The official Twitter account for the unofficial fanpage, about the Bert I Gordon film where teens eat a strange substance, grow 30 ft tall and terrorize a town!
Here's a commission we got from
@evangauntt
, showing an idea we had, where Village of the Giants meets the famous
#distractedboyfriend
meme.
We are very pleased with the final results, and the art looks like it could even have come from a comic book cover for VOTG.
Attention filmmakers. If you want to see another mid-20th century film about giants that could use a makeover to be something really incredible, come check out our site and be…inspired (and a little disturbed by our tireless research!).
Tim Burton and "Gone Girl" author Gillian Flynn are remaking “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” for Warner Bros.
Burton, who is currently working with the studio on "Beetlejuice 2," is directing the film from a script by Flynn.
We were toying with that idea of “Village of the Giants meets 80’s Spring Break” idea, and did a little research. This picture was quite intriguing, and reminded us of the image vibe when the giants arrive at the park. Definitely inspiring.
Out of curiosity, decided to see if a certain film was i. This multi-part documentary-series.
And in episode three when they talk a little about H.G. Wells… :)
It’s been awhile since we put up an informative post/thread, so today we’re gonna tackle something no one probably ever thinks about: what inspired the Unofficial Fanpage of Village of the Giants in the first place. (Screenshot of the original opening page image)
This is something that just happened by accident.
In trying to grab screenshots, we swear we found a scene that matches up with poses in one of the keybook stills.
Tisha and Joy's poses feel like we found this scene at two angles. What do you think?
Thought we'd share the recent Facebook cover picture we threw together tonight in a few hours.
We used a picture of our visit to Bronson Canyon in February 2020, and made it look like the giants had set up a brand-new directional billboard, leading towards Hainesville.
@Porsche962_C
In truth, that is a Faceapp altered image I did. The original she’s emoting the confused/scared feel of the moment.
Supposedly the line she gives to Fred is meant to be tearful (“Fred…Fred, what have we done!?”).
We just saw news that Director/producer/writer/effects-man
#BertIGordon
passed away today, at the age of 100.
We were able to meet him in 2007 (we took this pic then), and he even mentioned us in his autobiography.
Farewell, Mr BiG...and thank you.
Playing around with business card ideas again.
Here's a general layout/logo idea we've had in mind for a few weeks now.
Still trying to figure out what else to put in the white space.
Looking around for
#VillageoftheGiants
info online, we were shocked to see that a
#gizmoplex
event
@MST3K
had for November 1st, “borrowed” from a Photoshopped piece we did some time ago (the dangling legs of the CG figure tipped us off)!
Browsing through a newspaper archive, we were shocked to find this article in the Memphis Press-Scimitar, where
#VickiLondon
(aka Georgette) was interviewed about her upcoming role in
#villageofthegiants
(though the article calls it, “Valley of the Giants?”).
The review of the upcoming Blu-Ray has some of our first images of the films restoration and in widescreen! Check out the difference between the 2001 cropped DVD release, and the new transfer.
Bert I. Gordon's VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS sits at the crossroads of the juvenile delinquent, beach party, hot rod, and sci-fi exploitation genres to serve up a delightful, candy-coated mid-sixties confection!
Full Review:
It does feel that if not for this scene featuring Elsa (Gail Gerber) in
#VillageoftheGiants
, our curiosity over what the whole film contained, might not have been piqued.
I was wondering if anyone was obsessed with watching this movie every time it aired?
Who remembers this classic?
Village of the Giants, 1965
Beau (Brummels) Bridges and Ronny Howard 🤣🍿
A remake would cool.
But I think it should be taken more seriously as a sci-fi thriller.
@FrankConniff
@MST3K
As the unofficial fanpage for Village of the Giants, we confirm that all the Willow talk took place in Experiment 523.
Given Ron Howard was in that film, that brought up all the tall about the film.
We even included a reference to the riff here:
@nytimesarts
We were surprised he did make it to 100. His film
#VillageoftheGiants
led to us creating our fansite almost 20 years ago, let alone he also mentioned our site in his autobiography.
We thought we were done with updates...but after watching the Blu-Ray release, we got a real jones for brining back the Aspect Ratio comparison information under the Home Video section.
Here's a little previous regarding what we've found so far regarding size results.
Decided to try out the
#NewProfilePic
app on some screenshots from
#villageofthegiants
.
One of the more successful results was this image of Vicki London from later in the film.
A few years ago, we commissioned a person to do some body work for an alternate image. This was to accompany a fanfiction/alternate-ending story line where the giants win and...things don’t turn out so well for Mike.
After seeing
#villageofthegiants
advertising, we were often miffed that this poster for the 80’s film
#springbreak
never lived up to the advertising material.
Anyone else get that feeling?
We added a new link on our fanfiction section, talking about Drake C Letcher's "Village of the Giantesses" comic from 1999.
You can also find some newly-commissioned art on that page, from the artist who worked on the comic 25 years ago.
After a few days of revision and rewriting, we finally have posted up our alternate-ending fanfiction for Village of the Giants, titled: "Goodbye Mike."
You can click into it from the new banner on our main page (and check out our updated site logo):
Happy 83rd Birthday to our favorite Big Blonde,
#JoyHarmon
!
We also thought we'd toot our own horn and show a creative idea we got last night, to update the what-if lunchbox image on our merchandise section. We think this one looks fab.
In a few days, part of our sites history will fade out of our grasp. With the acquisition of the URL , we have decided to not renew usage of .
Please make the necessary arrangements to keep up-to-date with us.
Today, we had a creative itch to scratch, and finally redid the graphic header on the
#MST3K
section of our Village of the Giants fanpage.
We also added in some riffs from the Satellite of Love crew about the manhandling by the giant teenagers.
More playing around with page tints and textures (the original script pages have a texture we tried to emulate.
We think these are pretty much going to be the final colors for the regular, and rewrite pages.
We are debating if we should add faux three-ring punch-holes.
A screencap of our idea if
#Barbie
dolls had been made for each of the girls in the film.
Note: our Photoshop work was so good, the late Gail Gerber thought these were real images.
Well, we did it.
We finished up our second fanfiction based on
#villageofthegiants
, and now that we have two stories, have officially created a
#fanfiction
page on the site.
Come on over and read on how we've improved on parts of Bert I Gordon's film.
Shame on us for missing what would have been Gail Gerber’s 85th Birthday, this past October 4th.
Happy belated birthday, Gail!
We decided to include a pic of her, in a rather unconventional keybook still for
#villageofthegiants
.
