You guys gave some killer suggestions for this little bug-board! I have a super long list I'm slowly chiseling away at but feel free to keep the suggestions coming and making that list longer~ 😅🐛🪲🐞
#pixelart
Some moths and butterflies by popular demand! Loving all the new colors.
Keep hitting me with your favorites, been discovering so many new bugs!
#pixelart
(Also if anybody has any reference for the Picasso Moth larva, I couldn't find them ANYWHERE 🫥)
Yo okay wait a minute, that was brisk! Had a slew of questions I was about to ask and decided I'd just jump in and see what I could do. Spat this out in a few hours... Granted my texture is microscopic but yeah, worked well with some fun shaders and animation!

@Reese571
It's all a Blender rig I built! The head is separated into 3 parts (Back w/ ears, eyes, and mouth) and the rig controls which texture to display.
@SkullTome
Thank ya thank ya! I've yet to take the full dive into Unity but the system I came up with to rig it in Blender is derived from this lovely video:
Shows off 3 different systems that might maybe be helpful? 🤞
@IkariBunbun
Yup! Normal maps are the secret there, makes the rig 2x as complicated but well worth it for the effect. Made all of the face textures, plopped them into blender, then made 3D pieces to bake normals out to. Here's what one of them looks like:
Got a mild bout of tendonitis in the thumb for 2 weeks and then had to do a heavy move 😭Haven't touched anything art in so long. Still battling some heat exhaustion/overexertion sick but hopefully I can post some more cool stuff soon.
In the meantime enjoy this shader WIP

@elka_
Thank you thank you! 😂Once I get this lil gal finished I've been considering trying to make a custom animal type or seeing about holding some raffle to get somebody's pet made into a villager. Not 100% sure yet 🤷♂️
Custom animal crossing villager based off of a friend's V-Tuber model! Made the model and sweater from scratch. Still a WIP, have yet to rig and animate it 👀

It's a big ol' chain of Greater Than math nodes with a single Add node with a .001 in front. That way if the driver value returns a 1, it becomes 1.001 and turns on the texture the "Greater Than 1" node plugs into. 😄
@Kent2D
This video is what got me started on the process, mine just became an extremely complicated version because it accounts for Normal maps (and due to the light up eyes, alpha maps for the emission shaders 👀)
Can't believe I hit 500 followers, and today's my birthday! :D
(Also thanks to my partner for animating this, I drew it and they wanted to make him jump lol)

@SarahBoevingArt
Thank you so much! ^^ They're a-comin'! Currently have a Hercules beetle in the pot but I think I'll take a break from the bigger bois once he's done to work on some of the fluttery folks🦋
Animation train!
Tagging all animators & artists who see it to share some of your fire 🔥
Also can't take all the credit on the third video there, I just did the animations for the little jumpin' gooey guy~
Programs were Blender, Aseprite, & Quill!
Animation train!
I still feel like I haven't really explored my potential in animation, but I really want to tackle a big project at some point ..
Tagging all animators who see this o7
@lagojos
@IkariBunbun
Once I had my flat diffuse textures, I mapped them to a square and modeled some geometry for the sunken mouth, bulging eyelids, etc. Then I just baked the normals to the square and hooked them into the drivers that select which texture to use!
@vested
Ooooh fun process! I recently got in the swing of Blender and I keep feeling like modelling my own reference is cheating even though it's a skill to model things all on its own so like...??? Looks stellar!! 🔥
@rho_create
Thanks for doin' this!❤️I've been really struggling with working hard on things only for them to completely bomb on social media haha 😅
This is an old VR painting/animation I started and never finished. Got most of the way there but just never pushed myself to wrap it up.
@Magician_Core
So this was 3D modeled, textured, rigged, animated, custom normal mapped, the whole 9 yards all from scratch. So, technically yes, you can learn to do that stuff, but no it's not as simple as a character designer in a game 🫤
@PixelArtJourney
I always give a "Hey do you want critique/feedback or nah" before ever sharing anything of the sort with somebody because sometimes I know that shit isn't warranted. Be it a game, art piece, cooking, you name it. Like you said, some people just want to do it for fun. You're valid
Learning all the intricacies of 3D modelling, rigging, texturing, etc makes me feel like an idiot for when I was back in math classes going "Who uses trig? I wanna do art and animation, this is rocket science crap."
@panithan_pnt
@DanFessler
Damn that's crazy cool, makes me wanna try and take something to a full polish version rather than my little stress test doodle Wii I did haha
@artofsully
Oooooooh I love I love!! As a baby rigger-person/3D guy I'm curious how you did those little pixels that stick out on the side of the coat towards the bottom? They're visible really only from the front and not the side.. Are they just squares slapped on or is there more at play?
@PixelArtJourney
I tend to not enjoy anime, although there's a few pieces of anime I enjoy (like Ghibli films or Spy x Family). Doesn't mean I won't open 38 tutorials dissecting anime stylization and techniques. Still some great nuggets of wisdom buried in things I don't have strong taste for!
@mirrutatep
@2020_Gaming
100% agreed, I feel like the step from 3 to 4 is essentially "I used my understanding of color and observation of reference to arrive here". I don't find it necessary to be told where every pixel should be placed, seeing the blocking, silhouette, and color use is plenty 🔥
@ndchristie
Okay I'm in LOVE with those colors, though
I feel like every time I try to 'draw' pixel art in Procreate I get so frustrated with my lack of precision control that I have with a mouse, how do you manage!? It's so.. hummanahummana 🔥
@UndergroundL0RD
Thank ya! I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to get a more accurate fan design to work before just making it a block of blue lol
