics these days.

@gavreilly Aye I think so. Also the hecklers were fringe disrupter types so I don’t think it’s fair to take them as a representation of the sentiment toward MM. It was a really great & well organised event.

@ThomasWhitney_ It does matter. It’s not the role of the President of Ireland to set our country’s foreign policy but he flat out doesn’t care. Our government have been excellent, striking the balance between condemning the horrific attack & leading calls for Israeli constraint.

In Ireland we can be quick to take the EU for granted amid the daily slog of political debate & policy formation but we should never forget that for so many people it is a powerful symbol of freedom and the best chance they have at building a future free from oppression.
