Expanding Clean Energy Access: Progress on the 1.9MW Hybrid Mini-Grid at Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State At the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), we remain committed to delivering sustainable energy solutions that power critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy. As part of this commitment, I am pleased to share ongoing progress on the construction of a 1.9MW hybrid mini-grid at Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, under the African Development Bank (AfDB)-funded Energizing Education Programme (EEP) Phase III. This state-of-the-art mini-grid is more than just an energy project—it represents a transformational leap in sustainable power for education. Beyond the mini-grid, we are also constructing a world-class Renewable Energy Training Centre at the university, which will serve as a talent pipeline for the growing renewable energy sector in Nigeria. The Dutsin-Ma project is just one of eight university sites currently being developed by the REA under this phase. So far, we have successfully completed mini-grids in seven universities, adding a total of 32MW of clean, sustainable, and reliable energy to the grid. These projects are revolutionising higher education institutions, ensuring that students and researchers have uninterrupted electricity to enhance learning, innovation, and productivity. Beyond education, the REA is expanding its interventions in other key sectors, particularly agriculture. On Friday, January 31, 2025, we took another bold step forward by signing agreements with 23 Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) to deploy mini-grids in 23 agricultural hubs across Nigeria. These mini-grids will: ✅ Enhance agricultural production through reliable power for processing & storage ✅ Reduce post-harvest losses, ensuring farmers get maximum value for their produce ✅ Boost food security by integrating energy access into agricultural value chains With each project, we reinforce our commitment to delivering clean, affordable, and sustainable electricity across Nigeria. From education to agriculture and beyond, the REA will continue to implement these critical interventions until we achieve universal energy access and food security for all. Together, we are building a brighter, more resilient, and energy-secure Nigeria. #EnergizingEducation #REA #RenewableEnergy #EnergyForAgriculture #PoweringNigeria #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergy #FoodSecurity #AfDB #MiniGrids

Strengthening Subnational Collaboration for 100% Electricity Access by 2030 Tuesday, February 4, 2025, marked an unprecedented milestone for the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) as we hosted two separate high-level engagements with H.E. @uanamadi, Executive Governor of Jigawa State at the REA State-by-State Roundtable, and H.E. @daudalawal_, Executive Governor of Zamfara State on a courtesy visit to the REA—both in a single day. This level of engagement between the REA and subnational leaders is a testament to the growing commitment of state governments to addressing Nigeria’s energy access challenges. It also highlights the strong collaborative framework that the REA has developed with subnationals in our joint pursuit of a fully electrified Nigeria. The discussions with both Governors, alongside Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs), centered on scaling up decentralised renewable energy solutions and ensuring that cost-effective, sustainable electrification projects are deployed where they are needed most. If we sustain this momentum, we will undoubtedly deliver on Mr. President’s vision of achieving 100% electricity access by 2030. Key Outcomes from the Engagements: ✅ Strengthened Subnational Partnerships: The Governors reaffirmed their commitment to rural electrification, pledging to integrate state-level energy initiatives with REA’s strategic vision. This alignment will accelerate implementation and ensure efficient service delivery. ✅ Targeted Renewable Energy Interventions: The discussions emphasised deploying decentralised solar energy solutions to boost access in remote and underserved communities while ensuring that electricity tariffs remain affordable and economically viable. ✅ Institutional Collaboration for Execution: The Governors committed to enhancing coordination between the REA and their respective State Ministries of Power/Energy to create an enabling policy environment that supports the smooth execution of electrification projects. ✅ Capacity Building & Community Engagement: We reiterated the importance of empowering local communities by enhancing public education on renewable energy adoption and encouraging local participation in project execution—a model that has already yielded success through the Rural Electricity Users Cooperative Society (REUCS). These engagements reaffirm the REA’s role as a catalyst for Nigeria’s energy transformation, ensuring that state-level innovations complement federal policies to drive sustainable, community-driven electrification projects. With the de-monopolisation of Nigeria’s electricity market, we are witnessing an era of competitive, subnational-led innovations that will fast-track private-sector investments and energy expansion. By deepening collaboration between the REA, state governments, and private sector stakeholders, we are not just closing the energy access gap—we are building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy future for all Nigerians. Together, we will deliver universal electricity access and unlock socio-economic opportunities for millions. #RuralElectrification #100PercentBy2030 #REA #SubnationalCollaboration #REAxJigawa #REAxZamfara #EnergyAccess #RenewableEnergy #PoweringNigeria #RuralEmpowerment #EnergyForAll

I had the pleasure of meeting with the leadership team from Broron Oil and Gas Limited, where we explored a promising collaboration opportunity with their subsidiary, Philip EV. Together, we are laying the groundwork for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility—a venture that marks a significant stride towards addressing the critical gap in sustainable energy storage and enhancing the electric vehicle ecosystem in Nigeria. This initiative is not only a testament to Broron Oil and Gas's proactive transition towards renewable energy but also aligns with our national agenda of fostering a greener, more resilient energy future. By embracing this venture, we are paving the way for substantial job creation, robust human capital development, and comprehensive rural empowerment. The project is designed to deliver tangible environmental benefits, reduce carbon emissions, and stimulate local economies, ensuring that the prosperity of our communities is both sustainable and inclusive. As we move towards the kickoff phase, I am confident that this partnership will serve as a catalyst for transformative change in Nigeria’s energy landscape. It underscores our commitment to innovation, sustainable development, and the realisation of a future where clean energy and economic opportunity go hand in hand.

Today, I received the Honourable Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Edo State, Dr Washington Osa Osifo, on a courtesy visit where we discussed collaboration for the purpose of developing a roadmap for the electrification of more rural communities in Edo State. You would recall that through the Rural Electrification Fund (REF), the REA has deployed three 100kW capacity mini-grids in Adebayo community and Oloyan community, Ovia South LGA; and Sulecamp community, Ovia North east LGA. These interventions have greatly improved security, driven socio-economic growth, enhanced agricultural productivity, and advanced gender inclusion in Edo State. We remain committed to sustaining this momentum, with more impactful projects on the horizon.

At my first official event as the confirmed MD/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), I had the privilege of participating in the Grant Award Ceremony of the Africa Mini-Grid Program (AMP)—a flagship REA initiative dedicated to expanding access to clean energy by enhancing the financial viability of mini-grids and promoting large-scale commercial investments in Nigeria's renewable energy sector. The AMP, funded by the United Nations Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme @UNDP @UNDPNigeria and @TheREANigeria, was designed as a complementary initiative to the Energizing Agriculture Programme (EAP). Through the EAP, we have successfully deployed interventions across multiple agricultural clusters in all six geopolitical zones, revolutionising farming methods and mitigating post-harvest losses. As part of this initiative, grant subsidies are being provided to support the development of 23 mini-grids, ranging from 30 kWp to 200 kWp, across Nigeria. These mini-grids will power critical productive-use applications, including cold storage facilities, rice mills, electric two-wheelers, palm processing units, and solar-powered irrigation pumps, further driving economic growth and sustainability in rural communities.   This marks a significant milestone in our commitment to rural electrification, productive energy use, and economic empowerment. I look forward to scaling up these efforts in collaboration with our partners to ensure sustainable and inclusive energy access for all. #PoweringAfrica #AfricaMiniGridProgram #EnergizingAgricultureProgramme #EnergyAccess #REA #RuralElectrification #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture
