@mrseleanorohara @sh_abbers This sounds like you live not too far from me π had a very similar dilemma but of the West Midlands, Manchester and Mersey, youβd be commuting far less in Mersey from one end of the deanery to the other compared to the other two!

Got shown this data today, just 5% of black/mixed black British applicants to anaesthetics received offers. Compared to approx 50% of white applicants. Are black applicants really 10x worse than their white counterparts? make of it what you will⦠#MedTwitter

@ZuFutureSurgeon The competition rations have increased significantly since 2018-2022 which is why what Iβm saying now is more relevant than it may have been then when competition ratios were less

@ZuFutureSurgeon We will have to agree to disagree, I do believe the first round of applications should be limited to home graduates then can be advertised to IMGs in round 2

@ZuFutureSurgeon Looked into many developed countries as have considered emigrating myself. Looking at specialities like Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine in particular. The higher acceptance rate into less competitive specialities skews the data and isnβt representative of all specialities

@its_chantae If you apply to a specialty in round 2 your score from round 1 gets carried over as long as it was >186 on each paper without the option to retry it to aim for a higher score
