SCOOBY-DOO ZOMBIE ISLAND is like the Shakespeare folio of kids' horror cartoons.
It contains everything that came before it, and everything that came after is indebted to it.

Frank Gehry is 94 years old!! Why would anyone expect anyone to know who he is unless they're really, really into architecture
Being in the horror community is a breath of fresh air amidst all the prudishness unfolding in our society, so when I see the prudes infiltrate and try to argue sex has no place in horror I get mad bc it feels like I'm breathing polluted air! Sex is a major part of life, people!
It makes me sad when I see people complain about the lack of original ideas in horror when all they're watching are big budget movies with theatrical wide release.
There are thousands of independent filmmakers putting out work every day. Watch their movies and talk about them.

Here are the horror movies I've watched for the first time since August 1!

Laura Mulvey's essay changed my whole perspective on understanding the act of viewing a film. Biller's own work beautifully channels Mulvey in many ways.
I just realized that most people are not familiar with feminist film theory, which is why they think I'm crazy for talking about cinema for women. Laura Mulvey's famous essay "Visual Pleasure for Women in Narrative Cinema" informed my tweet, as has my own film practice. ♥️
Well, Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007) did its job of making me feel that all the bleakness of the world can never be surmounted, so now I ask the
#HorrorFam
:
Can you give me horror comedy recs to bring me back into the light!
Fun Fact!
"CRITTERS 2: THE MAIN COURSE is an alternative title for this Mick Garris gem.
The original and more suitable title is THE GREATEST FILM IN HORROR HISTORY AS WELL AS THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY (1988)."
- B. Wolf's Horror History Reexamined: The Case for Krites.
100 Days of not a single drop of alcohol!
Go me!
Now, if I could get that pesky full moon under control, I could go a full 30 days without a single drop of blood!
I finally watched Black Christmas (06)!
I thought it was loads of fun, totally ballsy, and entertaining as hell. Lots of great kills and it embraces its own absurdity to great effect. Miles better than 2019. I really enjoyed it.
#HorrorFam
Poor Things was fantastic!! Hilarious and beautiful, goofy and profound.
Brilliant acting by everyone but Emma Stone just absolutely killed it. Love Ruffalo and Dafoe.
God what an absolute joy! Yorgos Lanthimos bravo, bravo.

ONE CUT OF THE DEAD (2019)
I've seen this before on The Last Drive In, but I was trashed beyond belief that night so I only remember the opening scene.
Another benefit of teetotaling now: I can actually remember what I watched the night before!
Here is my thread for the
#Horror365Challenge
!!
Not a requirement, but I'm doing all first-watches for this challenge.
I am starting with UNSEEN (2023) for
#1
(recommendations welcome any time for future entries)
COCAIN BEAR (2023) was totally absurd and loads of fun!! I LOVED Margo Martindale, Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Ray Liotta!
I read that Liotta was happy with his role in the film, and I'm glad he got to go out having a blast.
Day 122 booze-free! 1/3 of a year!
Day 74 cigarette-free!
The deeper I go, the more spaced out these announcements will become, but I've been using them as milestones to motivate myself.
We don't know how old our family cat Grizzy was exactly, but she showed up at our house when I was 14.
Now I'm 34, and today Grizzy passed away while bouncing around in the backyard, which is what she'd do around dinner time.
We'll miss you, Grizzy! Thx for the love
When I was drinking too much and smoking cigs, I eventually started developing gum issues, so my gums would bleed even though I've always kept good care of my teeth. Since I stopped drinking and smoking, my gums haven't bled at all. That's a huge relief.

,
What movie has your favorite sex/nudity scene in a horror film?
Mine: American Psycho
No doubt, it's Patrick Bateman's hooker scene. I love the build up, how narcissistic Bateman is, it's funny and uncomfortable & ❤️ the 80's music!

I've done 264 first-watches this year, and I wanted to make it an even 265 before the year ended.
So I present my final first-watch of 2023!

COCAINE BEAR (2022)
Well,
#ThanksgivingMovie
is exactly what you'd expect, maybe a little tamer than you'd hope for from Eli Roth. The characters are completely nondescript, which is okay because it's all about the kills, and a few of those are really entertaining.
What movies are you thankful for?
Today I'm grateful for:
Re-Animator - my
#1
fav
The Exorcist - for starting my obsession w horror
Critters - for giving us Krites!
Ginger Snaps - best wolf movie!
MY MOM'S A WEREWOLF (1989) is completely bombastic and full of lighthearted humor. Just the thing to take the edge off after Poughkeepsie Tapes yesterday! And it treats horror fans with so much love!
John Saxon and Susan Blakely are so delightful in this.
What an emotionally exhausting day. But the
#ThanksgivingMovie
has me thinking what I'm thankful for. I'm very thankful for the wonderful
#HorrorCommunity
.
You've welcomed me with open arms and created space where we can feel free to be the weirdos we are. I'm forever grateful.
The Dentist is one of my reliable stand-bys when I need a quick Yuzna fix, and Corbin Bernsen delivers one of the most psychotic performances ever. Both movies are a total blast!
Well, I fucked my lower back up, so it’s horror movies, heating pad, weed and ibuprofen for me all day. Getting old sucks! 🤬
Anyway, I’m

LAMB (2022)
Excited to finally check this one out! I am a big fan of Noomi Rapace, and I'm already loving all the moody shots of big sheep standing around!
I could watch an entire movie of just that, actually.
Hi
#HorrorFam
!
Today I wanted to do something a little different for
#FF
so I decided to highlight two people whose posts make me laugh out loud on a regular basis!
They both have ways w words that'll make you smile. Plus they like spooky stuff!

@finalgirl_kiddo
Timeline cleanse. If you see this, post dog.
Sorry, it’s been quiet here the last few days - it’s just been been a busy week and will be until Sunday (we are celebrating our 15th anniversary tomorrow and my wife’s 50th is Saturday, so a lot of planning involved)
@KillerCritics
He doesn't get enough credit for nothin! There was one year when he was in like 3 movies nominated for Best Picture, and no one realized he was the common thread lol. One of the most recognizable and beloved faces/voices in entertainment and one of the most versatile as well!
I know it's hard for a lot of people this time of year, and as someone who used the holidays as yet another excuse to binge drink for 15 years and just got through his first Xmas sober, I just wanna say:
You can do this. And if you feel like you can't I'm always here to talk!!
Tomorrow!!! Join us for a live watch party of the NEW Hell House LLC Origins at 9pm ET on
@Shudder
! It's gonna be a big one! We're going to use
#HellHouseParty
as the hashtag to follow all the posts! See you then!!
McKamey Manor is not a haunt. I highly recommend checking out Reckless Ben's expose on the piece of trash that is Russ McKamey. Classic malignant narcissist who is also a dangerous sadist.

Rewatching Sissy (2022) on Shudder and it’s just as captivating and hilarious as the first time I watched it. A slasher with queer characters, fun kills and a dark commentary on the effects of social media consumption. A great film that encapsulates our current era/generation.
SALTBURN (2023) is one of my favorites of the year! Full of stellar individual performances, the cast has chemistry to die for!
It's psychological thriller elements work so well, and it's deeply funny and moving in a lot of ways. Check this one out!
#Saltburn
What is something you hope to do this year
#HorrorFam
, big or small?
One of my goals is to make my first podcast appearance, which may be happening soon. Stay tuned!
So you wanna make a "Year End" movie list? Some tips:
Do it!
And include any movie you want to include whether or not you've seen every movie ever made.
So you wanna make a “Year End” movie list? Some tips:
1.) Haven’t seen EVERY movie released that year? It’s not a “best of” list, it’s your favorites
2.) Don’t post your own movies. It’s tacky
3.) “Worst of” lists aren’t helpful criticism. Don’t do them. Lift up movies instead
What a way to close out a trilogy that's never afraid to reinvent itself! It's rare to see a fully realized character arc, especially in the realm of killer inanimate objects, but here we are. I know this is the final chapter, but I want CarousHELL in Space!
I really enjoyed
#ItsAWonderfulKnife
It's a really fun Slasher/Comedy. It has some good bloody kills, the characters are great & it makes good use of it's running time. I kept trying to figure out who Justin Long's characters voice was reminisent of..He sounds just like Dustin
Over in Facebook land, when I post about my job search struggles, it's radio silence. But when I post a thirst trap, I get flooded with creepy messages from "friends" who never talk to me. Here, I find lots of support in both scenarios from ppl I never met! Thank you! 🖤
I see a lot of love for HELL FEST (2018) around the
#Horrorfam
lately, which is awesome!
Has anyone seen the other "fest" movie that came out the same year? I'm talking about BLOOD FEST (2018)! A group of friends go to a horror film festival and end up in a real horror movie.
Get ye to Suitable Flesh!
I adored this. Grotesque and horny, funny and bloody. All the things that make life great!
Heather Graham and Barbara Crampton are a match made in heaven on screen, and Bruce Davison is as good as it gets.
Definitely going into my Top 10 of 2023.
It's fitting that I just did a

SUITABLE FLESH (2023).
Barbara Crampton returns to Miskatonic! I'm excited.
3 weeks sober. Haven't gone this long in 3 years. Actually enjoying it this time and not replacing it with other bad habits. Weird not being drunk on weekends but now my weekends are filled w things I actually enjoy that I didn't do before because I was hungover.
I'm taking big swings this year since I'm approaching my mid 30s and the things I wanna do w my life have finally become clear.
I credit the

for giving me the confidence and the realization that I can put my whole heart into pursuing my dreams. Excited for this year!
