Confused Democrat who works with numbers. Failed musician. A little chaotic, to be honest.

@ajlamesa Which, let me be clear, is enough reason for it to continue to exist. Probably.

@ranboy @ajlamesa They're taxpayers too, so you'd be wrong there. What do you do? Because I'm reasonably convinced I don't care about your job and will delight in its elimination.

@cj_ohio @kittypurrzog They could mute instead of block, maybe. I understand the need to just reduce the noise though. Kind of sad, because it does create a silo and can unintentionally remove good-faith "opposition" (for lack of a better term) from the conversation.

@ocmom520 @benryanwriter And at less-prestigious schools that can't negotiate a higher percentage, school administration will make up the discrepancy by, eg, charging researchers more for the use of school facilities. Leading to less research output from lower-tier schools.

@taipan168 but in my stupid big Tiguan I feel much more secure. Idk, I think there's more that goes into the US preference for big cars than just American machismo or whatever. Especially for frequent freeway drivers.

@taipan168 And it's kind of terrifying driving a small car (eg Mk 6 Golf) in the midst of herds of trucks at freeway speeds. It feels much safer to be in a larger vehicle of the type Americans are perpetually lambasted for. So I was wondering if the car-truck ratio was similar in AU
