College hitter has a bat in his hand around 250 days a year.
Professional hitter has a bat in his hand around 300 days a year.
Professional hitter making a change probably closer to 330 days a year.
Yet we tell HS hitters who want to play at those levels to play other sports?
Hitters need to stay away from making big adjustments off of short term failures. Ten ABs is not enough to trash a plan of attack. Jumping from plan to plan or from one swing flaw to the next is just adding another way to make outs. If you believe in your plan, then work it.
Development occurs when players make mistakes in meaningful situations and the game itself teaches them the lesson. In amateur sports, making the mistake is not the issue. Being afraid of making the mistake is.
As a parent if you think your 6th grader (I checked the math) needs to be referred to as a 2027 don’t be shocked when your kid grows to resent the sport and/or you. In 6th grade we had a kid miss a game from drinking too many Shirley Temples at Applebee’s.. it’s not that serious.
The best part of watching
@Midland_Redskin
@MidlandBraves
sign their NLIs is that I know they’re prepared to tackle the challenges the next level presents. For some today will be the peak, but not our guys.
Catchers call games
Green lights on the base paths
No 3-0 take signs, actually no signs at all 😂.
We teach in practice and test in games. Most preach development, we live it
Looking for motivated players that want to improve their game, and have fun while doing so. If you want to play as hard as you can without fearing failure, this is the right team.
Little drill work with a laser. The red dot stays on the ball then finish the swing. The red dot disappears pump the brakes and check your positioning.
@ChaseHerrell
with a 🔥 demo
The older I get the more disappointed I am that I ever cared about player rankings. It’s better to be group into a tier (college bound, D1, pro prospect) than it is to have a specific number by your name. College coaches don’t care. Pro scouts don’t care. Neither should you.
Being committed early should give you license to experiment and find new ways to get better. Too often I see guys doing the opposite, falling back into the ways that have gotten them to this point. Your skills are appreciating or depreciating.. that’s it.
Coaches either inject fear or courage in their players. Way too many young players afraid to make mistakes or think for themselves. Players learn more from corrective measures than they do from preventative ones.
Working on direction by trying to complete a swing inside the PVC pipes. Did I stand on a chair to take this vid? Yes. Does
@WilliamJaun
swing it? Also, yes.
Good luck to all my guys heading to WWBA Underclass and Worlds over the next few weeks. Tons of money on the ground down there. No better time to grab some for yourself.
You can get a month’s worth of
@ProForceSP
OR around 5/6 hours of quality hitting/pitching instruction OR virtual reality training OR a quality nutrition plan OR just about every baseball book ever written for the price of one showcase. Imagine the possibilities
If a young kid comes in and says I want to hit like this big leaguer that is 100% fine. It’s our job as coaches to say “Ok well this is what this big leaguer does well. Let’s work on that.” Don’t tell a kid how he’s not talented enough to hit like that. None of us actually know.
Tough to see so many kids missing out on what it means to “crack the lineup.” Typically there’s 35 guys on a college roster and only 9 get to play. The sooner you learn to compete within your own team, the better off you’ll be.
Pro ball taught me patience. For a variety of reasons amateur baseball puts too much of an emphasis on being really good RIGHT NOW. Players who work hard, more times than not are gonna get as far as their gonna get if development is prioritized.
You don't have to play at a high level to be a good coach but this right here explains the other parts of playing at a high level that can translate into coaching.
Every hitter, every approach, and every swing can expect a certain number of outs to be made. If we changed our thought process from “How can I avoid making outs?” To “How can I raise the quality of outs I’m going to make?” our results would have less of an effect on us.
Idk who needs to hear this but going to a 60+ team tournament scouted via iPhone only to end up in the consolation bracket isnt the return on investment you should pursuing
Watch the Dodgers handle velo. Not in your spot? Eassyyyyy take. Combat high velocities with heightened selectivity. Give the guy the edges. Don’t miss it in the middle
Humility will shrink more slumps than mechanical fixes ever will. When you aren’t doing the things required to have good ABs, be humble enough to check yourself. Make those changes and chase those goals but you’re start trying to chase physical adjustments.
Working a little pitch selection drill with
@WilliamJaun
here. If it catches the white, anything hard hit is. If it catches the black (tanner tee base) extra base hits are a win.
Congrats to the 8 1st team all conference guys (including 3 POYs) that shared the cage with me this off-season. Accepted the challenge of being the best versions of themselves. Growth is in the solution. Find more solutions.
Spoke to a good friend of mine (D1assistant) about players and the only thing he asked me about every single guy was “How long will it take for him to get on the field?” All of the other stuff (rankings, events, etc) doesn’t matter. Probably wise to stop chasing them.
Good luck to all the hitters, two-ways, and hitting coaches as they start their HS season today. And pitchers/pitching coaches, well... we’ll see ya out there. 😂

Baseball tech is significantly more valuable as a player development tool than it is as a talent evaluation tool. Your exit velocity is a result of the quality of your input. Not an indicator of what level of a baseball you should reach.
Had a college freshman come back after his first fall. He walked in with a plan to get better.
Self awareness✅
Humility ✅
Internally motivation ✅
How do successful hitters stay successful? (See above)
Best hitters I’ve ever been around don’t let their stress raise with the level of competition or the difficulty of their environment. Even keeled tacticians. What’s the plan? Ok I’ll execute it.
Hitters it’s time to start stressing those off-season adjuments. See how the hold up against big movement, high velocity, unfair hitting conditions etc. Be on the right side of ready when your seasons start.
Proud of the guys that signed today. Just as proud of the ones who haven’t yet. A random day in November of your senior year won’t be the separator. Now what?
17U
@MidlandBraves
Midland's Premier 17U team will be hosting tryouts on Aug 1st and 2nd from 12 to 2pm... If you want to be a part of the Midland Family and a team with top notch coaching please come out! Please show up 30 mins early to register!
Parents stop over coaching your kids during their competitions. The game will teach them. Let’s just say your kid makes it to a level where they are competing in front of loud crowds. They won’t be able to hear you. Then what?
Few things here (by my count)...
1. 16 of the 27 Middle-oppo, WOW
2. 8 of the 11 pulled are offspeed pitches
3. Slashing .370/.439/1.247
4. I'm sure these three things have zero correlation
To get the most out of your career as a baseball player is not nearly as hard as most convince young players it is. Be present. Work hard. Surround yourself with good people. Chase hard truths.
@mj_rich24
@pjonesbaseball
>90% of HS athletes don’t play in college and >99% of HS baseball players don’t play in the big leagues. 88% of the best high school athletes (top ten percent roughly) play multiple sports. What’s the stats on the bottom 90%?
Bat Flip Power Rankings in my lifetime
1. Pujols and how disgusted he was you made him hit a HR
2. Griffey Jr (he’s good at everything)
3. Carlos Gonzalez... trust me go to YouTube
4. Yasiel Puig whether it was a HR or F9
5. Big Papi because he wasn’t running hard anyways
Hitters, the sole purpose of your approach should be to funnel pitches into the part of the zone that allows you to do the most damage. Your plan should match your path.
Talked a little life with one of guys today and it was a reminder that often times athletes forget how far they’ve come. Don’t be afraid to take a few minutes to marvel at your successes. Then get back to work.
We have to be careful not to act as if hitting a baseball hard requires perfection. Is it hard? Absolutely. Is it impossible? Absolutely not. Practice the repeatables. Trust the practice. Let it fly
In this era of tournaments and showcases the kids that take the time to learn the game of baseball have such a big advantage. The number of college baseball players simply relying on ability is surprising
Recruiting tip: Before you commit to a school, check to see how many years that coach has on his contract and what his records been since he got there. All it takes is a few clicks to have a better understanding of what type of situation you could be walking into.
Hitters if you thinking protecting your A swing means less work then your work’s no good. If you work less when things are good and work more when things are bad then expect average.
One of the goals that leads my instruction is helping hitters become numb to adverse situations. Great hitters don't waste energy and emotion on the adversity. They spend that energy and that emotion on understanding the task and preparing a plan within an instant.
Players deserve to be coached. Personalities deserve to be managed. Not the other way around . Players are more likely to learn and trust if you let them be themselves. The kid that cracks a few untimely jokes is an important piece to successful teams.

High energy, gritty, talented. Has to be near or at the top of the list of ‘21 catchers still available in the Midwest. Can really defend/✅s all the boxes back there. Tough AB at the plate w/+avg tools, zone awareness and barrel accuracy.
Going to do hitting groups for HS aged kids everyday after school this fall/winter. It will start October 11th and go through tryouts. Space will be limited (one cage) so DM/text me for more details!
What if... and stay with me here.. they used pitching machines for batting practice at showcase events? Set it up for a 88-90 MPH fastball and gather those metrics. Easy way to find out whose swing will actually translate. All that data in a more game like setting? Who says no?
Slumps start the moment you let results distract you from the attention to detail it requires to be prepared. The preparation you do before you enter the box and before you swing the bat dictates your results.
Graduation gifts for my outgoing senior clients out of appreciation for all their hard work. 3 are off to college baseball, 1 to college football, and 1 has plans to open his own restaurant after college. Goal is to put somethin on their mind in somethin in their stomachs
There’s two guys hitting in this clip. Obviously the one in the cage, but 👀 the background. The guy in the back has never done this drill. He’s still trying to find it’s purpose and maybe see if it’s for him. Glad the 📸 caught this one.
Hitters: There’s no plan/approach that doesn’t have a downside. Every plan has holes. Every approach has a weakness. The 🔑 is have the conviction and belief in the fact that the upside outweighs the downside
A significant portion of the hitting that goes on in my cage is based on presenting difficult tasks, acknowledging how difficult a task is and requiring the hitter to own their results. Hitting is difficult for sure. Ownership makes it easier
The current development model is designed more towards tricking college coaches into offers instead of earning one. PR in the winter and hope it shows on the field on right day at the right time. Leaves kids/parents with lose with unrealistic expectations
Treat your players like the players you want them to become. If they fall short then teach them the way. Coaches are really only there to inject confidence & accountability in their players. We let toddlers play in puddles but make 15 year olds bunt in high leverage situations 🤔
Anytime the baseball is moving (front toss, live arm, machine, etc., hitters shouldn’t be surprised by failure. If you are then what’s the point in whatever drill you’re doing? Hitting’s hard at all levels/locations. In the cage is no different.
In the early stages of amateur baseball we don’t spend enough time developing the athlete. In the later stages we don’t develop the baseball player. So we get a bunch of kids who feel like they’ve been lied to when they find out most of their training doesn’t translate.
Always found it strange how coaches and parents always cite the “fail 70% of the time and you’re a HOF” quote but then lose it when kids strikeout too much. The fear of striking out (swinging and looking) has done more negative damage to youth hitters than anything else IMO.
Drafts today as I’m sure you guys know. Average MLB debut age is around 24. Just a friendly reminder that if you’re in high school you has less than a decade to get to the Big Leagues. Work accordingly
Happy to announce hitting coach

certified. This will be a huge benefit to all players in the program by providing screens and corrective exercises.
Once you see the business side of baseball you can’t unsee it. Evaluations and assessments that aren’t paid for by your parents are the only ones that carry any weight. The more time you spend hiding from those evals the more it hurts when they find you.
Amazing this concept almost feels like the outlier these days. Most hitters problems aren’t swing related. But swing fixes are easier to sell so… 🤷🏾♂️
Having the attitude of Division I baseball or bust isn’t the issue. The issue lies in the fact that the work doesn’t match that attitude. Almost any competitor will bet on their ability. Less will bet on their work.
The idea that players need innings/ABs is only useful if those players have something they are working on against quality competition. Playing just to play isn’t development. It’s just a way to pass the blame to someone else.
🚨New draft guys, a few things I learned🚨
Be where your feet are.
You are not your results.
Meet new people, especially those who don’t speak your language.
Fall in love with the process.
Get yourself a solid air mattress and learn to love a good ol’ fashion PB&J.
Whatever you struggle with on the baseball field will be the reason that someone keeps you off it. Avoiding what needs to improve is only speeding up that process
If you find yourself on the bubble with your high school team maybe missing hitting so you can be make the Super Bowl pregame show isn’t a good idea. 🤷🏾♂️
