You’re right that no President in the last 16 years has genuinely attempted to cut spending writ large. Again, the issue is NOT opposition to spending/waste cuts or audits. Truly. Lemme put it this way. Trump could make most of these cuts with zero legal or Constitutional challenges, but he is willfully choosing not to. THAT is the issue.

So, the optics for people who mostly trust gov’t but distrust Trump based on our experience of him is: Musk spent $250 Million to help Trump win. In exchange Trump allows him to use the federal gov’t to grow his various business interests around the world by removing regulatory agencies/oversight, dropping investigations, funding corporate tax cuts & hobbling competitors. All with the knowledge Musk has billions in gov’t contracts; and failed FBI background check for refusing to elaborate on his relationships with Russia & China.
