The intricacies of 1-2 yard movements by the best in the game at it. During the build up it’s slow & arrival movements to gain space. In and around the box, late & explosive 7:1 movements gain the minute space needed. The timing of the movements are the key to efficiency.
Van Persie highlighting the importance of 7:1 movements and varying your runs constantly to be unpredictable & unbalance defensive organisation. Great learning moment for him that comes from a desire to improve and become a better version of yourself
Cruyff breaks this down so simply, which he did with everything. The tactical complexities needed to achieve defending this way though are much more complex. He was so far ahead of his time.
So many players,at all levels,would benefit from a high level focus on improving their ability to be unpredictable receiving pressure behind. The element of disguise to shift the ball off the line if came from-first time-as late as possible-makes you incredibly press resistant.
1-If Jorginho opens up in the “traditionally coached” way (pivoting off the standing foot) he doesn’t play forward. By killing the ball dead & front foot “jumps”back away from the ball, it creates the space.2- TIMING of Mount’s movement to become the free player off the shoulder
The space between FB/CB is being consistently targeted by the best teams. There are various ways of utilising that vertical run: (1) late and explosive from the outside (2) Combining 2v1 to get the FB ball watching (3) Occupying that space off the shoulders. Timing is key for all
Timing of movement is more important than positioning.The timing of the CM dropping outside CB line to become the free player causes winger issues as they feel responsible for the CB/FB. Modric & Kroos superb at making opponents defend a 30x80 space rather than a 25 yard triangle

So excited for the season after a relentless few weeks of planning/recruiting.One thing is for sure, we’ll have a team that fans will love watching.Each player desperate to wear the shirt. Winning the league is the only focus. This group & every player in it will represent us all
To maximise development in 1v1 moments it should include various types of realistic elements. Defending a target behind is limiting. Defender position changes in milliseconds & exercises need to replicate this: movement prior,aerial,multiple exit points & teammate to use disguise
Premier League players receive the ball, on average, once every seven movements they make. 7:1 movement practices are vital in developing players who can dominate their opponent without the ball to become the free player.The movements are identity and position specific. Example:
After posting the last video of Van Persie I received many messages about 7:1 movement and the principles of it. I have written a short article on it with videos accompanying
‼️For the last 12 months I have been creating a YouTube series which will launch soon! The content covers dozens of areas with a full video breakdown on each one. Here is a quick preview:
Modern game demands the skillset of playing in 360degrees & being press resistant until a solution arrives. To outplay 1v1 you must first move them to the side-process begins with mastering pressure behind agility drags & cuts. Bergkamp looks “natural” here but it’s years of work
7 wins in 7 and the group unbeaten in 18 since they came together. Of the 22 man squad, 12 were playing this level or below last year, 4 coming back from long term injuries, 6 from above so only 3 had played together. We have so much to improve on collectively and individually

The Second Half Shakers brought this game to life after Bryan Ly came on - it was all Bury, and two peaches from Alex Cherera and Rustam Stepans brought the points home for us!

Session example of individual development being the focus during a collective session; 7:1 movements, 1v1 work (all five scenarios) & should be adapted around the identities of players
⌚️97’ ⚪️ Shakers 3 🆚 1 Chadderton 🔴
The unbeaten run continues as the whistle goes and The Shakers run out 3-1 winners in what was an outstanding performance against a strong Chadderton side here at Gigg Lane.

The ability to outplay opponents in 1v1 situations through 360 degrees comes from months and years of specific practice.The game now demands players who can operate in the jungle.Players shouldnt be afraid of dropping the ego: invest in themselves from scratch. No age is too late

When the ball is moved wide for the 1v1 a key space to target with a vertical run is between CB & FB instead of support & recirculate. Vs low block, you go through or around. It should be principle based & not positional;FB wide AM/winger makes the run,winger wide FB underrun etc
Consideration for the focus on “playing out” from GK: teams average 4 goal kicks per half compared to 25-40 actions where CB’s build without the GK closer to half line. “Building out” exercises should have a larger emphasis on creating the free player higher up; with even numbers
Strikers need to isolate 1v1 situations, both with & without the ball, as they’re often underloaded 1v2. 7:1 movements: one in three in behind to stay unpredictable. The trigger is eye contact; as soon as there is no pressure on the ball: double movements to dominate your 1v1
Champions!!! 95 goals in a season, back to back promotions & FA Vase at Wembley. What a special group. “The records are always there but people remember the way you did it” 💙💙
This group is right at the beginning of their journey together; so much improvement to come individually & collectively. Behind the scenes they are working so hard to create a way of playing that connects the fans & that inspires the young kids. 🔵⚪️

Three building not wide enough to break the line of their front two & tempo too slow to break it.Too many players to build means no free player to break higher lines.Their CBs narrowed 2v1 & FBs went tight due to no forward runs from midfielders or FB underlaps.Kane too isolated
Dominate your opponent without the ball: late & explosive in behind & begin your movement when your teammate’s head is up. For last line movements,go across the line & keep your shoulders facing the goal.Defenders have to turn & accelerate whilst you already have forward momentum
The detail in who fulfils each role within this attacking balance is so important: who and why determines both how you build and how you counter press. The 2-3 or 3-2 can be interchangeable and flexible in every system if trained right.
Slide from webinar presentation on 1v1 development breaking down Champions League situations (2020) into percentages. The aim was to design individual identity exercises around realistic pressure.
Unfortunately my old Twitter account was hacked and password changed so it’s lost permanently. Lots of coaches and colleagues contacted me through here so any retweets to reconnect would be appreciated. Thanks.

His function in the midfield unit is as the spider in the web (e.g. Busquets) objective metrics are based on that profile. The metrics that Liverpool track, he is extremely high scoring on. Watch how influential he is next season when Liverpool have their full side available.

Thanks Chris. Planning started the day after the final, been hectic but we have some special talent coming in. We know exactly what we need and fans will love watching this next season.
@buryfcofficial
Apologies we has to cut out the large section around the team and specifics but clearly we couldn’t have such information out publicly.
@MikeMcGarvey5
Nailed it. Pre season to lay foundations down properly, training facilities to get the work done which will be our best signing & a surface for consistency. Will be unrecognisable from last season.
@SamMcGuire90
The concern is his 1v1 defending so limit his exposure to it.Sit with 3 behind in balance with a profile on that side who can defend wide spaces as cover;this allows him to drift in inside right areas for his distribution.Enhance your strengths, limit exposure of your weaknesses

@RossendaleWhit1
@davidmcnabb82
It’s important in moments like this to be objective and not emotional. If we weren’t creating it would be a huge concern, ie Saturday. We’ve consistently put people in front of the GK yesterday and missed enough chances to win 5 games.
@RossendaleWhit1
@davidmcnabb82
The fans should be emotional, we let them down. I was referring to our job which is to be objective in how we win games. We’ll put it right.
@Ben_Hinch10

He’s our spider in the web, connects the whole game. To quote Del Bosque “You watch the game, you don't see Busquets. You watch Busquets, you see the whole game.”
