Changes to Carers Allowance are very welcome (though these aren't increases in the *value* of the benefit itself). But for carers who can't work, particularly those with no other income or savings, the outlook still looks bleak. #Budget2024

This is hugely positive - Carer's Allowance is outdated and penalises carers who want to work and care. Hopefully a signal of more ambitious reforms to improve the lives of carers.
Really pleased to see reports in the Sun that the Chancellor's going for unprecedented rise in Carer's Allowance earnings limit in her budget to level of 16hrs of the National Living Wage. Thanks to @LBFEW and @finan_fairness for supporting our campaigns

Paid & unpaid care intertwine and people draw on both when in need - and any future care system will rely on unpaid care. Very excited about new work we're funding from @emilykenway deepening our understanding of why we shouldn't design out unpaid care👇

Men in politics famously not preoccupied with their children and thus able to fully commit to public service. Right......
NEW: Conservative MP Sir Christopher Chope says Kemi Badenoch is “preoccupied with her children” and “you can't spend all your time with your family at the same time as being leader of the opposition”. He was speaking on this month's @itvmeridian The Last Word. @itvnewspolitics

@JoeRRyle Loads more to be worked out and hope we can push to close as many loopholes as possible. But from a care perspective it's rare to see policy set out in these terms so am pleased.

So many of our politicians are carers or have been in the past. And yet proper support for unpaid carers and investment in paid care services feels like a distant dream. We need the personal to become political!
My mother was diagnosed with cancer when I was the district attorney of San Francisco. I remember cooking meals for her and taking her to her appointments. I did what I could to make her comfortable. I figured out which clothes were soft enough that they wouldn't irritate her, and told her stories to try and make her laugh. Caregiving is about dignity—not just for the patient, but also for the caregiver. We must lower the costs and ease the burdens faced by our caregivers to make it easier for them to provide care, while pursuing their aspirations. Today, I am announcing a new historic Medicare at Home benefit as part of my plan to help families with caregiving needs and strengthen Medicare for the long-term. Over 67 million people are covered by Medicare, yet many Americans don’t realize that Medicare does not cover long-term services and assistance like home health aides. As a result, many American families face challenging and sometimes impossible choices. My plan will strengthen Medicare to cover home care services and support for seniors. This will include providing care workers with better wages, improving the quality of care for seniors and those with disabilities, and treating our seniors with the dignity they deserve.
