Very grateful to
@WatfordFC
for getting in touch to offer food that was going to be eaten by fans watching tomorrow’s match to local good causes.
Soup, sandwiches, Christmas dinner, mince pies and much more.
THANK YOU WATFORD!
It is such an honour to serve as the town’s Mayor and I am so grateful to everyone who put their trust in me. I love this town and will do everything I can to make it an even better place for everyone.
💛 Great to see the progress being made on the Vicarage Rd subway.
❤️ Fantastic example of a collaboration between
@WatfordCouncil
,
@WatfordFC
,
@hertscc
to make this happen.
🖤 Really good to meet the talented team from
@MurWalls
I know there has been much speculation about the future of Watford FC's stadium and a possible move to Bushey. The rebuilding of Watford General Hospital could free up land to improve Watford FC’s Vicarage Road stadium, helping to keep the club on its current site.
🇺🇦 Watford Town Hall has been turned blue and yellow to show our solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
People in our town will have friends & family in Ukraine who will be fearful for their future.
The UK must do all it can to support the people of Ukraine & their democracy.
Congratulations to Shaun Bailey on his peerage.
In Watford we remember fondly his campaign here during his London Mayoral campaign. An interesting tactic given that we are not in London.
🏅 Former
@WatfordFC
and England striker and local hero
@LBliss8
officially became a Freeman of the Borough tonight.
If anyone deserves this honour, it is Luther. Over many years he has been involved in countless community events and projects.
These are exciting times for Watford fans and I am sure many of you will be looking forward to tomorrow’s match with the hope of promotion. I would like to send the best of luck to the whole team on behalf of the town.
One thing I would like to ask from everyone tomorrow is 1/3
🔶 Amazing results in Watford - we won 11 of 12 seats. Gaining 3 seats from Labour.
We now have 30 councillors, our most ever!
Thank you to ever person who put their trust in the
@WatfordLibDems
team.
Today Watford’s flag is flying at half mast at
@WatfordCouncil
out of respect for John Alagos, an NHS worker who passed away after caring for people with the Coronavirus, and all those in the town who have died from this illness. Please stay home, protect the NHS and save lives
I'd like to say a massive thank you to the fantastic volunteers at the
@Roymoore_Hornet
who, along with
@WatfordCouncil
and our local businesses, have helped to paint our town centre yellow today ahead of the FA Cup Final on 18th May.
I am very sorry to learn of a death related to Coronavirus at Watford General Hospital today. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
I would like to to also pay tribute to the staff at Watford General Hospital who do a remarkable job in all circumstances.
A headteacher introduced me at a school assembly today asking the pupils, ‘Does anyone know who this is?’
One had shoots up: ‘Is he the Watford manager?’
Just been in the town centre to thank the hardworking team at Veolia for all their work this morning. They’ve been there since the early hours clearing away litter.
The High Street is already looking much cleaner and they are on the case to clean out the pond.
#dontbeatosser
I’m absolutely delighted that
@LBliss8
has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee birthday honours. Luther works so hard every day for charities and good causes in the town. He is a Watford legend on and off the pitch and this recognition is thoroughly well deserved.
What an honour to raise the England flag at Watford Town Hall today with Watford FC and England legend
@LBliss8
.
Come on England!! 🏴🏴🏴
Tesco Extra in Watford has announced that on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays they will be opening the store between 9-10am for elderly and vulnerable customers.
Delighted to be unanimously re-selected by
@WatfordLibDems
members as a candidate for Watford’s 2022 mayoral election. It’s been such a privilege to serve the town as mayor.
I’ll always stand up for Watford.
My priorities are:
✅ More jobs
✅ Greener town
✅ Better services

🏰The grand staircase of Cassiobury House was removed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, when the house was demolished in 1927.
It's still there today! 😮

5 minutes in to homeschooling this morning and all 3 of my children were crying. Being a Council Leader for the rest of the day was relatively straightforward.
The new
@eltonofficial
mural on Watford Central Library is looking brilliant!
Thank you to the talented team at
@MurWalls
for their work on this. Glad that
@WatfordCouncil
and
@hertscc
could help make this happen ahead of Elton John’s concerts at Vicarage Road.
Thank you so much to everyone who voted for the
@WatfordLibDems
team in these local elections.
We won 9 of the 12 wards so
@WatfordCouncil
continues to have 27 Lib Dem councillors, 9 Labour and no Conservatives.
I’ve just written to
@JBrokenshire
about the government’s decision to approve windowless flats in Watford under permitted development rules.
People deserve somewhere to live that gives them dignity. Councils need the powers to block applications like these.
Calling all
#watfordfc
fans- I'm keen to work with everyone to paint our town yellow ahead of the FA Cup Final. A particular thanks already to
@Roymoore_Hornet
who I'm delighted will be decking out the Town Hall again this year.
When first elected Mayor of Watford in 2018 there were 7 Conservative district leaders in Hertfordshire.
After these local elections, it looks like there will be just 1 Conservative district council leader in the whole county.
As a mark of respect following the death of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II, tomorrow's game against Reading at Vicarage Road has been postponed, along with all EFL matches this weekend.
Fixtures will recommence on Tuesday, when we visit Blackburn Rovers.
John Lewis and its predecessors have been a part of Watford for 140 years and this is incredibly sad news for our town.
Read my full statement about John Lewis's closure in Watford below:
Iceland Watford have agreed to open the store between 8 - 9am tomorrow just for the elderly and vulnerable. They have asked that people be respectful between 9 - 10 also when the store opens to the general public at 9 as some elderly may still be trying to do their shopping.
I am so pleased to hear that Cassiobury Park has been voted as one of the top 10 parks in the whole of the UK!
Thank you if you voted for any of our parks in the Green Flag People's Choice Awards.
Each week I am sent a report on the performance of the teams collecting our bins, cleaning our streets & maintaining our parks. This week we received 26 compliments & no complaints. So grateful to frontline workers at the moment - continuing to serve Watford even in adversity
As we marked the last Clap for Carers tonight, we lit the Town Hall up in blue to thank our NHS and all key workers in our town.
So many people have made such a sacrifice to support us through this crisis. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude.
Great to bump into
@anthonyjoshua
at a community event on St Albans Road this evening. He does so much to support the community in Watford.
Good luck to Rhoda and everyone involved in the new Ngorli shop.
Thank you so much to
@Roymoore_Hornet
for helping us to get this brilliant banner up at Watford Town Hall.
Our NHS staff are inspirational and the whole town is grateful for their care and dedication.
#ClapForOurCarers
A fantastic set of results across Watford - the
@WatfordLibDems
received 54% of all votes cast, up 11% on last year, winning 10 of the 13 seats. Thank you so much to everyone who backed our team! 🔸
This evening we lit the beacon at Watford Museum in remembrance of Margaret Maughan, who sadly passed away last week. A teacher and Watford resident for 60 years, she was the first UK Paralympic gold medalist. In 2012, she lit the flame at the London Paralympics opening ceremony.
We have a great relationship with the club, which has really played its part in the community during the COVID crisis by making its stadium a haven for hospital staff. I will do everything in my power to enable the club to stay in Vicarage Road & remain in the heart of Watford.
A really encouraging evening campaigning for
@EmmaMidBeds
to be the next MP for Mid Beds. It’s obvious her campaign has real momentum with people switching from the other parties to back a strong local MP focused on tackling the cost of living crisis & cutting NHS waiting times.
🎉 From last Friday there were no verified rough sleepers in Watford, all are accommodated and being supported through our single homeless programme
🙏 This has only been possible due to the hard work of the council’s housing team, charities such as New Hope, One YMCA and Grow
Delighted to announce that
@WatfordCouncil
has secured nearly half a million pounds in additional funding for outreach workers to support people in our town experiencing homelessness.
No one should have to sleep rough and I want to do all I can to tackle homelessness in Watford.
Welcome to the
@LibDems
! You will be fully embraced by the party once we see a picture of you looking grumpy next to a pothole and hear that Streatham is a two horse race.
Intu's decision to call in administrators is disappointing but the shopping centre in Watford has a long-term future. The centre will remain open and because
@WatfordCouncil
council owns the freehold we can help shape future arrangements and protect jobs.
Thank so much to everyone who has put their trust in me. Now the work begins - being a mayor for the whole town and making this an even better place to live. But first a celebratory drink or two!
I’m pleased to have been joined by
@WatfordCouncil
Chairman Cllr
@AgaDychton
in lighting our Town Hall purple tonight to support the Black Lives Matter campaign.
I'm proud to be Mayor of a diverse town, where people from many different backgrounds care for one another.
The plaque on the bench dedicated to Graham Taylor by
@eltonofficial
has been replaced.
Graham Taylor left a wonderful legacy for the town, building a family club that does so much for the community.
@LBliss8
I have been contacted about damage to the bench in Cassiobury Park that
@eltonofficial
dedicated to Graham Taylor.
It is very sad that anyone would want to do this. The team at
@WatfordCouncil
will make sure that the plaque is replaced quickly.
On
#FACupFinal
day it was great to pop into Watford Museum and chat about
@WatfordFC
successes at Wembley.
This is the trophy they won in 1999 when the team won promotion to the Premiership. 💛❤️🖤
An honour to move the motion to nominate Luther Blissett for Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Watford at our Extraordinary Council meeting this evening.
His service to our town will never be forgotten.
🚴🏽♂️ Delighted that Watford’s new bike share scheme has launched today
🚴🏻♀️
@BerylBikes
will be available from 70 places across the town
🚴🏻♀️ We’re working hard to improve transport in Watford to cut congestion and make our air cleaner
A privilege to light the beacon outside Watford Museum this evening as we pay tribute to all those we’ve lost over the past year. As we come together to reflect on this period of adversity, let’s also look forward with hope to better days ahead.

Great to welcome
@alanshearer
to Watford today to launch the new fortis facility at Watford Woodside Leisure Centre.
I decided to join in. Time to get fit after all my recent ‘cheese and wine meetings’.
Delighted that Watford is twinned with Wilmington, Delaware!
Congratulations President-elect
@JoeBiden
.
Hope he and
@KamalaHarris
can unite and heal his country.
Just on a call with Council Leaders.
@BorisJohnson
joined us. Praised ‘heroic efforts’ of councils & finished with ‘thank you, thank you, thank you’.
Does he now accept this is completely the wrong time to be distracted by local government reorganisation, creating mega-councils?
I have been contacted about damage to the bench in Cassiobury Park that
@eltonofficial
dedicated to Graham Taylor.
It is very sad that anyone would want to do this. The team at
@WatfordCouncil
will make sure that the plaque is replaced quickly.
Congratulations Sohail Bashir - new
@WatfordLibDems
councillor for Vicarage ward!
This seat has been held by Labour since 2007
🔶 Lib Dem GAIN from Labour
The Watford Lib Dems won 11 of 12 wards and now have 30 seats on the council - our most ever!
Good to see the Covid case rate in Watford back below 100 for first time since early October. Very grateful to NHS and public health teams, frontline workers & everyone who is still doing the right thing to keep themselves and others safe.
Latest info at
By the way, has anyone noticed how the Lib Dems have become completely irrelevant to anything happening in British politics?
I keep forgetting that they exist
I quite like the new name
@MayorofLondon
While you are renaming this line, can you also rezone Watford’s stations to zone 6?
The current zoning makes no sense and punishes everyone who travels through Watford’s stations - including thousands of Londoners every day.
The Lioness line
📍Euston to Watford Junction
Map colour: Yellow parallel lines
Running through Wembley, this line honours the historic achievements and lasting legacy of the England women’s football team that continues to inspire and empower the next generation of girls.
Good to appear on
@itvlondon
this evening to talk about today’s
@alzheimerssoc
walk in Watford and the work we are doing to make Watford a more Dementia friendly town.

What a performance by
@WatfordFCWomen
today to win promotion to the Championship. Massive congratulations to the team!
It was wonderful to see Watford legend
@helenwardie10
celebrating with the trophy after an incredible 22 seasons - which started and finished at Watford!
I am really proud of the candidates the
@WatfordLibDems
are putting forward. I know that each and every one of them will be excellent local champions for their area.
Our new candidates are really impressive and you can find out more about them here
🏅12 parks and green spaces in Watford have been awarded Green Flag status this year.
♻️The awards acknowledge areas with the highest possible environmental, maintenance and visitor standards.
✅We are committed to continued investments in parks and leisure facilities in Watford.
I was delighted to be joined by
@LBliss8
today to announce that we'll be hosting a free Big Screen for
#WatfordFC
fans who can't make it Wembley to watch the game in Cassiobury Park.
More information can be found here:
Every day
@LBliss8
does so much to support the community in Watford. I am delighted that today he received his OBE at Windsor Castle from Prince William. This is incredibly well deserved recognition for his years of dedicated service.
Today I met with local resident Matthew, 12. Matthew got in touch to suggest we get new table tennis tables in Cassiobury Park, which
@WatfordCouncil
installed by the tennis courts. It was great a match there with him today.
Come along all summer to play your free game!
Really proud to have raised the flag for
@HertsPRIDE
today at the Town Hall with
@AgaDychton
.
One of the fantastic things about Watford is the diversity of our community. I am proud to be Mayor of such a tolerant town.
Great to join some of the
@WatfordLibDems
team in
#TivertonandHoniton
today.
Really positive response from residents.
There’ll clearly be a huge swing to the
@LibDems
and possibly an historic win.
Voters are fed up with Boris Johnson’s government.
