With all the talk at awards shows about keeping production in LA it begins to make one wonder if they are moving deck chairs around on the Titanic as it takes gobs and gobs of water. You do not need to be anywhere near California to tell your stories, the computer chip has taken care of that. It’s the true democratization of making movies and those advocating for staying in LA sound like the people they claim to loathe, close minded and fearful of others. What’s going on is they have lost control and have reduced power, make your film anywhere and do it on your terms, the studios and streamers are really now just banks and marketing machines. There remain hyper talented people in LA in all capacities but mostly I see it in post production services, especially sound and finishing. Anyone advocating to keep production in LA is making money off it staying there and trying to retain an analog era gone by, ignore and create where you are, the product will be better.
