The OPS teacher exodus needs to be a wake up call. Teachers need systemic changes, retention bonuses, and more building autonomy. Instead, teachers are getting ice cream, thank you notes, $5 gift cards, and jean days.

Maybe giving all teachers and/or paras a raise should take precedence over sending Nebraskans to a border 1,000 miles away. There are elementary kids in Omaha without special education teachers in their buildings, so they are now forced to go to different schools.

Nebraska is trying to get out of playing Oklahoma on Sept. 18, sources told @Stadium . The Cornhuskers have contacted other schools to play in Lincoln on that date, sources said. The game was scheduled to mark 50th anniversary of 1971 "Game of the Century" b/w No. 1 NU & No. 2 OU

Time to brag about one of my students! Amaris kept our winning streak alive at @SchooMiddle for the VFW 131 Patriot's Pen essay. The theme was "How Can I Be A Good American?" She took 1st place in Lincoln. Please read her essay. Amaris is an AWESOME student! So bright and kind.

This is wonderful. We need something like this in public education. Small-town kids hanging out with Omaha and Lincoln kids. Attending each others’ schools for a week.

New @flatwaterfreep : For past year, North Omahans & rural Nebraskans have visited each others' towns. The small towners have gone to church & learned history of North O. The big city folk toured ranches, watched sunsets. And, all year, they have talked.

Ah, yes. All of a sudden @jim_pillen cares about "kids in need" and "kids in poverty." I would believe him if he actually took the time to visit public school districts in the impoverished areas of Lincoln and Omaha. But he doesn't.

Remember teaching through the pandemic and unprecedented times? Me too. Remember a record numbers of teachers quitting the last two years? Me too. Remember those bonuses, retention packages, and new benefits? Me neither. It’s time.

Over the last couple years in public education, teachers have heard the same phrases over and over from some administration and district higher-ups. It has turned into toxic positivity. Can we please change this? Some examples 🧵 /1

Based on a small sample size of non-educators, I get the sentiment can quickly turn to "yeah, we all have stressful jobs...get over it...stop whining and complaining." But teachers are in charge of America's future. If you don't take care of them, everything eventually suffers.

So a group of conservative politicians were worried about something without any proof in order to advance their fear mongering and misinform the public? Huh. Weird.

LPS blocks sites if they aren't pre-approved. The district follows federal guidelines in order to receive funding for its internet. Been that way for a long time. All she had to do was contact them and fill out a form. This is such a non-story.

Nebraska public schools are preparing for next year's staffing. March 15th is the earliest teachers can be required to sign a letter of intent. Still no signs of retention packages, bonuses, or new incentives. If those in power aren't proactive, teachers will keep leaving.

I see the “you should have never fired Bo” Husker fans and former players are out in full force. Gross. The dude called called his boss a c*nt, told the fans to f*ck off, got destroyed in almost every big game, and hasn’t had a sniff of a P5 job since he left. #Huskers

@NicholasFerroni Six figures? What kind of house do you need? Not saying teachers aren’t underpaid, but if you need 100k to not be paycheck to paycheck and have peace of mind, that’s absurd.
