Last weekend before polling day. Really great day out campaigning in
#Whetstone
. Proud to represent this amazing community, and hoping to do it again for another 4 years.

Well, last night I didn’t get the result I’d hoped for. We fought hard but Whetstone has spoken. Huge congratulations to
@vellstells
and
@ellarachelrose
on their victory. It was an honour to represent Oakleigh Ward for the last 4 years. Now, time for some rest.
Delighted and honoured to be selected tonight by
@ChippingTories
to stand again in the new Whetstone ward in the 2022 local elections. Looking forward to the campaign to keep Barnet blue!

Very sad to hear tonight that my predecessor in Oakleigh Ward, Brian Salinger, passed away today. Brian was a long-serving, dedicated Councillor for Oakleigh and a brilliant Mayor of Barnet. My deepest condolences to Kate and the family at this very sad time.
@BarnetTories
We can announce the winner of the by-election for a new Councillor in the East Barnet ward of Barnet as Nicole Alison Richer of the Conservatives.
We previously announced the result of the by-election for a new Councillor in the Edgware ward:
Not a word of condemnation of Hamas and its indiscriminate murder of civilians in Israel today. I am grateful every day that you were so comprehensively defeated in 2019.
The unfolding events in Israel and Palestine are deeply alarming.
We need an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation.
And we need a route out of this tragic cycle of violence: ending the occupation is the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace.
Absolutely horrific and tragic news that Sir David Amess MP has been murdered - while simply doing his duty as a constituency MP. He didn’t deserve this. Thoughts with his family and staff at this awful time. RIP
Was just
@Everymancinema
in Barnet watching Bond. We had to evacuate when someone in the theatre began shouting at other customers and said he had a gun. Police called. No one hurt thankfully. Just one (intoxicated) selfish individual.
Looking forward to campaigning to get Nicole elected to Barnet Council! She will be a strong, dedicated advocate for everyone in East Barnet.

Incredibly sad to hear about the passing of the Duke of Edinburgh. He was a great public servant and a huge presence in British life. Most importantly he was a loving and dedicated husband to HM The Queen. RIP Prince Philip.
It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.
Absolutely loved

- we couldn’t help it and binge-watched the whole thing. A great portrayal of life for LGBT people in the 80s, and the tragedy of AIDS. The last episode was the best IMHO, with incredible acting.

Pleased that

have made four arrests following vile antisemitic incitement from car flying pro-Palestinian flags earlier today. Thank you everyone who reported it to us, we worked closely with

and hope it brings some comfort at this difficult time
Invading a motorway is reckless & puts lives at risk. I asked National Highways to seek an injunction against M25 protestors which a judge granted last night. Effective later today, activists will face contempt of court with possible imprisonment if they flout.
This organisation is an embarrassment. Apparently it’s the West and NATO that are engaging in ‘needless provocation’. Nothing to do with the 100,000 troops Russia has amassed on the border with Ukraine.
This policy is utterly absurd. Banning supermarkets from selling certain goods as an act of solidarity with other businesses that have been forced to close doesn’t help those businesses because they are...you know...closed.
"I won't need - I don't think - to buy clothing"
In response to the non-essential items ban,

Really welcome news that the Govt has given
@BarnetCouncil
nearly £1M to support vulnerable children and families with food and supplies this winter.
@BarnetTories
Got to say I found this quite telling. You can just see the sneering looks on their faces...at the sight of a Union Flag in the office of a Minister in the British Govt. Shock horror!
BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt has caused controversy after mocking MP Robert Jenrick's Union flag.
"I think your flag is not up to standard size government interview. I think it’s just a little bit small. But that’s your department really".
I understand that all 11 Labour MPs who signed the Stop The War statement (which criticised Nato) have been written to by the Shadow Chief Whip and asked to withdraw their signatures.
Sounds like if they refuse to do so, they will all lose the whip.
Although we can’t gather physically as we normally would, let’s still take a moment to remember all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

@ArjunMittra
The proposals include the installation of a brand new multi-use games area for children! Which will be higher quality and safer than what’s there now. Yes, those awful wicked Tories!
This is an outrageous and anti-Semitic pile of garbage. I hope
@BarnetLabour
will take swift action against any Labour members that may have been involved in this.
@BarnetTories
This really is incredible, even by his standards. A 60 second clip intended to calm things down, that spends the first 40 seconds repeating his bogus claims about election fraud...and then only at the end saying ‘go home’.
The EU is losing the plot now. The Treaty has only been in place a month! And Art 16 is intended to address problems caused by the Protocol, not a procurement screw up by the European Commission.
This is hugely welcome, and will provide much needed support to individuals and businesses in Tier 2 areas like Barnet. I would encourage everyone to look at the support available.
The government has today announced it will be increasing support through the existing business grant and income support schemes, ensuring livelihoods and jobs across the UK continue to be protected in the difficult months ahead.

This is barking mad. So the aim of Govt policy should be…recession? How is that going to generate the necessary investment in the technology that will deliver Net Zero??
Starmer on
@bbcr4today
wants to fight the next election on economic growth. 👀
The mirage of perpetual growth is the problem - to meet net zero targets we need to create a fair, healthy and resilient economy, and that means challenging perpetual growth on a finite planet.
This is nonsense. The delay to the second dose massively increases the number of people we can vaccinate in Jan/Feb with first doses...and thus bring the pandemic to an end sooner.
Dangerous:
The government’s decisions to
• Delay the second doses of the vaccine
• Mix and match the different brands giving you a different one for your second dose
Are dangerously anti-science & opposite of medical advice
Congratulations to
@RishiSunak
- the new Leader of the Conservative Party and our next Prime Minister. Absolutely the right choice and we can now focus again on delivering for the UK.

48,165 vaccinations in 🏴 yesterday! Another record high. 99% (!) of older care home residents now vaccinated with first dose. And 92%+ of over 80s - extraordinary uptake. Teams now working through 70-79 yr olds & those clinically vulnerable, & starting on over 65s. 🙏 to all!

Interesting article...except that the Council’s apparent transport lead ‘Cllr Colin Aarons’ does not exist. Oh, and
@flxby93
represents East Barnet, not High Barnet. Other than that...
Truly devastated to hear that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away. She was a devoted public servant who always put duty and country first. There will never be another one like her. Thank you Ma’am. God Save The Queen.
The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.
Sigh. Not surprising but deeply depressing. If a President can’t be convicted for inciting insurrection in an attempt to overturn a democratic election...when can he be??
NEW: The US Senate has voted to acquit Donald Trump, for the second time.
A clear majority voted that the former President was guilty, 57-43.
But the effort was 10 short. 7 Republican senators voted to convict.
Might be worth pointing out to the First Minister that Scotland has been on the UN Security Council sits its creation in 1945, as the UK has a permanent seat.

Very encouraging news from
@UniofOxford
and
@AstraZeneca
on their
#COVID19
vaccine. Let’s hope it can be rolled out ASAP in the UK and across the world.
Today marks an important milestone in the fight against
#COVID19
. Interim data show the
#OxfordVaccine
is 70.4% effective, & tests on two dose regimens show that it could be 90%, moving us one step closer to supplying it at low cost around the world>>
The actions of some European countries this week have been very damaging to the fight against COVID-19. The Oxford/AZ vaccine is safe and effective...and when its my turn I will take it without hesitation.
🌍Grim news-seems actions of European authorities may have spread damaged confidence in the AstraZeneca vaccine to developing countries
Reports of people in Africa questioning the AZ jab following this week’s row
Extremely damaging-as for many poorer countries its AZ or nothing

Great to see concrete proposals to ban the vile practice of gay ‘conversion therapy’. It causes serious harm to vulnerable people and I look forward to seeing this become law next year.
🧵THREAD: Today the government finally publishes detailed plans to ban conversion therapy, three years after
@itvnews
first exposed the practice in the UK.
BUT a major loophole will allow conversion therapy to continue where an individual consents.
