@stevemagness 3/ when it comes to hockey. 12 months of hockey is TOO much. Too many parents are living vicariously through their kid, pushing them to be the "next" one...hence burnout. Counterproductive to raising good citizens. Thanks for the thread! I hope the right people read it!

@stevemagness 2/ we always told our kids, even with me coaching them that our job was to sign the cheques + get them to practice/games. It had to be fun + when it wasn't, it was time to move into the next thing. Our son always hit a wall in hockey season. In Canada, we are too intense

@stevemagness 1/ Great thread Steve. I taught/coached in schools for over 31+ years. More importantly, I also coached my kids in community sports. I want to believe I embraced much of what you state. However, I witnessed the WORST of bad parental behavior in schools + community.

@HockeyWithDevin I have a good friend who is a scout. Upon congratulating him following one of their drafts, he graciously thanked me but said, " let's revisit this in 4-5 years". These are teenagers when drafted, a LOT of things change and develop outside of the physical component.
