BAYC (main collection) is just over 1,000,000 ETH.
That's ~6% of BAYC's total volume. Vast majority of people are still not involved in Japanese NFTs yet, but could change soon with big players entering.

With regards to the recent anime PFP trend, I am fairly certain that these projects originated from Western countries (or Westerners living in Asia). That said, I am seeing anime NFTs starting to come out from Asia. There is massive market potential, tapping in Asia will be key.

In terms of NFT, many Japanese purchase because they like the art or the creator and want to show their support, rather than as a way to grow their assets. There is less listing and more diamond hands. This is the biggest difference between Japanese and international NFT buyers.
