If only we had a card in Standard that would punish a player for putting too many tokens into play to neuter Field of the Dead / Scapeshift. Should probably be Red and deal damage.
Ah well...
For reference, the top Hearthstone (Kripp) & Magic (Numot) streamers have a hard focus on limited.
Games of limited include deck building + playing with different strategies and make for engaging content.
It seems like we need to improve the way the content is shown.
Have some exhilarating news to share - got selected as one of the Pro Player consultants for the remainder of 2018!
Trying to think about how to best do this role but really excited!
I wasn't sure whether or not to share my response to the MTG survey. But I play and have played Magic specifically for its physicality over any kind of digital presence. I (really) enjoy Arena but it is not the reason I am invested into Magic.
8-1 at GP Prague after a lovely day of Doom Whisperer being on my side of things.
Coolest moment though - a fan of coverage gave me 4 sets of handmade coasters as a gift! (1 for me / 1 for
@lsv
/ 1 for
@Marshall_LR
/ 1 more for my choice). Really nice present from a Russian fan!
A little annoyed the discourse was more on “foils are bad” and not “weird that exactly these very relevant 7 are foils + the upkeep feeling”.
I like playing pretty cards in tournaments :/
Not having an end-of-season tournament for the top N ladder players (~100-128) seems like a missed opportunity for both player sanity and coverage opportunity.
Turns out my preview card is a literal Pick, so this aged well.
Presenting - Goldvein Pick!
Thank you Wizards for my first ever preview card, I'm certain I will be seeing a lot of it while drafting Kaldheim packs.
#FreePreview
I'm so excited that the original Tweet's not even written that well. I don't care. Even if this is a last pick draft common I will love it, because it means you get to see it often in every draft.
This is the worst gameplay promo I've ever seen.
Like, infinite gotchas in one card and we're removing the text to make sure your opponent has a miserable time.
@wizards_magic
I have used the play history to actively tell stories on coverage and do my taxes with accuracy (last week and yesterday, respectively). I have moved across cities and countries and the play history has worked as a reminder of these times.
If possible, please conserve it.
Not going to lie, someone getting their deck stolen and replaced by a souped version delivered by the community in about 48 hours is an A+ moment.
(Well, screw the thief of course).
You have 1h20 to change your list for the GP in Phoenix.
You may not be able to change your deck. But you have time to add Damping Sphere to your sideboard. Do so.
I've decided on my 5th vote - it's going to be
@meddlingmage
.
I think the thought process is important though because it was taxing on me and relays the fatigue I have around these debates.
Lost in the quarters of the Modern Showcase Challenge. Pretty excellent result, since that gets me to the ~32 person field event where winner goes to MOCS.
Stoked ^^
(Every card you have doubts about in this list has performed very well)
There is rarely a phrase in the english language that will turn me off your viewpoint more than "virtue-signalling".
I would suggest killing your use of the term. It brings nothing.
Quick info thread of some top performing lists at
#PTFinals
.
TL;DR:
Best deck anyone could have found - 4C Reclamation
Best deck someone could have found - Mardu Winota
Most surprising performer - Jund Sacrifice
Best deck - Riku Kumagai's Mono Black aggro
Won the MTL F2F Open with Jeskai Breach.
Appreciate the list + guide from
@tiddypills
that let my very tired brain "autopilot" the deck I just picked up.
I'll compose a longer message tomorrow but fun factoids after the GP win:
* I have only played this limited format on Arena / IRL (2 drafts on MTGO but zero games).
* This is also true of Standard.
* I did the trip to secure Gold but locked it by NJ. Decided to go anyways.
The triomes are too strong in Standard discussion is hilarious given that Rakdos midrange performed so much better than Grixis just because its mana base had way less tap lands.
This is an unusual, longer response because of the nuance. In 3 parts:
* I am in support of Lizbeth Eden
* The MTG Creator Program
* Why I think this happened and a personal story
This hit me like a ton of bricks. Paul has been so instrumental to the Pro Tour for so long now and a person I had utmost confidence in.
I really hope he lands well!
Unfortunately, I will no longer be working for WotC as I was one of the many that were hit by the Hasbro layoffs.
It was an absolute dream to work on the game that I've loved playing for over 20 years. Future is unclear but I may fire up a stream after the New Year!
Last night I had the pleasure of hosting dinner for these lovely people visiting Montreal.
Hope that
#hometowndinner
picks up as a trend :D

I tried the convoke deck on MTGO. Had some leagues, some fun, decided I learned enough.
Made over 100 tickets selling the deck's unique cards I bought off, which I find hilarious.
Cooking for the mint card team this week has been fun. No idea if I'll do well at the PT but at least team mates are well fed, there's less waste, we're saving money and losing less time overall (obv takes me hours but teammates making the good decks).
Just booked flight tickets for Warsaw, Shizuoka & Liverpool. 4 formats, 3 GPs, 2 continents, 1 objective - securing Gold.
Also aiming to visit Magic community at large in view of the player consultant role, so I can have face to face chats.
My favorite moment from yesterday's Theros limited was naming a non-existent "Grey Merchant of Asphodel" on Medomai's Prophecy to bait my opponent to use a Mystic Repeal on that, rather than the large flying enchantment creature I had in hand and needed to stick to survive.
I’ve done a lot to avoid anger in life. However, there are still two things that get me no matter what:
1. Internet that is slow / randomly disconnects when promised as fast.
2. Seeing people not treat others as fellow human beings.
I’ll work on 1. Think 2. will stay.
I will do something special for the Modern main event at
#GPVegas
.
My deck will include at least 1 printing for each year of Magic so far (26 calendar years) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game.
Here's a series of updated lists you can use for Standard tournaments this WE (especially sideboards). Thank you to
@Lava_Axe
for going through these with me.
Thread will have images, there will be a text link at the end for importing to Arena.
Top 8 of the Modern MOCS qualifier, lost in Quarters. Don't think I could have won my QF given draws and started the tournament with a loss, so no regrets.
Was on Jeskai Breach. Pretty happy to have this as my go-to deck in Modern.
Died in the QF to finish 5th ($4,500 + $500 top 8 coverage bonus).
Very happy with the finish and most of my play. Think in the quarters I gave myself a good shot in G2 / G3 to win off Bolas' Citadel but did not get there.
Next week-end: Doing coverage and Arena Qualifier.
A "silver" lining - Turns out Mint Card had a great performance this PT and managed to hit *exactly* 8th place. This gives me &
@HaoshanHuang
a very needed invite at PT Atlanta to bounce back.
I find it hilarious that one of the first cards I found "sweet" as an early casual Magic player is now seeing play as a 4x in Standard in a different color pair 18 years later.
