Joined Twitter three weeks ago because I finally finished my novel and wanted to show off. Last thing I expected was to make friends, but there are some genuinely warm, creative, funny people here.

So, according to lots of "writers" here, it seems all my effort learning the craft of writing over the years may have been wasted. Apparently, all I need is a good story. I can write it badly and editors will do the rest. 🤦 #WritingCommunity

Controversial opinion...? In my humble opinion, if a friend (etc) recommends a book, and you can easily afford to buy a copy, you should buy it rather than borrow it. To me, it's like not tipping waiting staff. Most authors have a low income and need support. #WritingCommunity

Never sniff a #smell . You're a writer. Inhale a scent. Breathe in an aroma. Snuffle a bouquet. Detect a fragrance on a soft breeze. Perceive a stench of death. Trace the perfume of a flower. Savor the tang of citrus. Trail the redolence to its source. #WritingCommunity #vss365

Do your characters have a #backstory ? In my humble opinion, they should. Even if their tale will never be told, a character's history defines who they are, and when details of their past come through in their dialogue, it breathes life into them. #vss365 #WritingCommunity
