A little 🧵. There are approaches in Migration Studies that (still) believe governments can turn migration on and off like a tap. That they can simply ‘manage’ and neatly regulate migration through policy tools, usually depending on supposed market needs. 1/11

Sadly after 6 months working with Ukrainians I confirm all and worse. 2 families sharing rooms, more ppl then beds in the room, no storage, kids using hot presses to study, hand washing cloths. I can believe saying it but some places feel much worse than DPs.
After a months long FOI battle @IrishTimes got copies of inspection reports into accommodation for Ukrainians the department didn’t want to release, story here:

2nd time in 5mths I have to say goodbye to people I work with. They made an outstanding effort to integrate. We own them an explanation on decisions made and actually seeing them, beyond the line on someone's spreadsheet. @UkraineIreland @UKRinIRL
