Our most recent study demonstrates the assembly of a molecular clutch mechanism at apically positioned integrins of the retinal pigment epithelium. An unusual epithelium in that it faces an extracellular matrix at its apical side called the interphotoreceptor matrix.
Cdc42-activated MRCKβ signaling regulates actomyosin dynamics to drive phagocytosis. Stimulation of apical actomyosin activity is sufficient to rescue phagocytosis in deficient patient iPSC-derived RPE cells. By @ceniz_zihni et al @BaldaMatterLabs @UCLeye:
